Abstract

This study aims to know the correlation between the results of making mind mapping with the learning outcomes of students. The population used in this study were all students of the Department of Chemistry Education UIN Ar-Raniry angkatan 2010 as many as 49 students, while a sample is a student of Chemical Education UIN Ar-Raniry unit I 2010 as many as 28 students. The data was collected through observation sheets, tests, questionnaires and rubrics of mind mapping. The data obtained were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation formula that results of the data processed using SPSS 16. The results showed an increase in activity and the students seemed enthusiastic students participating in learning activities. The percentage of active students at the first meeting at 73.86% and 93.18% in the second meeting. Student learning outcomes with the used of mind mapping in the classical methods achieve mastery of 89.29%. Percentage of students who gave positive responses to the use of mind mapping method reaches 82.15%. The results showed that: (1) There is a positive relationship between the results of making mind mapping the learning outcomes of students in the material paper chromatography. Abstract

This study reports the thematic progression of the EFL learner- produced texts in Acehnese context. The study employed qualitative method focusing on the content analysis. The content analysis technique was incorporated to analyse the corpora of 40 learner-produced texts. The findings of the study highlight both prevalent and problematic thematic progression patterns in the students’ texts. The EFL learners are inclined to use the constant theme pattern with less consistency of accuracy in longer paragraphs. With regard to the problematic patterns, the students tend to find difficulties in developing the ideas throughout the texts. This is shown through the emergence of many brand new themes and empty rhemes which result in incohesive and incoherent texts. The overall findings suggest that introducing the theme- rheme pattern concept to the students in English writing classes can be useful for improving the cohesion of the EFL students’ writings.

Abstract

The result of learning is coming from the skill someone has accepted after following learning activities. Students’ achievement can be seen from various domains they are cognitive, affective, psychomotoric. To know the skill that students have to achieve, we need to pay attention toward learning achievement as well as the quality of students’ changed behaviour. This article discusses about 6 teaching skills that teachers should own, namely: (1) skill to open the teaching, (2) skill to explain, (3) skill to question, (4) skill to emphasize, (5) skill to conduct various techniques in teaching learning, and (6) skill to close the teaching learning process.

Abstract

This study aims at describing how social and cultural motivations of students in choosing the English Department of IAIN Surakarta for their academic and career objectives, how the responses of students to the lecturers in teaching, and how the attitude of the students towards the course they follow.This is a survey research by distributing a questionnaire adapted from Attitude Motivation Test Battery (AMTB) and completed by interview. Data was analyzed by quantitative and descriptive manner. Based on the research results, students’ motivation majoring in English education IAIN Surakarta has shown good motivation. Of the four aspects in the analysis, it can be seen that the students have a good motivation. In the aspect of integrative, most of the students already have a good attitude towards learning English. It can be seen from the statistics obtained from questionnaires given. Statistics show that as many as 34.46% of the students agreed and 38.21% strongly agreed. The instrumental aspect also shows quite positive results. This can be proven by statistics that more than 41% of students answered agree to the statements in the questionnaire given. On the attitude towards lecturers, data obtained from quetionaire showed that 39.17% of the students agreed and 10:42% of respondents strongly agreed with the statement given. The last is a question related to the subject, as many as seven out of ten statements contained in this aspect of this course is a negative statement. So it can be concluded that the students already have a good attitude and interest towards learning English. From the statistics above show that student majoring in English education IAIN Surakarta had a pretty good motivation to learn, but still need for development in order to reach optimal learning results.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know students’ responses toward the implementation of Poster Session method in teaching speaking skill and to know the result of their study in speaking Arabic. This research is class action research in class XI IPA of SMAIT Al-Fityan, Aceh Besar. The data collected through interviews, observations, and tests.The result of this research showed that the implementation of poster session method is effective in improving students’ speaking skills and achievements. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap pelaksanaan metode Poster Session dalam pengajaran keterampilan berbicara serta mengetahui hasil belajar siswa dalam berbicara bahasa arab. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilakukan di kelas XI IPA SMAIT Al-Fityan, Aceh Besar. Adapun instrumen penelitian yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data meliputi wawancara, observasi dan tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa merespon secara positif penggunaan Poster Session dalam pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara bahasa Arab, demikian pula hasil belajar mereka menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan.

Abstract

The strategy of the head master of the school really influence the teachers’ competence profesionalism that being conducted by guiding and giving opportunity to the teacher to improve their profession. The aim of this study is to know the strategy of head master in utilizing the teacher teaching methods, the strategy of head master in evaluating the success of the teachers, and to know the situation of the school head master in improving the professional competence of the teachers at the state senior high school 1 Peukan Bada Aceh Besar. The approach used in this study is qualitative with descriptive method. The techniques used in data collection were observations, interviews and documentations. The subjects of the research were the head master of the school, school curriculum division, administration chairman, chairman on the students’ affairs, and subject teachers of SMAN 1 Peukan Bada. The results of the study show that the head master strategies in improving the profesional ism competence namely: (1) The teachers learning mastery; (2) The use of teaching-learning methods by involving the teachers in training activities, scientific activities, seminars, workshops, scientific writing in action research, team teaching, inhousing MGMPs, motivate teachers to continue their education and supervision; (3) The strategy of the headmaster of the school in evaluation and class supervision sometimes conducted suddenly. The results of the evaluations are collected into a head master note and be conveyed at the meeting and MGMPs forum activities as a follow-up evaluation on what has been carried out; (4) The obstacles faced by the head master of the school in improving profesional ism competence among others are: the time restriction of school head master and teachers to carry out their primary tasks, low motivation of the students and teacher in the late of retirement to master information technology, put work hour to support the teacher certification, and putting hours of work to support teacher certification.

Abstract

In the new millennium, the internet plays an important role in improving the quality of education. Internet has become one of the means of communication, discussion, and even exploration of varieties of information from and between different worlds. In the world of education in the West, for example, the internet is used as a means of transforming education, especially by those who are dealing with the limitations of time and geographical location. The internet allows students and professors to communicate and coordinate with each other on the progress of the research they are doing. The internet, through its search engines, also has made it easier for education person to find diverse scientific literatures. Thousands of books, studies, research articles, reports and scientific papers are now available online. However, behind the ease and benefit of the search engines, educational practitioners scrutinize the implications of the use of the internet to the world of education. The internet is often misused or used as a medium to perform a variety of crimes. Stealing other people's private information and money, provocation and scorn as well as accessing pornographic sites are a a few number of examples that are always connected to the use of internet. The issue of infringement on intellectual property rights and other plagiarism is also very often associated with the misuse of the internet today. But this particular article describes the benefits of the internet through search engines, potential challenges, and benefits for higher education.

Abstract

This study is intended to analyze differences and similarities of the objectives, approaches, methods, and media in learning the Inheritance Laws at Darul Huda and Jabal Nur. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques consists of interview, documentation and observation, while the techniques of data analysis were carried out in phases of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this study showed that the learning objectives of Inheritance Laws at Darul Huda and Jabal Nur were similar: to figure out the procedures of dividing inheritance, only the delivery strategies were different. Darul Huda’s learning approach was still teacher-oriented while Jabal Nur’s has already been learner-oriented. Further, the learning methods in Darul Huda still dominantly used lectures and question and answer, whereas those in Jabal Nur were more varied, using lectures, question and answer, assignments, discussions, demonstrations, and inquiry methods. As for the use of the media, both schools were using whiteboard and markers, however, Jabal Nur added laptops and LCD projectors during teaching and learning process as well.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the concept of human and Ibn Khaldun's ideas of education; to understand the concept of human and educational thought of John Dewey; to know the similarities and differences between the ideas of Ibn Khaldun and John Dewey on the concept of human and education. Various problems have been addressed through the library research method. The study produced several findings: First, human beings according to Ibn Khaldun as a creation of God with all the potential fitted to the five senses and intellect become intellect. The purpose of education opens the mind and maturity of the individual to the advancement of religious, industrial and social system. Material teaching is as educational planning. The method is to advocate phasing method, repetition, widya-tours and training (practice). Secondly, according to John Dewey man is a subject that has the ability, strength, personality, and existence who are capable of changing realities. The goal of education is only to gain happiness in the world life. The method of education is including problem solving, learning by doing and discipline. Third, the thought of Ibn Khaldun is much more religious because it is influenced by its control logic in religious knowledge, so that emphazises more on human spirituality in building civilization. While John Dewey is more radical and extreme, He proposed progressive education which strives against traditional teaching authority. Both Ibn Khaldūn dan Dewey are arise from inhuman socio-cultural environment and recognize the existence of human existence with nature and humanity impulse.

Abstract

Education is an important part of national development that determines nation’s economic growth. It also an investment in human resources development that improves ability as supporting factors in human life. In managing educational system, capacity is needed, especially by stake holder, from central, region until head master. Head master has a great role in managing educational system at school and teacher teach their students and organize learning activity effectively. Globalization forces the educational institution to prepare the students to deal with global changes. So that the student capable enough to be the agent of change from a positive angel. One of concept introduced by educational system to deal with the global change is SWOT analysis. SWOT is stand for Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Thread.
