Abstract

Abstract

The aims of this study are to determine the influence of bamboo culm section, axial position, and interaction between the culm section and the axial position on physical properties of bamboo petung derived from KHDTK SENARU, North Lombok. The method used in this study was the experimental method using a completely randomized factorial design (CRFD) with two factor. The first factor was the culm section (node and internode) and the second factor was the axial position (bottom, middle and top). Parameters that were observed in this study were green moisture content (MC), air dried MC, green specific gravity, longitudinal and thick shrinkage from green condition to oven dried condition. Data analysis used is the analysis of variance with a confidence level of 95%. The result shows that culm section, the interaction between culm section and axial position did not give significant influence on physical properties. While the axial position which included green MC and green specific gravity has a significant influence on physical properties. A further test was done on a significant result using Tukey's HSD test. Green MC decreases along the culm from base to top. In contrast, green specific gravity increases along the culm from base to top.

Abstract

Lombok Island has an area of 163,342.99 ha comprise of Production Forest, Conservation Forest and Protected Forest. Protected forests in Lombok have non-timber forest products potential, and one of which is from genus Amorphophallus that has economic value. These plants grow naturally in the forest and have a variety of names as well as uses for these plants. The absence of clear scientific names and descriptions of these plants urge the need to study the genus Amorphophallus growing in the island of Lombok, specifically in the Santong Protection Forest area. The purpose of this study is to identify the various species of the genus Amorphophallus and give them a complete scientific description. This research was conducted for five months between June to October of 2013. The methods used in this research are the exploration method and the descriptive method. The results concluded that there are two types of the genus Amorphophallus in the Santong Protected Forest Area, which are 1. Amorphophallus muelleri Blume, 2.Amorphophallus campanulatus Blume.

Abstract

Mangrove forest ecosystems have a very important role for humans and the environment, so to prevent further damage needs to be done identification of tree species composition and structure of mangrove forest stands. For the purpose of this research is to know the composition of tree species from the level of seedling to the tree and to know the structure of its stand. Data collection methods used are Inventory of mangrove species using Indonesian mangrove determination keychain and data analysis by calculating important value index, Diversity index, relative frequency and horizontal structure analysis. The results showed that the largest tree density structure was Rhizophora mucronata of 225 trees / hectare, Avicennia marinna of 145 trees / hectare, Sonneratia alba of 65 trees / hectare and Avicennia officinalis of 65 trees / hectare and had only one crown layer namely strata A which is dominated by Rhizophora mucronata tree which has an average free height of 9 m branch with total height 12 m and diameter 29 cm. For this reason, planting efforts need to be increased to increase the number and composition for coastal protection.

Abstract

Long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) is one of the forest-dwelling animals. Long-tailed monkeys can be found along the road that connects the green signpost with elephant training center. The aim of research to determine the spread of long-tailed monkeys in the area.  The research methods used Concentration Count on points discovery of groups of long-tailed monkeys.  An observation method used to determine the area of long-tailed monkeys move is done by taking the coordinates of the GPS based outer canopy that is used to move. Habitat conditions are determined using the Rapid Assessment. The results obtained in such a location that there are five groups of long-tailed monkeys who are geographically separated from each other. Fifth habitat conditions are relatively similar groups dominated by rosewood and main feed jeluak, hibiscus and islands. Three groups of five of the group activities occur near Entrance PLG. It shows that the group is influenced by tourist activity. Two other groups are in the natural habitat conditions.
