The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal has been organized and published by Minda Masagi Press, a publishing house owned by ASPENSI (the Association of Indonesian Scholars of History Education) in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is published every May and November. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is devoted, but not limited to, Social Sciences education, Humanities education, and any new development and advancement in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences education. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Data rasmi yang dikeluarkan oleh badan antarabangsa, seperti IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development) menunjukkan bahawa setiap tahun, “remittances” atau kiriman wang yang dilakukan oleh migran kembali ke negara asal mencatat peningkatan yang tinggi, termasuk di rantau Asia Tenggara. Jumlah tersebut tidak termasuk penghantaran yang dilakukan secara tidak formal, seperti apa yang berlaku di kalangan masyarakat Cham di Malaysia dan migran lain yang bekerja di Malaysia. Kajian ini mendapati bahawa bentuk sistem kiriman wang atau “remittances” tidak formal yang dipraktikkan oleh masyarakat Cham di Malaysia memperlihatkan keunikan yang tersendiri. Ianya bersifat tidak formal namun berstruktur, dan menjadi medium penghantaran utama sehingga ke hari ini. Walaupun sistem ini diklasifikasikan sebagai tidak formal, namun disebabkan tahap keberkesanan dan kebolehpercayaan melebihi sistem lain yang sedia ada, maka sistem ini dilihat mampu menyaingi sistem “remittances” moden. Kebolehpercayaan ini juga mempunyai kaitan dengan semangat “ke-Kemboja-an” yang kuat di kalangan masyarakat ini. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This article presents the teaching constraints of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in the Indonesian Senior High School context outlined by the development of recent English curriculum (school based curriculum). It discusses teaching constraints of EFL speaking in recent school based curriculum, constraints on understanding learners’ differences, constraints in learning material resources, constraints on classroom activities, constraints on teaching methods, and constraints on speaking assessment. Based on the discussion, this article also provides some solutions on what teachers of EFL speaking can do in order to achieve a higher quality of EFL speaking teaching and to improve the speaking skill of EFL students in Indonesia. Finally, the issue of the contribution of inserting learners’ differences in curriculum design to promote independent or successful learners becomes important in the implementation of school-based curriculum as current curriculum with focusing on learner centered instruction in large and mixed ability class and in other old paradigms in EFL teaching and learning in Indonesia. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Social interaction is a vital aspect in the creation of an identity, especially in a plural society like the one we have here in Malaysia. This study is carried out to identify the pattern of social interaction among students of various ethnicities in National Secondary Schools in Malaysia. The study sample consists of 720 students from form 1, 2, and 4. A questionnaire containing items of language and ethnic boundary was applied in order to obtain the data. The study finding shows that there is a significant difference in the mean score for every variable for students of various ethnicities. Students from National Chinese Type Schools who attend for National Secondary Schools are the one who use the least amount the “Bahasa Melayu” (Malay language) and students for National Tamil Type Schools are the one facing most of the stereotypes. Based on the study findings, a few recommendations were made regarding the social interaction among students of various ethnicities in National Secondary Schools in Malaysia. The success of increasing the social interaction pattern among students of various ethnicities depends on the policies and programs that were introduced by various agencies of the government. If it is not carried out successfully, “Satu Negara Satu Bangsa” (One State One Nation) will only remain as a slogan without any true meaning. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Membaca, dalam konteks pendidikan, adalah faktor penentu kepada keupayaan untuk berjaya. Guru sebagai pembawa obor ilmu dan contoh ikutan sewajarnya perlu berada dalam lingkungan pembaca yang berkesan. Namun untuk meletakkan budaya membaca sebagai pembinaan karakter, guru sedikit tergugat akibat faktor peribadi dan persekitaran profesional yang semakin mencabar. Oleh itu, kajian ini meneliti keupayaan guru untuk memiliki budaya dan strategi membaca yang sesuai dengan pembentukan karakter guru sebagai penyebar ilmu. Kajian dijalankan  secara tinjauan dengan menggunakan borang soal selidik. Sampel terdiri dari 186 guru Sekolah Rendah dan Menengah di Brunei Darussalam. Dapatan penyelidikan menunjukkan bahawa tahap membaca guru pada tahap tinggi dan sederhana. Sampel yang tempoh mengajar di bawah 10 tahun memiliki budaya membaca yang tinggi berbanding sampel lain. Sampel perempuan pula menunjukkan budaya membaca tinggi berbanding sampel lelaki. Min bagi tujuan membaca untuk mendapatkan maklumat adalah tinggi. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Malaysia has implemented the first computer system in 1966. Since then, the government – through Ministry of Education – has introduced various initiatives to facilitate the adoption and diffusion of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). In line with the Vision 2020, Ministry of Education has draft ways so as to integrate ICT into education system. Malaysian government has invested millions of Ringgit for the usage of ICT in education. The investments include the building of computer labs, supplying of PCs, and related peripherals, training of teachers, and development of instructional material. The research will concentrate on the utilization, self-efficacy, integration, and satisfactory level of the Islamic Religious Secondary School teachers of Malaysia. Although there are only 55 of such schools but these schools are actually a sought after schools by parents due to its capability of producing leaders academically as well as spiritually. The study will deal with issues such as self-efficacy, utilization, and training needs/provided as well as the integration of ICT in teaching and learning. The analysis is adopting principle component analysis to determine the predictors of the underlying variables as well the use of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to strengthen the analysis. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Program PMT (Pembinaan Masyarakat Terasing) di Indonesia menggunakan pola permukiman kembali, yakni memindahkan penduduk asli atau suku terasing ke pemukiman baru. Dengan pemukiman baru diharapkan suku terasing, seperti Suku Kubu, dapat dimasyarakatkan seperti layaknya masyarakat yang sudah maju. Maka disusunlah perencanaan berdasarkan konsep ideal yang rapi, dengan penanggung jawab teknis adalah Departemen Sosial. Namun program ”pembinaan” ini ternyata mengalami kegagalan. Tidak cukup bertahan dalam setengah tahun, atas kesadaran mereka dan pertimbangan rasional mereka, maka orang-orang Suku Kubu ini kembali ke pondok-pondok asal mereka di Bukit Duabelas. Program ”pembinaan” yang mereka harapkan ternyata tidak sesuai dengan kenyataan. Program ”pembinaan” dengan pola permukiman kembali suku terasing, termasuk Suku Kubu, justru merupakan proses pengasingan bagi masyarakat terasing yang sesungguhnya memiliki nilai-nilai kearifan lokal dan tradisional yang justru mungkin dapat membangun kembali tatanan masyarakat modern yang lebih menjamin penghargaan atas kemanusiaan. Hasil analisis dan temuan di lapangan menunjukkan bahwa untuk mensukseskan program memasyarakatkan suku terasing harus diubah dari pola ”pembinaan” menjadi pola ”pemberdayaan” dengan berbagai kebijakan yang lebih memperhatikan aspirasi dan nilai-nilai budaya lokal yang mereka miliki. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Kajian terhadap model pembudayaan nilai-moral di lingkungan pendidikan dan pengembangan model alternatif hipotetik perlu dilakukan agar menjadi acuan bagi pemegang kebijakan, praktisi pendidikan, dan stakeholder pendidikan dalam melakukan pembudayaan nilai-moral di lingkungan sekolah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif analitik untuk studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, studi dokumentasi, dan studi pustaka. Sumber data utama adalah kata-kata dan tindakan warga sekolah SD (Sekolah Dasar) Negeri Bandungrejosari I di Kota Malang, Jawa Timur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model pembudayaan nilai-moral dapat dikembangkan melalui tiga pendekatan, yaitu: (1) Pengintegrasian nilai-moral pada mata pelajaran; (2) Melalui penataan suasana sekolah, baik unsur fisik maupun non fisik sehingga nilai-moral kondusif untuk diimplementasikan di sekolah; dan (3) Melalui program ekstrakurikuler seperti pramuka, drum band, dan bela diri. Adapun “core value” model realitas sekolah ini adalah Ar-Rahman dengan 11 nilai rinciannya seperti: ketakwaan, keamanan, ketertiban, keindahan, kebersihan, kekeluargaan, kerindangan, kesehatan, keterbukaan, keteladanan, dan kewirausahaan, yang dikemas dengan istilah 11 K. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper is of utmost significance as it attempts to discuss the concept of belief in religions with special reference to Islam. Among the leading factors that have influence on ones belief are ethnic, race, lineage, nationality, emotion, and knowledge. In addition, this paper discusses the impact of belief on human psychology and behaviour. Faith and belief based on religion will have great influence on human psychology and behaviour, and thus shaping one’s personality. There are differences between the concept of belief based on religion and that of ideology. In this respect, Al-Shahrastani (469-548 AH / 1076-1153 AD), in his magnum opus of Kitab al-Milal wa al-Nihal, distinguishes religious beliefs from other beliefs which are based on ideology and human philosophical thought. On another note, psychological values are the key aspect of one’s religious belief. The psychological impacts on ones belief among others are tranquility, balanced soul, strong personality, and spiritual strength. In short, the psychological impacts have the ability to shape the behaviour of one who believes in religion. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study was designed to investigate whether Intrinsic Motivation (IM) related to the creative production on solving real problems that measured based on two criteria: novelty and appropriateness. 10th-grade students in Oman represented by 367 students (male and female) from eight schools (rural and urban) were the sample of the study. Work Preference Inventory from T.M. Amabile, B. Hennessy and E. Tighe (1994) was manipulated to assess intrinsic motivation. Problem-Solving Test (PST) developed by researchers was used to measure creative production on solving real problems through content contexts of subjects such as Arabic Language, Social Studies, and Science. Findings showed that IM correlated positively with novelty and appropriateness. MANOVA test showed that main effect of school type was significant for novelty and appropriateness, but gender was not. Analysis of simultaneous regression indicated that intrinsic motivation and gender predicted the total score of problem solving test, but school type was not. The implications of the study enhance our understanding of the intrinsic motivation as a personality trait on developing creativity among school students.Key words: Intrinsic motivation, creative production, solving real problems, novelty and appropriateness, and students in Oman.  About the Authors: Assoc. ABSTRAK: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh masih rendahnya kompetensi dan produktivitas PNS (Pegawai Negeri Sipil) di Indonesia sehingga sulit untuk mencapai efesiensi dan efektivitas dalam penyelenggaraan pemerintahan. Badiklat Kemendagri RI (Badan Pendidikan dan Pelatihan Kementerian Dalam Negeri Republik Indonesia) memiliki posisi yang sangat strategis dalam usaha mengembangkan kompetensi SDM (Sumber Daya Manusia) aparatur. Secara umum, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan, memahami, dan memaknai tentang implementasi kebijakan reformasi sumber daya ke-Diklat-an. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, bersifat interpretatif, dan naturalistik. Temuan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi reformasi dalam aspek sumber daya ke-Diklat-an masih belum optimal. Banyak faktor yang menjadi penyebab, diantaranya adalah faktor kesiapan SDM, manajemen Diklat, dan lembaga Diklat itu sendiri. Penelitian ini menawarkan strategi alternatif model manajemen peningkatan kompetensi aparatur yang didasarkan pada pendekatan sistem yang saling berkaitan, penekankan pada uji kompetensi, dan sertifikasi SDM Diklat.Kata-kata kunci: Kompetensi PNS, manajemen Diklat, Badan Diklat, pendekatan sistem, dan uji kompetensi.===About the Author: Dr. drg.
