Abstract

Mathematical reasoning is the ability of a person's brain that includes the presentation of statements, making conjectures, performing mathematical manipulations, and presenting conclusions. This study aims to analyze or describe the ability of mathematical reasoning in solving trigonometric problems based on Van Hiele's level of thinking among high school students. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques consist of tests and interviews. Data analysis involves data presentation, reduction, and conclusion. The results of this study show that students at level 0 (visualization) of Van Hiele's level of thinking have one indicator of mathematical reasoning ability, which is to present statements. Students at level 1 (analysis) of Van Hiele's level of thinking have two indicators of mathematical reasoning: presenting statements and making conjectures. Students at level 2 (informal cut) of Van Hiele's level of thinking have three indicators of mathematical reasoning: presenting statements, making conjectures, and mathematical manipulations. Students at level 3 (deduction) of Van Hiele's level of thinking have four indicators of mathematical reasoning ability: presenting statements, making conjectures, mathematical manipulations, and drawing conclusions. Therefore, the higher the thinking level of the students at Van Hiele, the higher their mathematical reasoning ability. Whereas, the lower the Van Hiele thinking level of students, the lower their mathematical reasoning ability.

Abstract

Inventory control is a production activity that involves planning the amount, time, or cost that must be controlled to obtain a minimum cost and no loss. At the BNN Community Foundation Building Unit, when producing crackers, the production process was disrupted because the available raw materials did not meet production requirements. This study aims to find out the planning and control of raw materials in producing crackers and compare the company's calculation results with the Silver Meal Heuristic method. In this calculation using the data of 5 raw materials and the main requirements in the production process for three months, the result obtained in the calculation with the heuristic silver meal method obtained a minimum result of IDR 27,488,580. When compared to the calculation from the company for three months of production cost expenses, the calculation using the method silverware heuristic can save costs up to IDR 52,19,420. This proves that the calculation using the silver meal heuristic method is better used because it can control the total cost that the factory has to bear in producing crackers.

Abstract

ASN is an abbreviation for State Civil Apparatus. ASN is a term for professions that work under the auspices of government agencies at both the central and regional levels. This regulation of rights and obligations is a form of state intervention in the regulation of ASN. In implementing the AAUPB (general principles of good government) ASN Law, it was found that there were differences in the rights and obligations of PNS and PPPK. According to Article 21 of the ASN Law, civil servants have the right to receive salaries, allowances, holidays, old age security, protection, and increased qualifications. Meanwhile, according to Article 22, PPPK has the right to receive salary allowances, holidays, protection, and competency development. A very significant difference in the rights that PPPK does not receive is pension and old-age security. Based on this law, this research aims to provide a general overview of the pension calculations that will be received by PPPK using the EAN and PUC methods, so that of these two methods, which method is better for the number of normal contributions and actuarial obligations for participants and agencies between EAN and PU? Based on the calculation results, the method PUC (Project Unit Credit) is more suitable to use because there is no significant difference between normal contributions and actuarial obligations, so it can be profitable for both parties.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find a comparison of Bellman-Ford and Greedy algorithms to optimize the shortest route of PT Tiki Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir (JNE). Bellman-Ford and Greedy algorithms are two algorithms that are often used in finding the shortest distance or optimal solution on a weighted graph. This research will be carried out at the JNE Medan Representative Office located on Jl. SM Raja Km 10.5 Amplas Trade Center Complex Blok F-10, while the type of research that will be used in this paper is applied research. The results of the study indicated the selection of the Bellman-Ford method because the Bellman-Ford method provides a more optimal route in terms of distance. Where the total initial distance used by PT Tiki Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir (JNE) is 20.5 km through routes including A→C → D → E → G→ H → J→ K→ L → N → O → P → R. While the total distance from the results of the new route sequence using the Bellman-Ford algorithm is 17.3 km by going through routes including A→B→D→E→F→H→I→K→L→M→O→Q→R And the total distance of the new sequence results using the Greedy algorithm is 17.5 km by going through routes A→B → D → E → F→ H → J→ K→ L → N → O → Q → R. This shows an efficiency of 15% in comparing existing routes with routes resulting from data analysis using Bellman-Ford.

Abstract

Computational thinking skills play an important role in helping students solve mathematical problems. Students' problem-solving ability is influenced by cognitive style. The purpose of this study was to explore the computational thinking ability of prospective mathematics teachers based on field-independent and field-dependent cognitive styles. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection instruments used are test questions, cognitive style questionnaires, and interview guidelines. Before use, the test questions were validated by two mathematics education experts and tested on five prospective mathematics teacher students. The subjects of this study were 47 prospective math teacher students at one of the private universities in Surakarta. Based on the test results and cognitive style questionnaire, researchers selected 3 field independent students and 2 field dependent students to be interviewed. The results showed that at the abstraction stage, all subjects can represent mathematical concepts in symbols or mathematical language appropriately. While at the stage of thinking algorithms and generalization, subjects with a field-dependent style tend to give answers that are less precise. Thus, it can be concluded that there are differences in the ability in the computational thinking process of students based on cognitive style.

Abstract

The use of digital signatures in various electronic services such as e-transactions, e-commerce, and e-learning is necessary for today's humans. All types of these services are highly dependent on the privacy, integrity, and authenticity between the sender and recipient of the data. Mathematically, many digital signature schemes such as Rivest Shamir Adleman (RSA), Elgamal, and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) are made using the concept of integer multiplication. Previous research introduced the RSA signature with a square matrix that changes data as a matrix instead of integers. The security of the scheme depends on the matrix with order . The larger  the digit chosen, the better the level of protection. This modification makes this digital signature system more secure than systems using integers because the randomization process is more random and complicated. However, the operating system involves matrix exponentiation, requiring a lot of computing time and space. In this study, researchers changed the matrix exponentiation to ordinary matrix multiplication. The advantage is that the proposed algorithm has a faster computing speed because it only involves ordinary matrix multiplication. In the first step, the researcher forms several rectangular matrices as random variables for the key generation algorithm. Next, the researcher models the signing and signature verification algorithms. After that, the researcher codes in Mathematica and simulates the proposed signature scheme. In the final stage, the researcher performs a mathematical attack test analysis on the algorithm. The results show that the proposed scheme can generate keys and sign and verify signatures well. In addition, the proposed scheme system has also been tested for possible mathematical attacks.

Abstract

This research is motivated by students' limited ability to understand mathematical concepts, the lack of diverse instructional media, the predominance of conventional teaching methods, and students' diminished motivation and interest in mathematics, particularly in solving word problems. This research aims to explore the learning process, student achievements, improvements, and the impact of implementing the Team Games Tournament (TGT) teaching approach supported with the PhET application on students' understanding of mathematical concepts in mathematics. A quasi-experimental method was employed with a nonequivalent control group design. Data collection methods included pretests (before instruction) and posttests (after instruction). Data analysis was carried out using normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing through t-tests and the Mann-Whitney U test. The findings reveal that the learning process when using the TGT teaching approach supported by the PhET application proceeded effectively. From the hypothesis testing results, analysis revealed a meaningful difference between the pre-test scores of the control and experimental classes, together with a substantial difference in post-test scores. This demonstrates that students' ability to comprehend mathematical concepts improved both before and after using the TGT teaching approach with PhET assistance. An effect size test showed a result that falls within the large category. Hence, the application of the TGT teaching approach, supported by the PhET application, positively influences students' ability to understand mathematical concepts.

Abstract

North Sumatra had the 17th lowest rate of poverty in 2023 out of 34 provinces, with 1,239.71 thousand people, or 8.15 percent, living there. Although there has been a decline in the poverty rate in 2023 compared to previous years, there are still many districts and cities in North Sumatra with significant rates of poverty; thus, this cannot be disregarded. The government must act to address this by providing the community with various forms of aid and increasing the number of job openings. To overcome this, one must first identify the cities or districts with the lowest to highest rates of poverty. This can be avoided with data mining, namely by applying the clustering technique. The Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering (AHC) algorithm and the K-Means algorithm were the clustering techniques employed in this investigation. The Davies Bouldin Index (DBI) will then be used to validate the clustering results in order to ascertain which technique yields the best cluster. Three clusters were created using the AHC method: cluster 1 had 31 districts/cities, cluster 2 had one district/city, and cluster 3 had one district/city. Using the k-means approach, three clusters were identified: cluster 1, which included 22 districts/cities, had the lowest poverty rate; cluster 2, which included 10 districts/cities, had a moderate poverty rate; and cluster 3, which included 1 district/city, had the highest poverty rate. It was discovered through clustering validation that the k means method with a DBI value of 0.45 was the most effective approach for this investigation.

Abstract

One of the addictive chemicals that can cause addiction is cigarettes. By combining smoking data among students of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at UINSU Medan, this study seeks to overcome the problem of smoking. The K-Prototypes approach is one of the ones that is applied. Microsoft Excel 2010 and IBM SPSS Statistics are programs used to analyze research data. A sample questionnaire of FST students from UINSU Medan provided data. The findings showed that the K prototype had an impact on smoking factors, study programs, types of cigarettes, the number of cigarettes smoked, and the early age of smoking. There are 19 objects in Cluster 1, 21 objects in Cluster 2, and 25 objects in Cluster 3 students in each cluster. According to the cluster data of the K-Prototypes method, the smoking factor was caused by friends in cluster 1, which included early-age smokers (12.789) with 1.895 packs of salt warehouse cigarettes. In the second group of early smoking age groups (15.810), 1.381 packs of salt warehouse cigarettes were smoked, and the smoking factor was associated with the family. In the third group of early-age smokers (20.44), there were 1.96 packs of Marlboro cigarettes, and friends were a factor in smoking. Thus, the three study programs at FST UINSU Medan require a lot of attention from schools, families, and students.

Abstract

This study develops a SEIR (Susceptible, Exposed, Infectious, and Recovered) model to model the spread of COVID-19 by adding the use of health masks, vaccinations, quarantines, and asymptomatic compartments. The model is analyzed using equilibrium point stability analysis and numerical simulation. Based on the system, two equilibrium points are obtained, namely the disease-free equilibrium point and the endemic equilibrium point, and the basic reproduction number (Ro). The stability analysis of the disease-free equilibrium point will be locally asymptotically stable if Ro<1. The numerical simulation results show that the disease will disappear from the population if Ro<1  and remain in the population if Ro>1 . Based on the sensitivity analysis, parameters with significant impact are the level of awareness of individuals in using health masks, vaccination rates, contact rates with symptomatic or asymptomatic infected individuals, and quarantine rates for symptomatic infected individuals.
