Abstract

Most of the energy used in residential buildings originates from air conditioners. Meanwhile, air conditioner manufacturers are addressing this issue by the production of efficient air conditioners. However, the convertible frequency air conditioners are expensive, up to 60% higher than the fixed frequency control air conditioners. Besides the human behavior in determining the temperature, setpoint plays an important role regardless of the air conditioners technology used. This study incorporated intelligence in setting up the temperature by means of specially designed remote control. The Tsukamoto fuzzy reasoning was utilized as a decision making system with two inputs, namely the outdoor temperature and the number of occupants. The device used DHT22 as the temperature sensor and HC-SR04 to detect incoming and outgoing occupants. Furthermore, the fuzzy inference system generated infrared signal associated with the temperature setpoint. This signal was received by the air conditioner receiver to adjust the temperature setpoint accordingly. The result of this study showed that the fuzzy inference system determines the temperature setpoint appropriately under variations of surrounding temperature and the number of occupants. The proposed approach yielded a satisfactory perception of thermal comfort and also a promising approach to energy conservation.

Abstract

South Sumatra has an established state-own enterprise exploring the Quarry Open Pit Mine. This mining process leaves some abondance open field that has a high potential to install a PV system. The Government has undertaken an initial analysis of 200 hectares of ex-mining land for this purpose. This paper analyzes the potential for PV panels to be installed at PTBA Tanjung Enim Quarry Open Pit Mine. The location of the PV panel in the open pit Quarry for this analysis is at an altitude of +140 m above sea level. Meanwhile, the PTBA Tanah Putih Township housing site where the PV comparison panel is installed is located on the altitude of +100 m above sea level, and within 2.97 km from the mine. PV panels installed in Open Pit mines generate better electricity and efficiency compared to PV panels installed outside the mine (in PTBA Township Housing). The difference of Isc between PV Panel installed in Quarry Open Pit Mine and Township is 0.0075 A. The Iload measured on the Quarry Open Pit Mine PV panel is 0.5478 A higher than the Township PV panel. Meanwhile, Voc measured on Quarry Open Pit Mine PV panel is smaller than Township PV panel, approximately 0.266 V and Vload of Quarry Open Pit Mine PV panel is 0.266 V larger than Township PV panel. The produced power of Quarry Open Pit Mine PV panel is 11.02 W larger than the Township PV panel. From the total value, the average efficiency produced by Quarry Open Pit Mine PV panels is 2.31 % higher than the efficiency produced by Township PV panels. This research shows the possibility and advantage of installing a PV system on a Quarry Open Pit Mine.

Abstract

Electric hydraulic actuators are more used especially in industries that demand high levels of accuracy. A common problem with this type of actuator is consistency in fluid flow control. PID controllers can accelerate the achievement of defined output values, eliminate offsets, and reduce maximum overshoots but result in considerable errors. Therefore, it is necessary to design controllers that can reduce errors significantly. In this research, a Fractional Order PID controller is developed to reduce maximum overshoots and steady state. Unlike conventional PID controllers that have three  parameters, in the Fractional Order PID controller, there are extra two parameters of the λ and μ. The   parameters were selected using the Ziegler Nichols method with a 1st order approach with a delay time. Meanwhile, the λ and μ parameters were selected the best value to make the system response better. The results of the design of the Fractional Order PID controller were evaluated using matlab simulation. The simulation results showed that the Fractional Order PID controller was able to reduce the steady state error response by 0.5 %, and the maximum overshoots by 17.4 %. From this result, it can be noted that the Fractional Order PID controller is better than conventional PID.

Abstract

Smart Health Care System has been developed massively in the last decade. Internet of Things implementation has accelerated the development of smart health technology. Now people have realized the importance of doing independent health monitoring. Supported by more affordable e-health tools, motivation in using the smart health system is increasing. The availability of cloud as storage services triggers demands to always be connected to the Internet. However, there are times when interference occurs so the measurement results cannot be stored in the cloud database properly. The idea of using a store-forward mechanism to overcome the problem of disconnected smart healthcare system is proposed in this paper. From the test results, the data can be sent properly eventhough disconnected status occurs for 30 minutes. Smartwatch’s memory usage has increase 30 percent during temporary storage occupied.

Abstract

Intensively monitoring river water level and flows in both upstream and downstream catchments are essential for flood forecasting in disaster risk reduction. This paper presents a developed flood river water level forecasting utilizing a hybrid technique called adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) model, employed for Kelantan river basin, Kelantan state, Malaysia. The ANFIS model is designed to forecast river water levels at the downstream area in hourly lead times. River water level, rainfall, and river flows were considered as input variables located in upstream stations, and one river water level in the downstream station is chosen as flood forecasting point (FFP) target. Particularly, each of these input-output configurations consists of four stations located in different areas. About twenty-seven data with fifteen minutes basis recorded in January 2013 to March 2015 were used in training and testing the ANFIS network. Data preprocessing is done with feature reduction by principal component analysis and normalization as well. With more attributes in input configurations, the ANFIS model shows better result in term of coefficient correlation ( ) against artificial neural network (ANN)-based models and support vector machine (SVM) model. In general, it is proven that the presented ANFIS model is a capable machine learning approach for accurate forecasting of river water levels to predict floods for disaster risk reduction and early warning.

Abstract

Games are powerful tools for teaching and learning, especially in the age of Education 4.0. The rapid growth of educational games is hindered by various problems, including their development cost. The medium coupling approach, which allows an educational game to be both engaging and economical, is one potential solution to the problem; unfortunately, it has received only sporadic attention. This study aims to explore the matter of designing medium-coupling educational games through a design framework. The framework dissects an educational game’s game content and educational content into parts to be interconnected. We applied the framework to design and develop an educational role-playing game (RPG). Sixty first-year Informatics students tested the game, which presented three learning topics with different characteristics. A post-test questionnaire’s results validate the game’s entertainment and educational values while also uncovering how it works under different learning contents. A discussion with the participants gathered insightful suggestions and critiques, which, together with the questionnaire’s results, are synthesized into design principles for medium-coupling games. We conclude that the framework is useful for creating games that are entertaining, educational, and cost-efficient.

Abstract

Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is a recently used popular machine learning technique to classify images. However, choosing an optimum and efficient architecture is an inevitable challenge. The research goal was to implement CNN on face classification from low quality CCTV footage. The best model was gained from the hyperparameter optimization process used on CNN structure. The optimized hyperparameters were those connected to the structure network including activation function, the number of kernel, the size of kernel, and the number of nodes on the fully connected layers. Hyperparameter optimization strategy used was random grid coarse-to-fine search optimization approach. This approach combined random search, grid search, and coarse-to-fine technique that was easily and efficiently applied, yet worked well. Exhaustive-random search process was done by evaluating all selected activation functions and choosing another hyperparameters randomly. This was based on the assumption that activation functions were the most related hyperparameter to the model. The SELU activation function used in the next step was the one with the best average performance. Grid coarse-to-fine was conducted to optimize the number of kernel and the number of node on fully connected layer, while grid search was conducted to optimize the kernel size. This process aimed to locate optimal value gradually in hyperparameter which had high-dimensional space. Evaluation of the model resulted from the optimum hyperparameter was 97,56%.
