Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present critical factors that constitute a successful implementation of the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) in Small Medium Enterprise (SME). Many large companies have applied AMT and the applications have shown significant results in this global market era. Conveniently, these phenomenons are also engaged to Small Medium Enterprises (SME) that of high demands on performing high quality product, fast delivery, reliable and more flexible. The implementation of AMT follow several processes namely pre installation, installation, improvement and mature. In order to guarantee the succesfull of running these processes, one should consider the Critical Success Factors (CSF). We conducted a survey to 125 SMEs that have implemented AMT, and found that the CSF for each process are moderately different. Good leadership is the main critical success factor for preparing and installation of the AMT. Once the AMT started or installed and arrived at growth stage, the financial availability factor turns into a critical success factor in the AMT implementation. In, mature stage, the support and commitment of top management becomes an important factor for gaining successful implementation. By means of factor analysis, we could point out that strategic factors are the main factors in pre-installation and installation stage. Finally, in the growth stage and mature stage, both tactical and strategic factors are the important factors in the successful of AMT implementation

Abstract

The management of supermarket usually has some assumptions about the customers' expectation. Sometimes these assumtions do not reflect the nature of customers' expectations. Because of this miss perception, the supermarket looses its profit and becomes inefficient. This research was carried out in order to find out the customers' expectation on facilities and services of the supermarkets according to the servqual dimensions. The outcomes will be mapped into Kano categorizations. The researcher asked the customer dan manager of four supermarkets to fill the prepared questionnaires. Based on the result of customers' questionnaires, tangible, reliability and assurance dimensions were categorized as one dimensional. While responsiveness and emphaty dimensions were categorized as indifferent. Based on the result of managers' questionnaires, all servqual dimensions were categorized as one dimensional. After comparing the results of customers' and managers' questionnaires, there are three of four supermarkets which are match each other. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Manajemen supermarket pada umumnya memiliki asumsi-asumsi mengenai harapan konsumen yang belum tentu sama dengan harapan konsumen sesungguhnya.

Abstract

The actors in the palm oil supply chain industry are the farmers, traders, crude palm oil (CPO) factories, frying-oil factories (refineries), distributors and the consumers. The farmers sell fresh fruit bunches (FFB) to the CPO factories through traders. FFB is converted into CPO which is later sold to the refineries. Refineries convert CPO into frying oil which is sold to the consumers through the distributors. There are risks due to product quality consistency, price fluctuation and supply chain continuity. This study has two objectives: (1) to develop a model to identify, evaluate and rank the risks, (2) to develop a model to identify and rank the strategies in improving their added value. Data for this study was obtained through direct interviews and questionnaires. The respondents were selected experts and industry players. The data were processed using Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) models. The first FAHP model showed that the two most important risks were the supply chain continuity and product quality. The second FAHP model showed that the recommended strategies to improve the added values of the actors were the improvement of the infrastructure/cluster development, followed by the usage of superior seeds and cultivation techniques.

Abstract

A good land-use allocation is an important effort to create a safe urban space, comfortable, productive, and sustainable. This is as stipulated in UU RI No. 26 of 2007 regarding spatial planning in Indonesia. Therefore the optimization on allocation land use is important to do. In this paper we present a different approach to solve the land-use allocation problem, i.e,, by using multiobjective optimization, branch and bound methods and generating spatial data analysis via uniformly weighted matrix. In this problem, the objective function is to maximize the total density index and total comprehensive index of the land-use types. An illustrative data that refer to Region Regulation for Bandung No. 09 of 2009 is presented.

Abstract

Regression analysis is constructed for capturing the influences of independent variables to dependent ones. It can be done by looking at the relationship between those variables. This task of approximating the mean function can be done essentially in two ways. The quiet often use parametric approach is to assume that the mean curve has some prespecified functional forms. Alternatively, nonparametric approach, .i.e., without reference to a specific form, is used when there is no information of the regression function form (Haerdle, 1990). Therefore nonparametric approach has more flexibilities than the parametric one. The aim of this research is to find the best fit model that captures relationship between admission test score to the GPA. This particular data was taken from the Department of Design Communication and Visual, Petra Christian University, Surabaya for year 1999. Those two approaches were used here. In the parametric approach, we use simple linear, quadric cubic regression, and in the nonparametric ones, we use B-Spline and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS). Overall, the best model was chosen based on the maximum determinant coefficient. However, for MARS, the best model was chosen based on the GCV, minimum MSE, maximum determinant coefficient.

Abstract

Appearance, colors and adhesion characteristics of chicken nugget are important to customer satisfaction and buying decision. These characteristics are generally inspected by hu-man, thus, the inspectors might incorrectly judge. In addition, the results are not quantitatively recorded for further analysis and improvement. Therefore, this study focuses on constructing a measurement instrument for detecting the qualities of chicken nugget, then gage repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) study is used to ensure that the instrument is capable of dis-tinguishing nugget differences. Since, there are eleven characteristics of chicken nugget are analyzed. The principal component analysis is applied to reduce the number of characteristics from eleven dimensions to only four dimensions. The experiments and data analysis show that the dimension reduction is useful for rapidly detect the abnormality of nuggets and finally help practitioners to improve the process.

Abstract

Production plants of a company are located in several areas that spread across Middle and East Java. As the production process employs mostly manpower, we suspected that each location has different characteristics affecting the productivity. Thus, the production data may have a spatial and hierarchical structure. For fitting a linear regression using the ordinary techniques, we are required to make some assumptions about the nature of the residuals i.e. independent, identically and normally distributed. However, these assumptions were rarely fulfilled especially for data that have a spatial and hierarchical structure. We worked out the problem using mixed effect model. This paper discusses the model construction of productivity and several characteristics in the production line by taking location as a random effect. The simple model with high utility that satisfies the necessary regression assumptions was built using a free statistic software R version 2.6.1.

Abstract

Flow shop scheduling problem is to schedule a production process of n jobs that go through the same process sequence and the same m machines. Most researches are don to accomplish only one objective, i.e. minimizing makespan. The other objective, such as total flow time, or multiple objectives that is minimizing makespan, total flow time and machine idle time, will be more effective in reducing scheduling cost, as written in French (1982). Rajendran algorithm (1995) that solves flow shop problem with multiple objectives will be used to evaluate the proposed algorithm: Genetic Algorithm, developed by Sridhar & Rajendran (1996) on a problem that existed in a shoe factory.
