Abstract

Biology laboratory practice that applies the discovery learning model is expected to complement all necessary science process needed by the students during the learning activity. The research was an experiment of learning to find the differences in learning outcome in the form of students’ science process skills between discovery learning and the conventional model of biology laboratory practice. The research is conducted at the Public Junior High School 4, Ternate City for the 8th-grade students from October to December 2018. The research instrument used basic science process skills is observation sheet. The indicator of basic science process skills consists of observing, classifying, measuring, communicating, inferring, and predicting. The result of research data analysis shows that t count value was 4.261 with the significance of 0.000. The discovery learning model of biology laboratory practice is better in improving students’ basic science process skills than the learning model of conventional laboratory practice. According to the result, it was concluded that there were differences in students' basic science process skills between the discovery learning model and the conventional model of Biology laboratory practice. Discovery learning model of biology laboratory practice was better in improving the student's basic science skill than the conventional model.

Abstract

Environmental awareness is consciousness of the environment problems for doing positive action through environmental preservation. Environmental preservation is an obligation for every people, including students. Therefore, students participation is needed to preserve school environmental through the Go Green School activity. One of the factors that can affect participation of students in Go Green School activity is their environmental awareness. The study aims to determine the correlation between environmental awareness and participation of students in Go Green School activity at Adiwiyata School. The research was conducted at SMAN 4 Tangerang in April 2016. The method used was survey method with correlational studies. The sample total used was 218 students taken by simple random sampling. Data was normally distributed and homogeneous. The simple regression equation is Ŷ = 44,92 + 0,695X. Correlation coefficient obtained is 0,7566 which means that there is a correlation between environmental awareness with participation of students in Go Green School activity. Environmental awareness of students accounted for 57,24% of the Go Green School activity. The result of this study concluded that there was positive correlation between environmental awareness and participation of students in Go Green School activity.

Abstract

This research aims to describing the implementation of character education value in Biology lesson at Senior High School in Muara Enim Regency in respect to planning and implementation aspects of learning. The research subjects consisted of three Biology teachers determined by purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques are used audiovisual materials and documents. Data were analyzed by transcription, coding and verifying data. the results of this research show that the implementation of character education value in Biology lesson on the aspect of planning and implementation consists of three things, namely 1) the values ​​designed and implemented by Biology teachers consists of discipline, curiosity, and responsibility, 2) values ​​designed but not implemented are discipline, creative value, curiosity value, and joy of reading, and 3) values ​​that are not designed but implemented are discipline, hard work, reading, and responsibility. In general, Biology teachers are implemented character education value in learning through messages by using words. In addition, Biology teachers also have not utilized the learning materials at each meeting to develop the value of character education of the learners.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop a learning module on biotechnology based on Sains Technology Society (STM) and to know the module quality according to the expert assessments. This research was a developments research (R & D) with 3-D (Define, Design, and Develop) model. The instruments in this research were questionaire and expert assessment sheets. Module was assessed from the feasibility aspects of content, sains technology society (STM), language, presentation and layout. The data from questionaires and assessment sheets was used to improve the module contents and structures. The result of this research was a learning module based on the sains technology society (STM) on biotechnology. The result assessment according to the expert showed that the modul was 93,8% with category very good and feasible to use as learning module for 12th grade of senior high school.

Abstract

Students need to have one of the science process skills in learning which is communication skill. Based on observation it was known that not every student had the same communication capabilities, both in oral and written. This is due to lack of student’s understanding about the concept of the material which being studied. Application of Concept Attainment learning model was expected to train students how to construct concepts on their own and be able to express it verbally. This study was aimed to determine the influence of the Concept Attainment learning model to communication skills and student’s understanding of Reproductive System material concept. This research was conducted in SMA Negeri 16 Jakarta on May 2015. This research used quasi-experimental method. The sample were 30 students each in the experimental class and control class by using simple random sampling. The instrument for this research was a written communication skills post test, understanding of concepts post test, and the observation of verbal ability. The analysis prerequisite test was the test of normality with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and homogeneity test with F test. Based on the calculations, the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. Hypothesis test using the test results showed that Ho was rejected at α 0.05. It means that there was an influence of Concept Attainment learning model of the communication skills and student’s understanding concept on Reproductive System.

Abstract

The analytical thinking skill is a part of the higher order thinking process. The analytical thinking skill is needed to solve a problem in learning process. The analytical thinking has 5 process, there are matching, classifying, analyzing errors, generalizing, and specifying. Group Investigation (GI) model is applied in learning to improve the analytical thinking skill of students in environmental pollution. This research aimed to determine the influence of applying Group Investigation (GI) model on student analytical thinking skill in environmental pollution. This research was held on second semester of academic year 2015/2016 on April until May 2016 in Labschool Kebayoran Junior High School. The kind of this research is a quantitative research with quasi experiment methods. The subject of this research is students in Class VII-B and VII-F Labschool Kebayoran Junior High School. The instrument which used are essay post-test with 15 questions and carried out-learning observations sheet. Based on the result of research, obtained the mean of the analytical thinking skills score test in experiment class is higher than control class, that is 78,46 > 69,43. The prerequisite test shows that data normally distributed and class groups derived from a homogenous population. The hypothesis test uses t-test on 0,05 significant level shows that there is an influence of applying Group Investigation (GI) model on student analytical thinking skill in environmental pollution.

Abstract

The junior high school students almost every day activities of the school to get an extra snack energy after a long day at school. However, snack food in schools and surrounding areas can not be secured, including the safety of additives. To avoid students from the negative impact of food additives, the needed knowledge about the additives. Knowledge of these additives have an important role in shaping the attitude of the selection of snack food. This study aim to determine correlation between knowledge of additives and attitude about selection of snack food students at SMPN 74 Jakarta. The research was conducted at SMPN 74 Jakarta on April-May 2016. The method of this study was descriptive method with survey techniques through correlational studies. The sample of this study was 166 students. Prerequisite test results showed that the data was normally distributed and homogeneous. Regression model Ŷ= 127.35 + 2.23X that was significant and had a linear correlation. Based on hypothesis testing, the value of the correlation coefficient of 0.76 and a coefficient of determination of 58%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there was a positive correlation between knowledge about additives and attitude about selection of snack food students at SMPN 74 Jakarta and knowledge about additives contributed 58% to attitude about selection of snack food students at SMPN 74 Jakarta.

Abstract

The increasing of economic growth evoked the prosperity of its citizen which subsequently would lead to the consumption behaviors of such population for goods andservices. Ecological Footprint is a individual or population as well as the services needed to assimilate west in term of land. Social factors, such as personality, is known as a crucial factor that cause the consumption pattern of individuals is vary considerably. This research was aimed to determine the effect of personality on Ecological Footprint of students at senior high school in Jakarta. Measuring of Ecological Footprint is concentrated on water using at home and school. The activities of water using focused on urinating, defecating, face washing, taking a bath, hand washing, and ritual ablution before Moslem prayers. Water Footprint was calculated from 54 students enrolled in SMAN 107 which are selected acording to simple random sampling, Cakung Jakarta Timur This study was conducted from January to February 2016. The finding indicated that there was no significantly difference between extraversion and intraversion based on their total Water Footprint value.

Abstract

The Arthropoda Phyllum is part of the Biology subject that requires an understanding of concepts. One of models for these subject is a reciprocal teaching integrated mind mapping model. This model make the students better to understand and easier to remember it for the relationship between various concepts, and their visualization and image colours. The purpose of this research was to know the effect of reciprocal teaching integrated mind mapping model application towards to student’s understanding concept on Arthropoda Phyllum. The research was conducted in SMA 105 Jakarta from February until March 2016. The research method was used a quasi-experimental with research design posttest-only control group design. Sample handling technical was used simple random sampling method. The instrument of these method was comperehension concept posttest in the form of multiple choice objective test accompanied by CRI index (Certainty of Response Index) or the scale of confidence of respondents in answering questions. Based on data analysis result, showed that data as normally distributed and homogeny. The conclusions of this research show there is effect of application reciprocal teaching integrated mind mapping model toward student’s comperehension concept on Phyllum Arthropoda.

Abstract

Conscientiousness is exhibited by those who described asdependable, organized, through and responsible. The lack of students conscientiousness make their study result on ecosystem learning of Biology subject became low. This study aims to determine correlation between conscientiousness and study result of biology students at the 38 Senior High School Jakarta in ecosystem subject. This research was held in January-February 2016. The method was used a survey method through correlative studies. The samples were 105 students from Mathematic and Science first grade. The results of normality and homogeneity test showed that data come from normal distribution of populations and homogeneous. The results of hypothesis test showed that there was significant positive correlation between conscientiousness and study result of biology students with a correlation coefficient 0,804 in the equation Ŷ = 5.663 + 0.195X. Conscientiousness contribute to study result of Biology students amounted to 64,69%.
