Abstract

This research is aimed at identifying language style used in Wayang Banyumas and describing the local wisdom reflected in the students’ performance. Local wisdom or also known as local genius may be defined as the sum of the cultural characteristics which the vast majority of a people have in common as a result of their experiences in early life. This is a descriptive qualitative research since it comes up with the identification of language style used in Wayang Banyumas. The primary data were collected from Wayang Banyumas performed by the students of State Vocational High School (SMKN) 3 Banyumas; there were five performances entitled Bilawa Rangsang, Jarasanda Lena, Abiyasa Sayembara, Gendreh Kencana, and Wisangeni Krama respectively. To complete the data, the secondary data were gained from documentation and interview with some key informants who are expert of Wayang Banyumas for enriching the data description. The results reveal several language styles used in Wayang Banyumas dominated by the finding of figurative language and phonological features. Figurative languages found are: metaphor, simile, and hyperbole while the phonological features collected are assonance (purwakanti swara) and alliteration (purwakanti sastra) which belong to repetition of vowel or consonant sounds in a sequence of nearby words. Moreover, socio-cultural values and moral messages are also reflected in wayang performance. It taught the ideal figure of leader, the excellence of deliberation or musyawarah, peaceful act, and honesty.

Abstract

Abad ke 19 merupakan periode penting dalam sejarah Amerika. Dari segi sosial politik, periode ini sangat menentukan dalam perjalanan bangsa Amerika menjadi super power di kancah global. Hal ini bisa terlihat dari ekspresi-ekspresi kultural (kesasteraan) Amerika yang merespon perubahan sosial politik yang terjadi pada saat itu. Berangkat dari fenomena diatas, tulisan ini mencoba menelaah respon kultural dari seorang penulis kenamaan Amerika yang hidup pada periode awal abad 19—Washington Irving. Tulisan ini menggunakan pendekatan “Structures of Feeling (Struktur Rasa)” dari Raymond William untuk melihat budaya yang dominan dari generasi Amerika pada periode tersebut. Dengan membatasi analisis pada 2 karya (cerpen) utama Washington Irving—The Legend of Sleepy Hollow dan Rip van Winkle—tulisan in menyimpulkan bahwa: pada cerpen pertama, Irving melihat adanya ketidakstabilan sosial dalam masyarakat Amerika di awal abad 19; sedangkan pada cerpen kedua, Irving menyoroti kecenderungan masyarakat Amerika untuk mengabaikan sejarah masa lalunya.

Abstract

Speech acts are divided into three types, namely locus speech acts, illocutionary speech acts, and perlocution speech acts. Illocutionary speech acts consist of assertive, declarative, commissive, expressive, and directive. Illocutionary can be defined as speech acts that often occur in daily interactions, one of these interactions covers the interaction between teachers and learners in educational activities in the classroom. In this activity, the teacher gives command to the students to follow the instructions. This study aims to determine the illocutionary speech acts contained in the interaction between teacher and students in using Mandarin in the classroom of D3 program of Mandarin Language, General Soedirman University, Purwokerto. This research belongs to a descriptive qualitative research. The data of this research are served in the form of speech between teacher and students during the learning of Mandarin Intermediate Conversation courses of D3 Mandarin Language Study Program UNSOED Purwokerto. The data analysis used theory of illocutionary speech acts by Austin and Searle. The data are presented in an informal form in which the data presentation and writing rules used words not numbers. The results showed that the interaction between teachers and learners in the D3 Mandarin Study Program of UNSOED Purwokerto cover assertive, declarative, commissive, expressive, and directive speech acts.

Abstract

Begalan is one of Banyumas traditions generally held in wedding ceremony in which involves several processions. As an oral tradition, this is undoubtedly rich of moral values to guide the local people in life over generation. Moreover, it contains symbolic meanings of Javanese philosophy. Begalan, thus, in the perspective of Banyumas people becomes tatanan (norm), tuntunan (guidance), and tontonan (performance) simultaneously. In regard to this, cultural-bound elements become inevitable issue particularly if it is viewed through translation studies. Accordingly, this paper is aimed at describing several cultural elements which are used in this tradition. Then some strategies dealing with transposing local cultures embodied in those elements are proposed. Among them are transference, paraphrase, and translation by icon. In the process of translating, a process of rewriting message, an appropriate strategy should be taken into account for the sake of retaining embodied moral values in each element. Moreover, the translator’s creativity becomes precious skill in coping with those elements. A creative translator would be able to produce a closest equivalence to reach the same effect as original one. In particular, this brings about the concept of begalan not only comprehended through its exhibition but also through written materials. In general, those strategies are possibly applied to transfer some similar texts for students in their learning, for teachers to teach translation and for translator for practice.

Abstract

The bestowal of Nobel Prize 2016 in Literature for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition to Bob Dylan indicated that the understanding of literature in post-modern world has begun to permeate its traditional boundary of definition.The research will deploy textual analysis approach with the focus to narratology, with conclusion base on deductive analysis on the holistic data relation. The data collecting method initiates mostly with close reading. Subsequently, those data are divided, arrange and grouped to certain criteria that support the process of analysis.Dylan’s “One More Cup of Coffee (To the Valley Below”) uniquely identifies the conventional knowledge as something that is not ultimate, instead it identifies it as something that has the value of truth which may be rivaled by other kind of system of truth. The plural existence of system of knowledge is not only acknowledge as juxtaposed entities, but even furthermore deconstructed to be something that successfully find the true essence of truth does not found in conventional system of knowledge.

Abstract

The title of the research is “the emergence of collective identity in Dablongan Banyumasan shirt industry.” The location of the research was in Banyumas Regency of Central Java Province, with the objective of descripting the emergence of collective identity through local shirt industry particularly Banyumasan special shirt of Dablongan. The politic of identity in the research would not be seen as threat, but on the contrary it is considered as opportunity in social harmonization as well as the chance to display the products of creative industries. The method of research is qualitative research method and the informan withdrawal is based on purposing sampling. The data are coming from primary data and secondary data. Data primer are gained from depth interview and observation, while secondary data are collected from documentation. The emergence of raising cultural identity through language, picture, and other designs local shirt to resurface the basic local characteristic gives positive impacts as well as the negatives. The resurgence of collective identity who are proud of their local culture gives positives influence on the existence of the local cultures in Indonesia. Nevertheless, if the sense of locality is too much, it will create contested identity with other local identities along with the forsaking of the idea that local identities are actually parts of national identity. Creative industry needs three primary actors, government, business, and intellectuals to drive the industry stay in its lane. Government needs to give guidelines and appreciation toward creative industry which able to compete to the foreign culture. The business is needed to manage the fiscal as well as the marketing of creative industry, and the intellectuals are needed to give deeper understanding on the local culture which become business opportunity but do not threat the existence of other local cultures.

Abstract

Since 1995-1996 in Parean Girang Kandanghaur Indramayu there was accident the rejecting of the pig cattle relocation. That history actually from a wish investor to make it happen in Jakarta, but because there is no area therefore overwhelmed in West Java Governance to take in Bogor, Tanggerang, Lebak, Bekasi, and also Karawang will be taken for cattle of pig, but the regents of all countries to refuse it. Therefore a side of the governor Indramayu is welcome of making permission for the investor to open the cattle of pig relocation in their country. Therefore the cattle of pig is undertaken in Indramayu actually in Parean Girang, well this moment making reaction for public in Parean Girang where unwillingness on the decision for the governor. The purpose of this thesis is to address to present Sartono Kartodirjo, history is causality contact was start from social fluctuation where making the community disturbance and social changes. On this matter comprises many factor Values, Economy, Religius, Politic, Social-culture on Social-structure. We can said that to create a Necassery Condition and Sufficient Condition. The thesis explained a comparation of these perspectives and theories responses, as follow 1) To know how well-understood backround the arise cattle of Pig in Parean Girang Kandanghaur 2) To understanding action of refusing cattle of a pig in Paren Girang Kandanghaurfor making a pig relocation. The thesis used with history of metodolgy is method to study accident in the past to purpose making reconstruction of objective and systematic history. The methods is comparations with Heuristic, Critic, Interpretation, and Historiografy. The thesis to try express well-understood being history of refusing a Pig relocation in Parean Girang since 1995-1996. Start from moving a cattle of pig relocation process from Jakarta to Indramayu where it is making polemic and protest being various community, because of Economy, Relgious, Politic, and Sosila-culture. It is making unwillingness for community, where finished on decided latter of negation from MUI No: 08/MUI-Kec/VI/1995 its sense to object to that cattle of a pig relocation. This has led community initiatives Parean Girang village District of Kandanghaur tounder take preventive measures rejecting the relocation ofpig farms. Various ways have been made include working withthe media, Ngosor Islamic organizations, issued astatement, and the demonstrations that led to the revolution in Indramayu Regional Government on 29 April 1996

Abstract

Keresahan menghinggapi para orang tua terhadap anaknya saat ini yang cenderung menunjukkan sikap dan berperilaku kurang santun dan kurang terpuji. Sementara, sikap santun, hormat, semangat kebersamaan, tenggang rasa ( tepa selira ), dan gotong royong sudah jarang diperhatikan di kalangan anak-anak muda sekarang. Memberikan penanaman budi pekerti kepada anak wajib dilakukan untuk mengatasi sikap negatif anak-anak. Penanaman nilai budi pekerti harus berjalan terpadu dan dimulai sejak anak usia dini. Sejak kecil, seharusnya anak sudah dibiasakan dengan perilaku-perilaku yang mencerminkan budi pekerti di dalam keluarga dan dibiasakan menghormat orang tua atau orang yang lebih tua. Bahasa Jawa mengandung syarat pendidikan nilai yang merupakan substansi utama dari pendidikan budi pekerti. Dalam bahasa Jawa, terkandung tata nilai kehidupan Jawa, seperti norma, keyakinan, kebiasaan, dan simbol-simbol yang hidup dan berkembang dalam masyarakat Jawa. Pendidikan budi pekerti yang digali dari substansi bahasa Jawa dapat menjadi pilar pendidikan budi pekerti bangsa. Berdasarkan latar belakang tersebut, peningkatan budi pekerti anak sekolah dasar melalui pemakaian undhausuk bahasa Jawa perlu dilakukan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan budaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan case study (studi kasus) ke lokasi penelitian. Fokus penelitian, yaitu peningkatan budi pekerti anak sekolah dasar melalui undhausuk bahasa Jawa. Data yang terkumpul akan diolah dengan menggunakan metode reduksi data, pemaparan data, kategori data, dan simpulan data. Uji mutu data dilakukan dengan menggunakan triangulasi sumber dan triangulasi metode.

Abstract

<p>The issue of cultural identity in immigrants living in the United States of America which is reflected in Kahf’s “The Girl in the Tangerine Scarf” is a valuable topic to discuss. The way how Khadra, as the main character, negotiates her identity as a Syrian-American will be analyzed by a multidisciplinary approach based on the process of developing the cultural identity in cultural studies through qualitative and content analysis. The negotiation of identity of Syrian-American has created a sense of double-consciousness in the life of this community. They experience to stand both as a Syrian and as an American. They also feel the dispersion from their original place which makes them to have memories and vision about their homeland. Moreover, the prejudices which come both from their side and the majority of American side have created a sense of not belonging to America. Moreover, through the process of acculturation, the process of negotiating identity is also shaped. This acculturation relies on 1) the loyalty to certain religion, beliefs and practices; 2) Assimilation of culture; 3) Rejection, prejudice, power and relationship between the majority and minority; 4) Gender and social class. Moreover, the process of negotiating identity engages the historical and cultural values in both the old country and the new country. From what she has learned through her life experiences in America, her process of assimilation and her memories about Syria, she comes to a decision to see that her identity as a Syrian is as important as her identity as an American. It is also as central as her identity both as a woman and as a Muslim. In conclusion, these multiple identities that she holds are perfect combination that fit her cultural identity as a Syrian-American Muslim woman. It makes her to exhibit attitudes and behaviors of openness, inclusiveness, and tolerance, such as less prejudice and to be more cooperation toward the other.</p>

Abstract

Karakter anak yang sesuai dengan prinsip pancasila harus dibentuk sejak usia dini. Generasi penerus bangsa yang mempunyai prinsip pancasila, cinta tanah air dan berbudi adalah generasi yang dibutuhkan oleh bangsa Indonesia. Hal ini merupakan tugas bagi para pendidik. Sastra yang berfungsi sebagai penghalus budi dan sangat dekat dengan kehidupan manusia merupakan media atau sarana yang membantu pendidik untuk membentuk karakter anak. Cerita rakyat adalah warisan leluhur secara turun temurun yang menggambarkan budaya, adat-istiadat, suku serta agama tiap daerah di Indonesia. Wilayah Indonesia dari sabang sampai merauke memiliki cerita rakyatnya sendiri. Melalui cerita rakyat anak dapat mengenal kepribadian Indonesia dan secara tidak langsung dapat menanamkan karakter yang sesuai dengan prinsip Pancasila.
