Jurnal Pemberdayaan Masyarakat: Media Pemikiran dan Dakwah Pembangunan (ISSN : (p) 2580-863X | (e) 2597-7768 ) is a peer-reviewed journal published and managed by Islamic Community Development, Faculty of Da'wah and Communication, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta in collaboration with Asosiasi Pembangunan Sosial Indonesia (APSI) and Perkumpulan Pengembangan Masyarakat Islam (P2MI). This scientific journal specifically addresses findings, new methods, and research experiences on Muslim society development. This journal includes, but not limited to, research in social policy of development, community-based tourism, Islamic philanthropy of development, and Islamic community development. The journal has been indexed in DOAJ and accredited by the Indonesian Ministry of Research Technology and ranked Sinta 2 (second grade) by Science and Technology Index.

Abstract

Since the independence of Indonesia, many problems have always been discussed. Poverty and inequality are one of those problems that existed and have been solved since almost eight decades ago. The government has been trying to make the country better through development that emphasizes economic improvement. Unfortunately, economic development creates another social problem: the gap between the “haves” and the “have-nots.” Social and economic disparities could cause social disintegration. The main dispute is not merely in the poverty itself, but how the stakeholders respond to poverty. This article examines the problems of poverty from the community integration point of view. We found how communities can become separated from each other due to various factors such a physical, social, and economic barriers. It outlines the challenges faced in addressing social disintegration through the children's learning house program which is based on community-based action research.

Abstract

This paper aims to revive the discussion on river-based tourism, highlighting its implications for sustainable social development. It is based on an analysis of various studies that have shown a focus on new patterns and strategies for sustainable development in river-based tourism. However, little attention has been given to further exploring these sustainability tools through achieving harmony between human and natural elements. The study adopts a case study approach, focusing on Temulus Village in Indonesia. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and field documentation. The research findings demonstrate that prioritizing the segmentation of river-based tourism development as a key agenda in social development holds intrinsic value as a new tool in transforming rural communities. The research successfully uncovers the harmonious relationship between human interests and nature, thereby contributing to sustainable development through river tourism. Consequently, this study contributes to leveraging local resources for sustainable development, introducing new local indicators that can serve as valuable lessons for future village development.

Abstract

This study aims to assess community resources for development and to pinpoint the challenges faced by palm sugar micro-businesses. A qualitative approach was used, involving ten participants. Data was gathered through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results reveal a strong sense of community and a significant entrepreneurial drive among residents. However, there is untapped potential in environmental resources for land development that could support the cultivation of sugar palm trees, which are currently endangered. On the other hand, economic resources, such as the palm sugar marketing network, production enhancement, and sourcing of raw materials, are underdeveloped due to community isolation, reliance on traditional markets, and a lack of knowledge about digital marketing. The lack of management institutions, capacity-building programs, social network support, and government assistance greatly hinders the growth of these resources and the micro-businesses. To improve the capabilities of palm sugar micro-entrepreneurs in Sukamantri Village, it is crucial to tackle several key issues, including poor business management practices, weaknesses in local institutions, limited networking opportunities, and challenges related to funding and support. The researchers suggest that local government and the private sector should focus on support programs, enhancing the management and production processes of palm sugar micro-enterprises.

Abstract

This research is motivated by an interest in the economic empowerment program implemented by the Pasaran Island Fishermen Group, Kota Karang Village, Bandar Lampung City. The purpose of this research is to find out how the pattern of community empowerment through fishermen groups in improving the economy on Pasaran Island, Bandar Lampung. This research uses qualitative methods, namely data obtained by observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that in an effort to develop the economy of fishermen on Pasaran Island, several strategies are used which include education and training patterns, counseling and mentoring patterns, and fisheries business partnership patterns, with the main strategy emphasized is the provision of assistance from the government for fishermen. Empowerment through fishing groups is able to respond to local conditions because what they do gives very positive results and is able to improve the economy of the community on Pasaran Island.

Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the digital divide and to classify social class as a significant indicator in the context of rural development. The study employed secondary data analysis derived from the Data Desa Presisi (DDP). The researcher meticulously analyzed and reinterpreted statistical data to identify new potential avenues for development planning, with a particular focus on Neglasari Village. The findings indicate that the predominant social class in the research area consists largely of lower-class individuals or casual laborers, who are categorized as impoverished in terms of rural development. This categorization aligns with the conclusion that poverty, as revealed through social class mapping, contributes to the digital divide, which is predominantly influenced by the upper social class. Consequently, this dynamic tends to create a segmentation of development information at the initial level. Conversely, it is noteworthy that the lower class exhibits the highest purchasing power for communication expenses, raising questions about the effectiveness and utility of network access and communication costs. This study serves as a valuable resource for village development planners, emphasizing the importance of considering the dynamics of social class, the implications of the digital divide, and the necessity for evaluative and accountable development monitoring models in the distribution of targeted programs.

Abstract

Dompet Dhuafa Riau’s transition to digital philanthropic management has significantly increased voluntary donations, addressing the concerns of digital philanthropy scholars about the impact of technology on philanthropic interactions. This research aims to uncover the practical mechanisms employed by Dompet Dhuafa Riau in transforming into a digital media-utilizing philanthropic institution. Using a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, the study reveals a well-established transition pattern that integrates elements of traditional philanthropy into digital activities. Digital media serves as a tool to facilitate voluntary donations from donors, effectively addressing trust issues commonly associated with transitioning to online platforms by ensuring fund allocation emphasizes sustainability. Service, mentoring, and training mechanisms further enhance Dompet Dhuafa Riau’s credibility as a reliable philanthropic institution, strengthening donor confidence and encouraging continued donations. This shift demonstrates that incorporating media into the management of philanthropic organizations creates a complex relationship between philanthropic institutions and the public, mediated by the unique dynamics of digital platforms.
