Abstract

The aim of this study was to make tenses compilation using a video in a film entitled Penguins of Madagascar. The method used in this study was a descriptive research. This video was created by using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017 program. There were several steps in making this video, including: collecting the materials, recording the voice, converting the files and editing the video The result of this study was a video of tenses compilation with English subtitle for learning English. The duration of the video was about ten minutes 40 second starting from the beginning until closing. There were pictures, audio, video and some informations about Penguins of Madagascar. This product is hoped to help students in learning  grammar especially tenses in easy way and fun and would become one of interesting teaching materials for English teachers in teaching English

Abstract

The aim of this study was to make a video to promote Rupat Island to the international tourists as a tourism destination. The method used in this study was a descriptive research. There were several steps in making this video; starting from collecting the materials, creating the video script, shooting process, recording the voice for the video. converting the files, until editing the video. The result of this study is a promotional video narrated in English that contains both natural and cultural tourism objects and attractions in Rupat Island such as: Beting Aceh Beach, Lapin Beach, Makeruh Beach, Suku Akit Tradition, Mandi Safar Festival, Zapin Api Dance, etc. This video is expected to help the government of Bengkalis Regency in promoting Rupat Island as a tourism destination in the future.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to make  learning English adjective comparison with Harry Potter movie. The method  of  this  study  is  descriptive  research.  There were  four processes in making the learning video. The first was collecting materials and planning the video, the second was writing the video script, the third was editing the video and the last was making the subtitle. The result of the study was an 18 minute Video about English adjective comparison with Harry Potter movies.  It consists of introduction, the nature of adjective comparison, kinds of adjective comparison and the examples taken  from movie scenes for. This video is a good alternative for learner to learn about adjective comparison from movie.

Abstract

Abstract : Vocabulary is an essential part of English learning. Mastering English words help students acquire the language. However, many teachers still use traditional ways in teaching Vocabulary. They only refer to text books and ask students to remember words without using any media. Lack of teaching media makes students feel boring and not interested in learning English. It is also hard for students to understand the language. The research question was “Is there a Wheel Game to learn Vocabulary for junior high school Students? The objective of this study was to make Vocabulary Wheel Game for Junior high school students. The method used in this study was descriptive research. It explained the problem qualitatively to uncover solutions. This product is an adaptation of wheel of fortune game. Its colorful design and a lot of pictures can attract students to learn vocabulary in a fun way. As mentioned above, the model of wheel already exists. However, the whole model, wheel, color, and the pictures were designed using tools from several applications and were made of wooden and paper material. The wheel in this game has sectors and each sector uses 26 alphabets. This game uses one type of card, called penalty card, which contain a lot of interesting pictures. Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this study was to identify the types of corrective feedback used by the 4 lecturers in correcting students’ speaking performance This was descriptive research. The participants were 4 English lecturers who handled speaking class for the first year students at IAIN Batusangkar. Seven major types of corrective feedback which was initially conceived by Fanselowand  is further developed by Lyster and Ranta, and Sheen and Yao become the grand theory in this study.The data were gathered by means of observation, video recording and guided interview. The observation and interview results demonstrate that of the seven types of the corrective feedback applied by the 4 lecturers on students’ speaking performance, recast feedback is the most frequently used. Most theories and previousfindings signify that it cannot locate the errors and it is not appropriate for EFL students. It is concluded that the type of corrective feedback that mostly used by the lecturers has not appropriate yet. That was estimated becomes the cause why the corrective feedback was not successful yet. It is recommended that those lecturers try to reconsider the  type of  corrective feedback which he or she frequently used  since the appropriateness of  type will influence the success of corrective feedback itself

Abstract

The aim purpose of this research was to determine how the contribution of students’ motivation toward learner autonomy for non-English major students of the Islamic University of Indragiri. It was correlational research. Population and Sample in this research were 34 students, which were selected by total sampling technique. They are second-semester students of Accounting Major of the Islamic University of Indragiri. Data collecting technique used the questionnaire in the two variables. Then the research results show that the value of students motivation is 81.62, which covered the indicators of Anxiety (81.87%), Interest (80.16%), Teacher (82.55%). Those are categorized as a strong/high category. Then the result of learner autonomy 80.18, that included Learner Strategy (79.12%), Meta-Cognitive (81.33%), Learner Attitude (80.16%). Those are also classified as a strong/high category. Moreover, the result of correlation both of variables is robserved 0.838, which is categorized as very high correlation, and r table (1%=0.349 and 5%=0.449). Thus, robserved > rtable. It means that Ho is Rejected and Ha is Accepted. In other words, there is a positive correlation between motivation and learner autonomy for non-English major students. From the analysis of the determination coefficient, it obviously found that motivation contributes positively to learner autonomy as much as 70.22%, and the others percent (29.78%) is determined by other aspects. It implies that the higher the students have motivation in learning English, the better they will have learning autonomy.

Abstract

Abstract: This study tries to find out which components of Public Speaking actually make the students interested in English speech and English teaching. This is a descriptive qualitative study where the data for the research were collected through a self-administered questionnaire distributed to all students of the fourth semester at English Study Program of State Polytechnic of Bengkalis – Riau.  The technique used to collect the data was done by asking the students to watch a video of a speech and then answer the questionnaire given. The questionnaire was set based on relevant literature review and also focused on condition of the students based on daily observation done by the writer during his teaching Public Speaking subject to the students. After collecting the data, the writer sorted the data by summarizing and choosing the specific category, displaying and verifying the data analysis and making the conclusion from the finding data. The findings of this research are hoped to give another point of view to English lecturers to realize certain parts of teaching that actually can make it more interesting for the students. The result of this study shows that Story Telling and Body Language performed by a speaker or a lecturer are among the most interesting aspects that make them interested in an English speech or teaching. Beside, this study also reveals that lack of Pauses and Visual Aids performed by the lecturers make their teaching become less interesting.

Abstract

Abstract: The problems of gender are occurred in almost all aspects of social real-life. In fact, discourse is also reflected in textbooks used by schools. In a specific talk, there are various perspectives presented to address gender particularly gender bias in textbook suchas through typology (initiated dialogues, turn-taking, number of characters, word used, and by analyzing text, illustration and pictureswhich coin with gender representative available in textbooksinvolving gender visibility (male or female) and gender stereotype. Accordingly, this paper is aiming at presenting and elaborating on kinds of over-representation of female and male characters that might be occurred and its pedagogical impact after understanding the issue of gender in textbooks.  Key words: Gender bias, stereotype, characters, textbooks

Abstract

Abstract: Bengkalis is one of the districts in Riau Province, Indonesia. One of heritage from Bengkalis  culture named Zapin dance. Zapin dance was originally brought from Yaman by merchants in early 16th century and this dance also educative entertainment. The advanced of technology develop this Zapin dance in the form  of video as media. The available videos on website only show the movement of the dance and this video show the history of the dance in Bahasa Indonesia. Therefore, the writer is interested in making of profile video of Zapin dance in English. Zapin dance was made as attractive as possible different from other videos and when people watch this video, they will be not bored. Besides that, this video not only can be used in Indonesia but abroad especially for foreigner who learns Zapin. This video equipped with profile pictures Zapin dance and types of Zapin Dance. For the tourism department, profile video of Zapin dance can help departments to  promote Zapin dance for whole society not only in Bengkalis but abroad. Keywords: Bengkalis, Video Profile, Zapin Dance
