Abstract

Eco-enzyme is a fermented product from an organic waste substrate, molasses, and water. Eco-enzyme can be used as antibacterial because it produces organic compounds such as alcohol and acetic acid. Pineapple peel waste (Ananas comosus L.) can be used as an eco-enzyme. This study aimed to test the antibacterial activity of pineapple peel eco enzyme against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The study used the method of determining the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Killing Concentration (MBC) of pineapple peel eco-enzyme with 8 treatment levels namely negative control (aquadest), positive control (ciprofloxacin 5 mg/mL), 3.125%, 6.25 %, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, and 100% eco-enzymes. Based on the research results, it was known that the MIC value of pineapple peel eco-enzyme against P. aeruginosa, and S. epidermidis was 12.5% and 3.125%, respectively. Eco- enzymes from pineapple peel did not show minimum killing concentrations. Eco-enzyme of pineapple peel is only bacteriostatic towards the growth of P. aeruginosa and S. epidermidis bacteria.

Abstract

Mangroves are a unique ecosystem because they live in two transition zones, always green, and tolerant of salt. However, globally it is under serious threat due to environmental issues that are closely related to deforestation and degradation of mangrove forests. Mangrove ecological services as a carbon sink can help mitigate climate change and global warming. This capability has not been utilized optimally, especially in NTB, specifically Gili Sulat, which has natural mangrove forests. Therefore, this research aims to identify, explain, describe, and understand the carbon content of trees in mangrove species in Gili Sulat. The station determination method is done by purposive sampling. The sampling technique for carbon content was carried out using a non-destructive method, namely measuring the diameter at breast height and tree height. The results of the study found nine mangrove species in the tree category where the highest potential carbon content was found in the species Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, namely 0.285 ton C/ha and 183.255 ton C/643 ha, and the lowest was found in the species Exoecaria agallocha, namely 0.010 ton C/ha and 6.430 ton C/643 Ha. Meanwhile, the total biomass, carbon content, and carbon dioxide absorption of mangrove species in Gili Sulat were 661.004 tonnes/643ha, 331.145 tonnes C/643 ha, and 1212.698 tonnes CO2/643 ha respectively. The high potential carbon content of mangrove tree species in Gili Sulat proves that the ecological services of Gili Sulat's mangroves have a positive impact on climate change mitigation and global warming.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems have an important role in coastal areas. One of the roles of mangroves is to protect the shoreline and prevent seawater intrusion. Molluscs are one of the mangrove association biota whose lives are influenced by the presence of mangrove forests. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of molluscs and the relationship between mangrove density and limiting molluscs to the coastal mangrove area of Gerupuk Beach, Central Lombok. Sampling of molluscs used the quadrate sampling method with purposive sampling by taking into account the mangrove species found in the observation plots. The data obtained were then analyzed with the charisma index, associations, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results of this study obtained 13 species of Molluscs consisting of 12 species of the Gastropod family and 1 species of the Bivalvia family. The Brachyura diversity index at the research station was moderate with a value between 1.48–1.88. Furthermore, there were 8 species of Molluscs associated with 4 species of mangrove from 13 species of Molluscs found. The linear regression equation y = 0.1429x + 0.0007 with a Pearson correlation coefficient (r) of 0.57 indicates a strong relationship between the independent variable (x) mangrove density and the dependent variable (y) exposure to molluscs. The conclusion of this study is that the diversity of molluscs in the mangrove area of Gerupuk Beach is included in the moderate category and there is a significant relationship between mangrove density and mollusk attractions.
