Abstract

The practice of polygamy carried out in the pre-Islamic era greatly degraded the dignity of women, and the Qur'an came down with a revolutionary movement to regulate societal order. Thus, according to Sharia, this practice has legal standing in Islam.  However, on the other hand, there are conditions set by the prospective wife to not be polygamized, which seem to contradict the Sharia. This study is a qualitative research, using a descriptive-analytical approach with the library research method.  The research results show that polygamy is a small emergency door that may be used in extremely urgent conditions, of course with strict conditions.  In the historical context, polygamy was practiced to address social problems such as the protection of orphans' wealth and the protection of widows. Therefore, if polygamy does not function to improve social problems or even creates new social issues, then the practice of polygamy should not be carried out.  Thus, the condition of not practicing polygamy set by the prospective wife can be fulfilled without causing the marriage contract and dowry to be invalidated in the future, provided that the wife can still perform her duties and functions as a wife. Thus, harmony and peace in the household, which are the goals of a marriage, can be realized.

Abstract

Education is a crucial issue in human life, from birth to the end of our lives on this earth. Humans were created as the most noble of creatures, as recipients and implementers of teachings. Humans are endowed with the natural instinct to resist evil. However, education has so far been perceived as focusing solely on intellectual potential and paying little attention to emotional or spiritual development. This can result in individuals who are intellectually intelligent but possess poor character, leading to numerous deviant behaviors. This study aims to determine the implementation of leadership character formation at the Al Hikamussalafiyah Cipulus Purwakarta Islamic Boarding School, and to examine the results of leadership character formation through the Musabaqoh Akhirussanah (Education Week) at the Al Hikamussalafiyah Cipulus Purwakarta Islamic Boarding School. This research method uses qualitative research with a descriptive approach to determine and understand the implementation of leadership character formation at the Al Hikamussalafiyah Cipulus Purwakarta Islamic Boarding School. Data collection was conducted through observation and interviews. The research results show that the overall implementation fostered responsible, independent, courageous, disciplined, intelligent, and tolerant character development. The experience gained included additional character development, including religious attitudes, congregational prayer, Dhuha prayer, honesty, tolerance, independence, responsibility, intelligence, and the ability to interact effectively and communicate effectively, all of which contribute to a harmonious atmosphere.

Abstract

The global water crisis has become an urgent issue demanding responses from various disciplines, including Islamic law. Water wastage (israf al-ma’), as one of the contributors to this crisis, represents both an ethical-theological and ecological problem. This article aims to analyze the istinbat (legal derivation) methodology used to determine the ruling on water wastage, with a case study of the work of Dr. Sa'd bin Nashir asy-Syatsri. Using a qualitative content analysis method applied to the text “Application of the Principles of Ushul Fiqh to the Ruling on Israf (Excessiveness) in Water Usage,” this study maps the framework of Islamic jurisprudence in responding to the issue of excessive consumption. The results show that the establishment of the prohibition (tahrim) on water wastage is based on a solid argument, derived from 27 shar‘i evidences through the application of 13 ushul fiqh principles. These principles include dalalah lafziyyah (such as al-nahy yadullu ‘ala at-tahrim and al-wa‘id yadullu ‘ala at-tahrim), dalalah ma‘nawiyyah (such as mafhum muwafaqah and mafhum mukhalafah), as well as maqasid-based principles (such as ad-dawran ma‘al ‘illah and the prohibition of violating collective rights). This study affirms that ushul fiqh possesses a rich methodological capacity to provide normative foundations for addressing contemporary ecological challenges.

Abstract

The criterion of al-‘adalah is a fundamental requirement in determining the reliability of hadith transmitters, as it directly relates to a person’s moral and religious integrity in narration. However, interpretations of al-‘adalah vary among classical and contemporary scholars. This study aims to critically analyze the concept of al-‘adalah in hadith studies and assess its relevance in modern scholarly contexts. Using a qualitative-descriptive method with content analysis, this research examines classical hadith scholars such as al-Khatib al-Baghdadi and Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, and compares their views with modern perspectives. The findings reveal that al-‘adalah is shaped not only by personal morality but also by social evaluation and the perception of scholarly communities at the time. The study concludes that the standard of al-‘adalah in hadith science is dynamic and requires reinterpretation to remain relevant in assessing hadith authenticity in the modern era, while allowing room for integration between normative and critical approaches.

Abstract

This paper discusses the concept of ʿIllat Idraj, one of the subjects in the science of hadith, which refers to a hidden defect involving the insertion of the narrator’s own wording into the text of a hadith, thus causing confusion between the narrator’s words and the original text of the hadith. Idraj constitutes a form of ʿillah that can undermine the quality of a hadith, rendering a narration that appears authentic to actually be weak upon deeper examination. This study explains the definition, classification, and impact of ʿIllat Idraj in determining the authenticity status of hadiths. Examples of hadiths with ʿIllat Idraj are provided to clarify this phenomenon. The method employed is library research, involving critical analysis of both the chain of transmission (isnad) and the content (matan). The findings indicate that understanding ʿIllat Idraj is crucial for verifying the quality of hadiths and for advancing scientific methodology in hadith research.

Abstract

Hadith Criticism (Naqd al-Ḥadīṡ) is an important discipline developed by scholars to examine and verify the authenticity of narrations claimed to originate from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Its main objective is to differentiate between Sahih (authentic) hadiths and Da'if (weak) or Mawdhu' (forged) hadiths. This research aims to analyze and compile the practical stages of Hadith Criticism so that it is easily understood by beginner students. By using a descriptive-analytical literature review method on the foundational books of Hadith science, this research summarizes the criticism process. This research shows that Hadith Criticism is an integrated, two-dimensional process. First, Sanad Criticism (Chain of Narration), where the Hadith must fulfill five main conditions (the chain is connected, the narrator is just ('ādil), ḍābiṭ (strong in memory), is not shādhdh (anomalous), and is not mu'allal (possessing a hidden defect)). Second, Matn Criticism (Hadith Content): Examining the conformity of the hadith's content with the Qur'an and established principles of Shari'ah. The conclusion of this research is that the systematic understanding and application of the Hadith Criticism methodology are fundamental prerequisites in Islamic studies. This research contributes by presenting this complex methodology as a step-by-step guide to enhance the students' ability to filter and accept the pure Sunnah of the Prophet.
