Abstract

“Jantan” banana (Musa acuminata Colla) and “selengek” fish (Anodontostoma chacunda) have high nutritional value, so they have the potential to be used as additional ingredients in cookie processing. This study aimed to analyse the quality characteristics of banana flour and selengek fish flour-based cookies. The research design used was factorial with variations in the composition of male banana flour and “selengek” fish flour, namely 75: 25, 80 : 20, 85 : 15, 90 : 10, 95 : 5, and 100 : 0. Chemical analysis (moisture content, protein content, and fibre content) and organoleptic test (colour, taste, aroma, and texture) were conducted on the cookies produced. Processing of cookies with the addition of male banana flour and selengek fish flour produced cookies with yields between 40.58% to 41.20%, moisture content between 6.11% to 8.58%, protein content 4.23% to 5.69%, and fibre content 5.00% to 6.19%. Sensory test analysis showed that panelists' hedonic level for banana flour and “selengek” fishmeal cookies ranged from 3.35 to 2.40 for colour parameters, 2.40 to 3.70 for taste parameters, 2.90 to 4.04 for texture and 2.40 to 3.35 for aroma parameters.

Abstract

The availability of clean water is a vital element in the operational processes of palm oil mills, serving both processing and domestic needs. PT. PKIS operates a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to treat raw water from reservoirs into clean water that meets quality standards. However, the existing manual monitoring system for water quality poses a risk of delays in detecting fluctuations in critical parameters such as pH and turbidity. This study aims to design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based water quality monitoring system capable of real-time monitoring of pH and turbidity parameters. The system design was conducted over five months within the industrial environment of PT. PKIS, utilizing pH and turbidity sensors integrated with an ESP32 microcontroller and the Blynk application platform for data visualization. The testing results indicate that the pH sensor demonstrates a satisfactory accuracy level with a margin of error of 2,20%, while the turbidity sensor exhibits suboptimal performance with a margin of error of 1,30%. The implementation of this system is expected to enhance the effectiveness of water quality monitoring, expedite decision-making processes, and ensure that the treated water meets the established standards, thereby supporting the sustainability of palm oil industry operations.

Abstract

As the main producing area, processing dried octopus in Kaur Regency still relies on traditional drying methods, which have various weaknesses. This study aims to analyse dried octopus's chemical characteristics (moisture, ash, and fat content) using a hybrid solar-biomass dryer. The experimental design used a Completely Randomised Design (CRD) with two factors, namely wood biomass feed (4 kg and 5 kg) and octopus body parts (head, swim membrane, upper arm, middle arm, and lower arm). The results showed that the moisture content of the final product ranged from 14.83-15.93% and met the SNI 2719-2017 standard (≤20%), without being significantly affected by the treatments given. The ash content (3.33-5.46%) was significantly affected by both treatment factors but still met the quality standard (≤7%), with the highest value in the head. Fat content (10.28-19.11%) was mainly influenced by body part and its interaction with biomass feed, with the highest distribution in the head and swimming membrane.

Abstract

The demand for environmentally friendly alternative energy continues to increase in line with the depletion of fossil fuel availability and its environmental impacts. One potential solution is the utilization of biomass-based bio briquettes as a renewable energy source. This study aims to evaluate the quality of biobriquettes through seven key parameters, namely moisture content, ash content, density, volatile matter, burning rate, calorific value, and emission test, which were compared to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) as well as firewood combustion results. A quantitative descriptive method was employed using three formulations with three replications. The results showed that the moisture content (10.00–13.33%) and ash content (10–15.67%) met the requirements of SNI 4931:2010. The density of the bio briquettes (0.42–0.552 g/cm³) indicated a reasonably good compactness although no SNI reference is available for density. However, the volatile matter content remained considerably high (65.33–76.33%), exceeding the SNI threshold of <22%. The burning rate ranged from 0.0058–0.0066 g/s with stable combustion characteristics. The calorific value of the bio briquettes was between 2760.21–3387.41 Cal/g, while emission tests showed the highest CO concentration at 0.86% in FP1, CO₂ at 3.37% in FP2, O₂ at 20.95% in FP2, and HC at 139.33 ppm in FP1.

Abstract

PT. XYZ is a palm oil processing enterprise.  The products produced are crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel oil (PKO).  The level of oil loss in PT. XYZ Empty Bunch Press should not exceed 0.90%, but there has been a significant increase in the last three months, exceeding the company's guidelines.  This disease may have an impact on CPO production output.  As a result, this study was done to investigate oil loss in empty bunch presses.  The method employed is Statistical Process Control (SPC), which employs three tools: a checksheet, histogram for data distribution, and fishbone diagram to aid in understanding and fixing the problems encountered.  The largest oil loss is 1.56%, which surpasses the Company's requirement of 0.9%. In order to achieve the required standards, suggestions for improvement must be made using a fishbone diagram that incorporates human, machine, method, and raw material aspects.

Abstract

Forecasting analysis was used to predict the availability of Robusta coffee in Lampung as a basis for developing innovative coffee-based products, such as spiced coffee. Furthermore, financial analysis was conducted to assess the feasibility of processing spiced coffee as a regional flagship product. This research was conducted through a literature study from various sources, and data analysis was performed using POM-QM for Windows Version 3 software. The results of the study show that Robusta coffee production in Lampung tends to be stable from 2022 to 2026. In 2026, Robusta coffee production in Lampung will reach 116,272 tons. Financial analysis shows feasibility with an NPV of IDR 167,473,835.26, IRR of 222%, Net B/C of 2.76, Gross B/C of 1.26, and a PBP of 1 year. The investment can be recouped in 2 years, making the spice coffee home industry a viable venture to develop.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of oxygen absorber on the color stability of gelamai. It evaluates changes in chroma and hue angle using the CIE Lab color system under two types of packaging (PE and vacuum) and two storage temperatures (room temperature and freezer) during 8 days. The colour changes observed in the samples were caused by oxidation. Throughout storage, the oxygen absorber reduces or retardes oxidative reactions. These findings revealed that vacuum packaging slowed colour changes more effectively than PE packaging, especially at room temperature, while freezer storage produced more complex and nonlinear patterns, likely due to physicochemical interactions. Kinetic analysis disclosed a difference in reaction rate constants (k) between packaging and temperature conditions, vacuum packaging disclosed lower kinetic value and more stable color than other conditions. PE room temp (R² = 0.9311), Vacuum room temp (R² = 0.5776), PE freezer (R² = 0.5847), Vacuum freezer (R² = 0.7258). Statistically disclosed no significant difference in all treatments. This study concludes that oxygen absorbers are effective in preserving the color quality of gelamai during storage.
