Abstract

This study aims to analyze the language attitudes of Indonesian Language Pre-service Teacher Education (PPG) students, Batch 1, 2023, at Universitas Pasundan, towards the preservation of the Sundanese language. This research used a descriptive quantitative method, with data collected through questionnaires distributed to 20 students. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to depict students’ attitudes in three aspects of language attitudes: loyalty, pride, and awareness of language norms. The results showed that students' attitudes towards the Sundanese language were more positive in family and neighborhood contexts but declined in educational and technological contexts. In general, students displayed a positive attitude towards the Indonesian language and favored foreign languages in formal and digital communication. These findings indicate that efforts to preserve the Sundanese language require more attention in educational and technological realms to prevent it from being overshadowed by the dominance of national and international languages.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the Johny Johny Yes Papa song on YouTube on early childhood English vocabulary acquisition. The purpose of this research is to analyze vocabulary improvement through engaging audio-visual exposure. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study employs participant observation, parent interviews, and content analysis. The findings indicate that children who frequently watch this content are able to imitate words such as "yes," "no," "sugar," and "papa" and use these words in everyday contexts. Engaging visuals and repetition in the video help support vocabulary internalization. The study concludes that digital media like YouTube can effectively introduce a second language to young children through consistent exposure that aligns with their level of comprehension.

Abstract

Novels, especially Dutch East Indies literature, depict the long history of Dutch colonization in Indonesia. Dutch East Indies literature is simply Dutch-language literature that talks about the Dutch East Indies at the time. The book Permulaan Sebuah Musim Baru di Suriname tells the story of Werk, an often dishonest job seeker who often recruits contract workers. In addition, they also often use mysticism and the occult to participate in the selection process. Prospective workers are often attracted by grandiose promises. Groups of workers also come from India and China. This is a very colorful part of Surinamese society. The researcher uses a social approach to investigate the novel whether there is no effort in life resistance. The researcher used a sociological approach to observe that even though the community already knew what was happening abroad, they did not make an initial protest. In this study, qualitative descriptive analysis was used to provide detailed explanations, including quotes and data relating to the subject matter of the novel. Keywords: Java Etnicity, Hindia Belanda, Resistant.

Abstract

This study analyzes the completeness of the 5W+1H news elements and the effectiveness of sentence structure in the online news article "Reasons 19 UNIKA Santo Thomas Students Were Suspended and Expelled." The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with text analysis. Data were obtained from a news article published by Tribun Medan (December 11, 2023), which discusses disciplinary actions against 19 students due to demonstrations. Data collection techniques include reading and observing, while data analysis applies the 5W+1H framework and syntactic evaluation based on the S-P-O-K pattern. The findings reveal that the news article includes all 5W+1H elements but has some shortcomings, such as a lack of details on student violations, minimal perspectives from affected students, and potential bias favoring the university’s stance. Sentence structure analysis indicates that most sentences follow the S-P-O-K pattern, although some inefficiencies in information delivery were found. This study highlights the importance of news completeness and sentence clarity in ensuring objective information delivery. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for journalists and academics in enhancing the quality of more informative and balanced news writing.
