Abstract

This paper investigates the effectiveness of teaching recount texts using a genre-based approach on Islamic boarding school students. The research adopts a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method, specifically the One-Group Pre-test-Post-test Design. The sample consists of 10 students from Class VIII of MTs SA Miftahul Huda Pabelan, which was selected based on specific criteria. The data were analyzed using the Paired Sample Test, which resulted in a significance value (Sig.) of 0.000. Based on the predetermined criteria, a significance value below 0.05 leads to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). In addition, there is a significant difference in the average scores between the Pre-test and Post-test, which were a pre-test mean score of 58.6 and a post-test mean score of 68.6. These findings indicate the effectiveness of the genre-based approach in improving students' skills to write recount texts in the boarding school context. In conclusion, the genre-based approach is effective in enhancing students' writing skills in the recount texts in the boarding school based on the findings.

Abstract

This paper describes the concept of differentiated learning as a learning diversity solution in the classroom. Differentiated learning was launched simultaneously with independent learning (Merdeka Belajar), which has started to be implemented in elementary schools. The main feature of differentiated learning is to interpret every diversity possessed by students to be facilitated properly in learning activities. Differentiated learning refers to modifying the process of education and learning in the classroom to fulfill the learning needs of each student. Based on the implementation, the teacher must be able to consider that each student in the class has diverse and unique learning needs. Differentiated learning consists of the differentiation of content, processes, and learning products. Therefore, students must have broad opportunities to be able to demonstrate what they have learned in the learning process, which is carried out according to their learning needs. The research method used is literature review research. Data collection techniques are carried out by searching data through various sources, either papers, books, articles, or journals. The research results indicate that differentiated learning is considered to be able to facilitate the students’ diversity through a set of learning activities, which is based on the content, context, and product.

Abstract

This paper investigates code-switching based on the types and functions in Daniel Mananta Network YouTube Channel while interacting with each other in informal situations. A qualitative approach was applied to the descriptive study in this paper. The data were gathered through a qualitative method by observing and transcribing the selected YouTube videos. The researcher transcribed, coded, analyzed, and classified the gathered data as the main instrument to determine the classifications and functions of code-switching. The study focused on the classifications and functions of code-switching used within Indonesian-based conversation. The sample of the study involved 10 video playlists of Daniel Tetangga Kamu on the Daniel Mananta Network YouTube Channel. The duration of the 10 videos is 12 hours and 53 minutes. The findings indicate that the Daniel Mananta Network YouTube Channel’s participants frequently used intra-sentential code-switching rather than inter-sentential code-switching, tag switching, and intra-word code-switching. In addition, the researcher also found a new phenomenon of code-switching that emerged where intra-sentential code-switching occurred within inter-sentential code-switching. The findings of the study are not only code-switching but also code-mixing, which is a reduplication that occurred due to the common usage in Indonesian speech. Subsequently, the most frequent function of code-switching used by the participants in the Daniel Mananta Network YouTube Channel is lexical need. Furthermore, the participants in Daniel Mananta Network YouTube Channel code-switch are not only from Indonesian to English but also from English to Indonesian in the Indonesian-based conversation.

Abstract

Learning to write for some students is still difficult. Writing requires practice and skill acquisition like vocabulary. Appropriate and effective methods also determine the success of learning to write. One method that emphasizes collaborative learning is the picture-to-picture cooperative method. The research in this paper used the Kemmis and McTaggart classroom action methods through action, observation, and reflection. The students who participated were 37 students in class 9 of Mts Nurul Hikmah Bekasi. The research used 2 cycles. In the first and second cycles, the researcher provided explanatory writing material through the picture-to-picture method. The theme of the picture is the picture of natural phenomena. There is an increase of 3 points between cycles 1 and 2. Learning to write through the picture-to-picture method can improve the results of students' ability to write explanatory texts. Teachers are expected to be able to complete this method with several other media, such as augmented reality applications, power points, and several other media. Hence, there are variations in teaching in the classroom.
