This qualitative and descriptive study examines the manifestations of social solidarity within the fishermen's activities. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation, with research informants selected through purposive sampling. Analysis involves data reduction, presentation, and verification. The findings reveal two forms of solidarity: (1) Cooperative solidarity, evident during fishing trips, and (2) collaborative solidarity, observed during activities such as boat repairs, net mending, coastal area cleaning, and providing assistance at sea. This research sheds light on the importance of social solidarity in enhancing the efficiency and well-being of the fishing community. In addition to highlighting the diverse forms of solidarity within the fishing community, this research offers valuable insights for policymakers, community leaders, and fisheries management. Understanding the dynamics of social solidarity among fishermen can lead to more effective support and resource allocation.

Abstract

This study is a novel attempt to examine the theme of nature in the poetry of John Keats and Abu Al-Qasim Al-Shabbi since nature is of great importance in Romantic poetry whether Arabic or English. The objective of the present study is to investigate the concept of nature in some selected poems by Keats and Al-Shabbi. The study has proposed that there is a relationship between nature in Arabic poetry and English poetry since Al-Shabbi was influenced by English romantics like Wordsworth, Shelley and Keats through some translations of their poetry. Keats and Al-Shabbi are celebrated poets in English and Arabic Romantic literature. Although they died young at 25 and had only a few years of experience with poetry, they wrote the most beautiful poems that revealed their poetic abilities which were sufficient to rank them among the greatest poets. The study has adopted the qualitative, analytical and comparative approach. The study concluded that there is a similarity between Al-Shabbi and Keats because they belong to the same poetic trend. For Keats, the natural world represents an ideal environment and a source of beauty and truth. For Al-Shabbi, nature represents the spiritual unity between man and nature and a refuge from the cruelty of the city and the anxieties of life. Both Keats and Al-Shabbi found a solace in nature due to their identical suffering; Keats of physical illness of TB and Al-Shabbi of heart disease. Accordingly, they escaped to nature to forget their worries.

Abstract

Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is an adventure story that appeals to children as well as adults. While children are interested in the surface humour, adults are interested in the strange way of reasoning and the satire on many aspects of Victorian society. This paper aims at analyzing the conversations between Alice and the inhabitants of Wonderland to show how Lewis Carroll, through violating the well-established norms of logical argumentation and the pragmatics of conversation based on the Cooperative Principle of Grice (1975) and the Politeness Principle of Brown and Levinson (1978), was able to create humour and convey deeper messages. The paper highlights how the exchanges between Alice and the inhabitants of Wonderland turn out to be puzzling, and sometimes, even nonsensical and humorous because of the way language is used. It also shows that Carroll, through the nonsensical, yet seemingly logical, arguments of the inhabitants of Wonderland, was able to convey deeper messages, such as pointing out how confusing adults and their world are to children and how there is a gap in communication between them and mocking some aspects of the restrictive Victorian society. In this, the paper provides a deeper understanding of the language of Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
