Abstract

Antibiotic resistance has become a serious challenge in healthcare and the food industry due to the rise of multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogenic bacteria. One promising alternative is the use of bacteriophages as a therapeutic agent, given their high specificity and ability to infect and eliminate target bacteria without disrupting normal microbiota. This study aims to examine the host range of bacteriophages as a control agent for MDR bacteria through a systematic literature review approach. Data were collected from indexed scientific journals discussing bacteriophage-bacteria interactions, the characterization of monovalent and polyvalent phages, and the effectiveness of phage therapy. The review findings indicate that bacteriophage adsorption mechanisms depend on specific receptors on the bacterial cell wall. Their host range is categorized as narrow (monovalent) or broad (polyvalent), with polyvalent phages being preferred in therapy due to their ability to infect multiple MDR bacterial genera. This study highlights that an in-depth understanding of bacteriophage host range is crucial for developing effective and sustainable phage therapy. Beyond clinical applications, bacteriophages also hold potential for food safety and pathogen detection. Future research is needed to explore the optimization of phage combinations and genetic engineering to enhance their effectiveness in combating MDR infections.

Abstract

Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) and Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) are enzymes produced in high levels in blood serum when liver cells are severely damaged. Liver cell damage may occur due to an immune response to the Hepatitis B virus. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a virus that can cause an inflammation of the liver. SGOT and SGPT levels in HbsAG reactive patients can show varying levels depending on the severity of the infection and the patient's immune response. This study aimed to identify SGOT and SGPT levels in hepatitis B patients  The study was conducted with a descriptive observation design. The population of hepatitis B patients were 30 people. The sampling technique was accidental sampling. The results of the SGOT study in Hepatitis B patients were 16.6% of patients had normal SGOT levels, while 83.4% of patients had elevated SGOT levels. Similarly, 5 patients (16.6%) had normal SGPT levels, and 25 patients (83.4%) had elevated SGPT levels. Among the patients, 30% were female and 70% were male. Based on age, 30% were adults, and 70% were elderly. This research can be concluded that most patients with Hepatitis B had high SGOT and SGPT levels.

Abstract

Herbal plants in Indonesia have been widely used as traditional medicine. One natural resources is binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia (Ten) Steenis). Microorganisms, namely bacteria, usually cause infectious diseases. Proteus vulgaris, is a common species of Proteus that is associated with infections in humans. This research aims to find out whether Binahong (Anredera Cordifilia (Ten) Steenis) leaf extract can inhibit the growth of Proteus vulgaris bacteria. The method used in this research is experimental. The subject of this research is Binahong (Anredera Cordifilia (Ten) Steenis) leaf extract dissolved in 96% ethanol. which was evaporated using a rotary vacuum evaporator. The inhibition test was carried out using well diffusion technique on Mueller Hinton Agar media Proteus vulgaris, the conclusion of this research is that concentrations of 20% 40% 60% 80% and 100% can be classified as moderate inhibitory activity.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease caused by the failure of the pancreas to carry out its function, namely to produce insulin. Lack of insulin will cause increased levels of glucose in the blood or also known as hyperglycemia. HbA1c and Microalbuminuria are screening tests used to detect the early onset of diabetic nephropathy. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a correlation between HbA1c levels and microalbuminuria in diabetes mellitus patients at Bunda Mulia Lumajang Clinic and Laboratory. The research method was descriptive analytic. The subjects of this study were Diabetes Mellitus prolanis patients at Bunda Mulia Lumajang Clinic and Laboratory who were taken randomly as many as 50 patients.. The results of this study are that there is a unidirectional positive relationship with a strong correlation between HbA1c levels and microalbuminuria in diabetes mellitus patients, with a correlation value of 0.722. Based on the results, can be concluded that there was a strong and positive correlation between HbA1c and urine microalbumin in diabetes mellitus patients.
