Abstract

Physical activity is one of the stress factors that can provide physiological changes to the function of the hematological system such as changes in platelet count. Physical activity can produce free radicals that can result in cell damage including platelets. Platelets play a role in the hemostasis process, If the platelet count is too low, it can cause excessive bleeding. However, if there is an increase in platelet count too high, it can cause thrombosis that can inhibit blood vessels. Antioxidants have a protective effect on cells and eliminate free radicals. The objective of this research was to ascertain the reaction of platelets to the injection of jungga orange peel essential oil (citrus jambhiri) in male rats that were subjected to strenuous exercise. Twenty male rats (3-4 months old, 180-200 grams) of the Wistar strain of the white rat (Rattus norvegicus) were used in the experiment. Using a random number generator, 20 white rats were split into two groups. In group P1, the rats swam for 50 minutes, three times a week, for four weeks. In group P2, the rats swam for 50 minutes, three times a week, for four weeks, and were also given 0.05 milliliters of jungga orange peel essential oil every hour prior to swimming. Based on these findings, it appears that there is a statistically significant difference between the P1 and P2 groups in terms of the average platelet count, with the P2 group exhibiting a decline in platelet count. Antioxidant substances contained in the essential oil of jungga orang have the ability to inhibit the decline in platelet function after high-intensity physical activity.

Abstract

The circulatory system or cardiovascular system is an organ system that functions to move substances to and from cells. The term cardiovascular ability has the same meaning as several other terms such as cardiac endurance, aerobic fitness, and cardiorespiratory endurance. In the Penggemar Senam Pagi Sungai Kambang Ceria (PSPSKC) community, there is a lack of physical activity, a lack of application of the right time to do sports and less precise in choosing sports exercises that can improve cardiovascular. Because the members need to have good cardiovascular endurance to support daily activities. This type of research is an experimental research with a one group pre-test post-test design. The instrument used is the Harvard step test. The population in this study were the entire Senam Pagi Sungai Kambang Ceria (PSPSKC) community which amounted to 64 people. Sampling in this study using purposive sampling technique, namely the technique of determining the sample with a specific purpose. The sample in this study were 10 people from the Penggemar Senam Pagi Sungai Kambang Ceria (PSPSKC) community aged 20-30 years. The results of the research on the initial test (pre-test) got an average result of 57.3 while in the final test (post-test) it was 65.3. Meanwhile, from the results of hypothesis testing using the t-test, the results of t (4.457)> from the t value (1.833) with a significance level of = 0.05 (5%). From these data, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of Mix Impact aerobic exercise on cardiovascular improvement in the Penggemar Senam Pagi Sungai Kambang Ceria (PSPSKC) community.

Abstract

Exercise is commonly perceived as a pleasurable and healthy activity. However, it is classified as a complex activity that potentially enhances the formation of free radicals and oxidative stress. This study aims to analyze lipid peroxidation, as the biomarker of free radicals, in interval exercise. A total of 16 trained non-athlete male adolescents, aged 20-21 years old, with normal blood pressure, normal resting heart rate, and gave good level of physical fitness voluntarily participated in this study. The participants were randomly separated into two groups, namely the K1 (n=8, interval exercise with active resting medium intensity pedaling ergometer bike) and  K2 (n=8, interval exercise with resting without pedaling the ergometer bike). The interval exercise was carried out at 60-70% HRmax intensity for 35 minutes. The blood sample for Malondialdehyde (MDA) level analysis, as the lipid peroxidation biomarker, was taken using Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). The blood samples were collected before and after the interval exercise.  The obtained data were analyzed using the one-way ANOVA test with a 5% significance level. Our results suggest no significant different level of MDA, a lipid peroxidation biomarker, between the interval exercise with resting through medium intensity pedaling ergometer bike and the interval exercise with resting with no pedaling ergometer bike. However, the interval exercise resting through pedaling an ergometer bike presented relatively higher lipid peroxidation than the interval exercise resting without pedaling an ergometer bike. Therefore, following the free radical concept, interval exercise with resting through pedaling an ergometer bike is more beneficial than the exercise without pedaling an ergometer bike resting.

Abstract

The process of achieving the meaning of life is not easy for every individual because it is not only related to pleasant life experiences but also tragic or traumatic life experiences. Failure to find and fulfill the meaning of life usually leads to an appreciation of life without meaning, emptiness, feeling that you have no purpose in life, and feeling that your life is meaningless. One of the individuals who have difficulty in the process of finding the meaning of life is an athlete with a physical disability at the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Bengkulu Province. Therefore, an in-depth study is needed regarding the process of achieving meaningfulness in the lives of athletes with physical disabilities at the Bengkulu Province NPC. This research was conducted with qualitative research methods. Respondents in this study consisted of 5 quadriplegic athletes, consisting of 5male athletes. Collecting research data using interviews. The results of the study stated that each respondent went through 5 stages to achieve the meaning of life, namely the stages of suffering, self-acceptance, the discovery of the meaning of life, realization of meaning, and meaningful life. In the first stage, each respondent experienced suffering because they were looked down upon or bullied by the people around them. In the second stage, each respondent begins to accept himself with resignation, patience, and sincerity in living life. In the third stage, each respondent successfully went through the process of finding meaning with the support of parents and family. In the fourth stage, each respondent is committed to the life goals that have been set. In the fifth stage, each respondent lives a meaningful life by pursuing a profession as an athlete. So it can be concluded that the process of achieving the meaning of life for athletes with disabilities is through sports.
