Abstract

The creative economy has become Indonesia's new potential after being included in the national development strategic plan. In 2007, creative economy program was started by the Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy and has now merged into the program of Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf). This study aims to build a digital business-based community empowerment model to improve MSMEs’ resilience in the midst of pandemic. A qualitative approach and system dynamics model were used to investigate the handicraft sector in Pangandaran Regency. This study found that MSMEs in Pangandaran Regency still relied on government support. Also, the handicrafts creation was still below the standard and the quantity was not sufficient. Moreover, the business actors still lacked the capital. This condition was exacerbated by the lack of use of digital marketing by craftsmen. Efforts made by the government were intensive assistance. Although it was still quite far from what was expected, the programs implemented by the relevant agencies were quite significant. Even though the penta-helix synergy has been performed to develop MSMEs in Pangandaran Regency, there were some stakeholders that had not optimally implemented their functions.JEL Classification C26; I26; J15

Abstract

Tengket Beach has an unspoiled beauty, with stretches of fine white sand as the main visitor attraction. However, the village government and surrounding communities have not been interested in managing this potential. Therefore, this study aimed to determine visitor perceptions, the factors influencing the number of visits, and Tengket Beach tourism’s economic value. Samples were determined using the linear time function formula. The data collected were further analyzed by descriptive qualitative, multiple linear regression, and travel cost methods. The results showed that Tengket Beach is perceived as unattractive based on its accessibility and facilities. Based on accessibility indicators, 96.7% of visitors stated that Tengket Beach was not feasible. Meanwhile, based on facility criteria, only 20% of visitors stated that the place had good facilities. Other findings show that most visitors explained that the beach is quite interesting regarding its attractiveness. The results also showed that travel costs negatively affect visits, while accessibility and facilities have a positive effect. Additionally, the economic value of the beach is IDR5,890,560,000 per year. This is an indicator that Tengket Beach has the potential to be used as an economic resource for the surrounding community.JEL Classification C26; I26; Q51

Abstract

The study examined the household division of labour, and household power relations in access to domestic water services in rural areas. This study was conducted in Manyoni District in Tanzania, used a cross-sectional research design whereby primary and secondary data were collected using  questionnaire  from 191 households randomly selected from two wards. In addition, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method was used to collect qualitative data. Quantitative data were analyzed for descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentages and inferential statistics the chi-square test. Qualitative data were analyzed by using content analysis. The findings show that due to the traditional gender division of labor at the household level, women were the major seekers of domestic water for their households although some indications of equity in the household division of labor were also reported between boys and girls. Furthermore, most of the non-monetary decisions on access to domestic water were assigned to women whereas men were involved in the monetary decisions like paying user fees. It was concluded that gender relations played a role in access to domestic water services in the study area. It was recommended that the government should provide more improved water sources in rural areas to ensure access to many households, hence, reducing women’s burden of fetching water from distant sources and improving the welfare of women in rural areas.JEL Classification I26; J16; Q25To cite this article:  Mfinanga, F. Abstract

Tourism is one of the economic sectors that can quickly bring in foreign exchange for the country if managed properly and sustainably. Many economic variable factors influence the demand and supply of the tourism industry, especially the level of foreign tourist visits, such as economic growth, exchange rate, and inflation. This study aimed to determine the influence of economic variable factors, especially economic growth, exchange rate, and inflation, on the number of foreign tourist visits in Indonesia. A quantitative descriptive method is used in this study. To analyze the factors influencing the number of foreign tourist visits in Indonesia, independent variables such as economic growth, exchange rate, and inflation are used in the Multiple Linear Regression equation model. The data used in this study is secondary data on annual time series for the period 2001 – 2020. The research result shows that the number of foreign tourist visits in Indonesia is significantly influenced by economic growth and the exchange rate, while inflation has no significant effect. There are still other factors (non-economic) that influence the decision of tourists to visit. Several factors that need to be considered to increase the interest of foreign tourists visits in Indonesia are tourist attractions, accessibility, amenities, ancillary, attractive promotions, and social, political, and security stabilityJEL Classification A13; B55; D69

Abstract

Tourism in Indonesia holds immense potential for bolstering national income and fostering economic growth. Agrotourism, an emerging sector, intertwines tourism activities with agriculture, exemplified by the guava crystal orchads in Padang Village, Bojonegoro Regency. Despite its promise, the full potential of this agrotourism destination remains untapped. A mixed-method approach was employed in a study to assess its sustainability comprehensively. Quantitative data was initially collected and analyzed using multidimensional scaling (MDS), followed by SWOT analysis. Findings indicate that while the ecological dimension demonstrates strong sustainability, other aspects such as the economy exhibit room for improvement. Consequently, various sustainability formulation strategies are proposed. The S-O strategy advocates collaboration with external stakeholders under favorable terms, while the W-O strategy emphasizes heightened promotional efforts and collaborative ventures to enhance human resource quality. Moreover, the S-T strategy entails intensifying promotional activities to counter competitors, whereas the W-T strategy focuses on enhancing accessibility, diversifying product offerings, and fostering collaborations to tackle challenges effectively. Implementation of these strategies is anticipated to furnish managers and policymakers with a pragmatic framework to enhance the sustainability. In essence, stakeholders can propel the crystal guava orchard agrotourism towards greater sustainability, thereby contributing significantly to the economic advancement of the region.JEL Classification A14; Q26; Z30To cite this article: Hartono, R. Abstract

With time it is getting more difficult to solve environmental issues as several people are unaware of the current environmental concerns. Using the ecological footprint analysis, people can know their daily use of natural resources. Therefore, this study aims to determine the ecological footprint of people in Solo, Indonesia. We applied the Ecological Footprint Test to the 152 respondents that consist of students, academicians and ordinary people. Through survey and questionnaire, this study found the relationship between different statuses of occupation and determined which category was more eco-friendly. Furthermore, this study hypothesized about the effects of education level on the use of natural resources and explained that educational level does affect the use of natural resources. Regression analysis was used to examine the determinant of ecological footprint score of the Solo people. The result showed that the estimated parameter of education has positively significant to the ecological footprint of the people of Solo. The higher the education, the higher the ecological footprint score of the Solo people. This is indirectly related to mobility and the goal of earning more income for those with higher education. Therefore, their consumption of natural resources is higher than that of ordinary people. The  economic improvement is directly proportional to increases in income and natural resources.JEL Classification P18; Q01; Q30To cite this article: Mulyawan, M. F., Antriyandarti, E., & and Son, H.
