Abstract

Online gaming’s rapid growth has introduced gambling-like mechanics (e.g., loot boxes, gacha systems), raising concerns about their influence on students’ susceptibility to online gambling. Despite increasing global attention, little research explores how these gaming elements normalize gambling behaviors among adolescents, particularly in educational contexts. This study addresses this gap by examining whether prolonged exposure to online gaming—especially games with gambling mechanics—increases students’ risk of engaging in online gambling. Using a mixed-method approach, this study combined surveys of 177 students and in-depth interviews with 35 students from SMK Bakti Nusantara 666 to analyze gaming habits, psychological effects, and exposure to gambling elements. Findings revealed that excessive gaming, particularly in games with loot boxes or gacha systems, correlated with higher gambling tendencies, addiction risks, academic decline, and social isolation. Conversely, moderate gaming offered benefits like stress relief. The study underscores the urgency of preventive measures, such as school policies, parental controls, and curriculum-integrated gambling awareness programs. It also highlights the need for collaboration among educators, parents, and digital platforms to mitigate risks.

Abstract

Teachers play a central role in designing instructional strategies that stimulate children’s creativity through engaging and developmentally appropriate activities. One such pedagogical approach is the use of gradation colouring, which not only introduces children to artistic techniques but also enhances cognitive flexibility, imagination, and aesthetic sensitivity. This study therefore aims to investigate teachers’ instructional strategies in fostering children’s creativity through gradation colouring activities. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers, and supporting documentation. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s which involves data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The findings reveal that teachers employed various strategies, such as scaffolding techniques, direct and visual approach, motivation through fun activities, giving freedom to experiment, and providing positive and constructive feedback. Thus, the instructional strategies implemented by teachers through color gradation activities have a significant positive impact on the development of early childhood creativity. Therefore, color gradation activities are not only an art technique but also an effective approach to support the holistic creative development of children.

Abstract

The integration of digital technologies into character education presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly in Islamic educational institutions where moral and religious values must be preserved alongside technological advancement. This qualitative comparative case study investigates how SMP Khadijah and SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Pucang implement digital-based character education. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis involving school leaders, teachers, and students. The findings reveal that SMP Khadijah adopts a structured approach through its 4S Program by utilizing multimedia tools to promote values such as politeness, discipline, and respect. In contrast, SMP Muhammadiyah 4 applies a project-based learning model via its proprietary E-Learning Muhammadiyah (ELMO) platform, encouraging students to produce digital content that reflects values like honesty and tolerance. Both schools face shared challenges, including inconsistent teacher proficiency with digital tools, distractions from non-educational content, and digital literacy gaps among students. Thus, the hybrid model, such as combining teacher-guided structure with student-centered projects it can may offer an effective strategy for embedding character education in digital environments.

Abstract

Motivation to learn is a crucial factor in shaping students' academic achievement. However, dependence on a digital lifestyle, including online games, can disrupt students' sleep quality and focus on learning. This study aimed to examine the effects of online gaming intensity and sleep quality on students’ learning motivation. A quantitative approach was employed using multiple linear regression analysis, involving 110 active undergraduate students from the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University. The results showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.804. This indicates that online gaming intensity and sleep quality together significantly influence learning motivation, accounting for 80.4% of the variance. The standardized beta coefficient for online gaming intensity was -0.757 (p = 0.000), indicating a strong negative effect on learning motivation. Similarly, the standardized beta coefficient for sleep quality was -0.191 (p = 0.001), indicating a significant negative impact as well. In conclusion, lower online gaming intensity and better sleep quality are associated with higher learning motivation among students.

Abstract

This study examines the limited integration of values-based education and 21st-century competencies into learning practices. This is particularly relevant to enhancing students' creativity and self-directed learning through authentic activities. The purpose of this study was to examine how Market Day activities implement Project-Based Learning (PjBL), how Islamic values are incorporated into them, and how these activities foster student creativity and self-directed learning. The study employed a qualitative case study method, with participants being purposively selected based on their participation in the learning process. An interactive model used condensation, display, and inference to analyze data from various sources. Triangulation techniques were also used to ensure data validity. The results indicate that Market Day-based PjBL is structured through structured planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. Islamic values such as honesty, responsibility, cooperation, and fairness are also embedded in students' social and transactional activities. Furthermore, the learning process allows students to engage in reflective activities, task organization, and idea generation; this indicates increased creativity and self-directed learning. The results indicate that Market Day-based PjBL serves as an integrative learning model that connects experiential learning with value internalization. This helps build broader competencies in education.

Abstract

The professional commitment of lecturers in higher education is increasingly under pressure due to publication demands, administrative burdens, and continuous performance-based evaluations. This condition triggers emotional exhaustion, not only in physical exhaustion but also in the depletion of psychological energy and a reduction in the depth of work’s meaning. This research aims to understand the experience of emotional fatigue and the role of psychological well-being as a resilience mechanism in maintaining professional commitment. Using the qualitative Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of lecturers from various universities. The results show that emotional exhaustion shifts professional involvement toward a more mechanistic, defensive stance. In contrast, psychological well-being, through self-acceptance, life goals, autonomy, personal growth, and positive relationships, can reconstruct the profession’s meaning and maintain commitment. This research contributes by presenting a resilience model based on psychological well-being in an academic context. So that means universities need to develop policies that not only reduce workload but also strengthen lecturers’ psychological foundations.
