Abstract

The Goals of this research are to identify and analyze the local knowledge of Aikit tribe's society in managing the environment related with the value orientation. Utilization of Mangrove forest by Akit tribe is in separable from the role of knowledge system. The conception of values which are the basis of human acts are stored with in the framework of knowledge. According to Kluckhohn, there are orientation values of culture possessed by society 1) the meaning of human life, 2) the meaning of human relationships with others, 3) the problem of human perception about time, 4) Nature of work, 5) the problem of human relationships with nature. This study describes local knowledge of Akit tribe community inexploiting nature where there is an exchange between the nature of work and the condition of nature damage. Akit tribe utilizes mangrove forest as their livelihood as supplier of mangrove wood at Panglong Arang. This research uses qualitative­descriptive, with 6 informants and 4 key informants. Data obtained through interviews conducted in the Berancah village Bengkalis. The results of this study show that local knowledge of Akit Tribe people based on the concep to value orientation has its own definition according to local aspect. It has a relationship in the pattern of acting in the face of nature, therefore it is necessary to pay attention on local knowledge, especially in the value of the essence of the very closely related work with the existence of mangrove forests, and utilize mangrove timber wisely so that the preservation of forest in the coastal areas are well preserved.

Abstract

This research is entitled “the analysis of illocutionary speech act of president Jokowi in APEC, China 2014”. The research was aimed at exploring and identifying speech acts uttered by president Jokowi in his presidential speech in China, 2014. Levinson (1983) proposed that the interest of pragmatic study was based on its empirical and descriptive way. Hence, this research was aimed at exploring and identifying illocutionary forms uttered by president Jokowi in his presidential speech in China, 2014. The research shows that factors of situation, place, topic, speaker and context play significantly as important roles. The form of structure of the speech was more on representative functioning to inform and invite.

Abstract

This writing analyzes a short story entitles The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas written by Ursula Le Guin which highlights the elements of Utopia and Dystopia found in a society as reflected in the text such as the happiness, cheerfulness which are almost perfect. Besides, the feeling of secure is also felt by the inhabitants of Omelas so that they don’t need a government to manage their life. On the contrary, the element of dystopia is ironic, in which the happiness felt by the people is paid by a little child who is locked in dark, small room. This child is victimized to guarantee the perfect life of the people in Omelas. Consequently, those who can’t accept this reality decide to leave Omelas, they are the ones who walk away from Omelas. Related to that, this analysis applies descriptive analysis in which the result will be explained descriptively. From the description, it will show how the elements of Utopia and Dystopia are reflected in the life of the people in Omelas which describe the society of Omelas and its belief in Sacrificing the child for the sake of the happiness of the community.

Abstract

The research entitled Batik Motives Sri Tanjung by Hadi Sumarno from Indragiri Hilir Riau in Aesthetic Perspective, it analyzes the exixtence, development, meaning and aesthetical creation of the motives. The main purpose of this reseach is to find the philosophical meaning of the motives creation and will be described deeply, and widely based on the aesthetic theory perspective.

Abstract

This analysis proves that in Indonesian Anthology of Short Stories, especially short story written by Trisno Sumardjo entitled Asran, there are three extrinsic elements are founded. They are: social, economic, and educational elements. This analysis finds that the character of Asran is interesting to discuss because this character has different sides in his life: social, economic, and educational sides which can contribute to maturize the readers in understanding the life.

Abstract

This study aims to know the problem solving of economy, socio-culture, and religion in respect to matrilineal concept of Minangkabau society. The problems raised in this study are about the problem of economy, socio-culture, and religion related to matrilineal concept. The result of study proves that the “surface structure” that belongs to this story contained “deep structure” that reflects the cultural identity of the matrilineal society of Minangkabau. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data obtained through library research with the presentation of descriptive data analysis. After investigation, It can be concluded that the matrilineal kinship system in Minangkabau society affects the way the society in addressing the problems that arise, as seen in the myth of “Malin Kundang”. The myth illustrates matters as follows. 1. The economic issues that arise is solved by wandering famous tradition in Minang community. 2. After marriage, a man will stay in the family of woman (matrilocal). If the opposite happens, it becomes a disgrace to the family. 3. Punishment of Malin Kun-dang figures closely associated with the position of Minangkabau women who are considered high in society, in the tradition and values of Islam exposed by Minangkabau community.

Abstract

Mesikhat ornament is one of heritage artworks made by people in Alas tribe. As one of the cultural heritages, the motif of Mesikhat ornament which is really important as th eaesthetic symbol for Alas tribe in Southeast Aceh. People in south Aceh call all of carve motif that come from south Aceh as Meshikat. However Meshikat is originally came from Alas tribe. Meshikat motif can be found in traditional house, traditional costume, bag, wallet and others accessories. Meshikhat ornament had existed before the Independence day of Indonesia. However, it became popular around 1990 when these wing machine was firstly used in south east of Aceh. Formerly, meshikat is only applied in traditional house but nowadays the motif is also used in fashion, bag, wall and others accessories. Meshikat, that is applied in traditional house and costume, has five colors; red, yellow, green, white and black. The basic colors symbolize different meanings. For example red symbolizes the bravery, green symbolizes the fertility, yellow shows the glory or the greatness, white symbolizes the purity, and black symbolizes the leadership. The idea of Meshikat motif originated from plants, animals, social life and chess board. The descriptions are applied in the form of two dimension motif without ignoring the aesthetic aspect and the meaning of these objects. Meshikat, notif present many interpretations and messages such as social message, moral value, and spiritual message depending on the motifs.

Abstract

This writing compares the elements of deux ex machina in two folklores entitle “Pak Belalang” and “ Rumpelstiltskin”. Thus, the objective of the research is describe and analyze the similarities and differences of the elements of deux ex machina used in eastern and western folklores because these two chosen folklores reflect the tendency of both easterners and westerners in using the elements of deux ex machina in creating the folklores. Related to that, this analysis applies descriptive analysis in which the result of the analysis will be described clearly. From the description, it will show the tendency of the eastern and western’s texts in making good use of the elements of deux ex machina which may determine the aesthethic elements of a literary work.

Abstract

This research was entitled "The Concept of Dramatic Elements in Traditional Tehater Mendu Riau ". The research focused on the dramatic elements. That’re produce the scene and the structure of the play in the show. In Teater Mendu's performing arts at Matan Theater, actors do not use text or texts as a guide to dialogue. Actors only speak of dialogue spontaneously. This is where the emergence of these aesthetic elements, which cannot be reviewed with modern dramaturgy approaches. This study uses Dramaturgy theory with a descriptive qualitative approach. The process of interviewing, observing, documenting is the way to go to find dramatic elemental concepts, Mendu Theater at the Matan Theater Riau. Abstract

This research has been motivated by literature as reflection of reality. The story ”Rusa-Rusa Masuk Kaca” is selected because the character in the story presents reality. The study of this story uses Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic analysis. Namely sign, object, and interprentrant. Semiotic analysis is used to analyze character representation that connect literary work with reality. The method used is qualitative descriptive with a literature study of data collection techniques. Keywords: Short Stories Rusa-Rusa Masuk Kaca, Semiotic Peirce, Character Representation.
