Abstract

Malay “Bangsawan” drama is believed to the embryo of the development of theatre in Riau province. From its history, Bangsawan drama owed to Indian traders who brought wayang Parsi to Malay Peninsula (Malaysia, Sumatera, and to Temasik (Singapore)). Malay “Bangsawan” drama nowdays undergoes changes. The “Bangsawan” drama changes the existed convention which differentities it from the “old Bangsawan” is then called the “new Bangsawan”. This change is beneficial for the continuity of “Malay Bangsawan” drama because a good performance should be able to adapt with the social condition. This writing views how the changes in form and structure occur in Malay “Bangsawan” drama. The changes lead to the term “New (young) Bangsawan Theatre”. Abstract

Bangsawan drama is a traditional Malay theater in Riau. The play presents about life around the kingdom, presented according to the custom and the rules that have been determined. The original Malay stories that made into Bangsawan drama performances are Hang Tuah Lima Bersaudara, Sultan Mahmud Mangkat Dijulang and Laksamana Bintan. The story of Raja Kecil was taken from the history of the founder of Siak Kingdom which is packed into very interesting form of theater to be studied. The object of this study focuses on the texture of the play in the performance of the Raja Kecil. This research uses Dramaturgy theory by using a descriptive qualitative approach method. The process of interviewing, observing, documenting are the ways that have been through to find out the play texture. Keywords: Bangsawan Drama, Play Texture, Matan Theater

Abstract

This writing deals with analyzing Sigmund Freud’s personality structure on Arabian nights (Seribu Satu Malam). The analysis shows that in his actions, the main character, King Shahryar, is controlled by the three components of Freud’s personality structures; Id. Ego and Superego. Id controls the king when he is pushed by his Id to marry a woman and kills that woman the following day. He does that everyday for three years. It is pushed by soul drive to get pleasure when his anger and revenge are fulfilled. So, marrying and killing those women are pushed by Id. Ego’s domination is seen when the king is eager to listen to his wife’s stories and his awareness of his power also the reality he responds in leading him to his actions. At last, Superego brings him back to his good nature when he can finally accept his wife, Shahrazad. Besides, listening to Shahrazad’s stories also triggers Superego portrayed by his giving chance for Shahrazad to tell the stories, respecting her and furthermore, the good characters’quality in Shahrazad’s stories also contribute to strengthen Superego’s domination.

Abstract

Tunjuk Ajar Melayu written by Tenas Effendy is a brilliant work that contains a variety of educational pearl values ​​in a broad sense. If the value is actualized in the concepts of education, then a quality form or format will be produced in the preparation of the concept of education. One of the most urgent values ​​in Malay teaching is character. Based on a study of the character content in the 2013 Curriculum and the character values ​​in the Tenas Effendy Malay Language Teaching Guide, the author sees that there are similarities and meeting points of the two aspects. However, the character values ​​in Tunjuk Ajar Melayu by Tenas Effendy are far broader and deeper and it touches directly on the cultural basis of society. These values ​​are neatly packaged in the curriculum, they will result a very positive if these impact in the context of achieving national education goals today.

Abstract

The research attempted to describe the ecosophy of “Cangkir Kera” in Riau Malay Folklore “Banglas Antara Rintis” written by Hang Kafrawi. The kind of research is library research and the method used was descriptive-qualitative. The data was collected by using simak method. The data analysis applies agih method with the deletion technique and the substitution technique. The data used was written language related to ecolinguistic in Banglas Antara Rintis written by Hang Kafrawi, et al. The result of the research shows that Allah SWT has given Malay the environment with various types of plants. One unique plant is “Cangkir Kera” which can be used as a medium of medicine for anyone who coughs. The old Malays use pure water in a “Cangkir Kera” to treat coughing and other kinds of disease. This way is a form of local Malay wisdom in utilizing their environment by always expecting help from Allah SWT.

Abstract

The martial art of silat in Minangkabau, which is usually called silek, has its own uniqueness in terms of terms and movements. Silek in Minangkabau is a legacy from the Minangkabau ancestors that still exists and develops today. The requirements that must be possessed in this silat include cloth, knives, sewing needles, mirrors, rice and money that have meaning in this silat tradition. In addition, there are other elements in these martial arts which also have meaning in terms of movement, clothing and place of implementation. This study focuses on the meaning of the terms and movements used in the silek of Tuo gunuong in Kubu Gadang village. The informants in this study are traditional elders and people who still practice silat as a martial art and understand the terms and meanings of the movement.

Abstract

Kanya is a contemporary dance that raises the issue of early marriage in Sukabumi. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analysis approach that provides a description or description by describing data obtained from the field regarding the choreography of the Kanya dance, as well as Ela's creativity in compiling the Kanya dance. To answer the problem regarding the Kanya dance choreography, it was explained using the basic elements of choreography based on Sumandiyo Hadi's opinion. In addition, Ela's creativity was explained using the 4P concept proposed by Rhodes, namely (1) person (2) press (3) process (4) product. The results obtained from Ela's study of creativity in the Kanya dance work were greatly influenced by her experience as a dancer and choreographer. This creativity is manifested in daily motives by the lack of a stilator and a combination of techniques such as fibration, fall and recovery, repetition, and tempo adjustment. The conclusion of this research is the result of Ela's creativity that uses daily movements by exploring the characteristics of some rope and jug characteristics as well as minimalist clothing and make-up choices.

Abstract

This writing analyzes a popular Malay text entitled Kisah 1001 Malam (Arabian Nights). This analysis shows that from the perspective of patriarchal ideology, a man is signified as a strong and powerful figure. On the other hand, the analysis shows that the strong and powerful figure in the text is not the man but a woman instead. It is shown by presenting the man character who fails to fulfill his role as the savior or the problem solver, thus, the role is taken by a woman character. Thus, this analysis applies descriptive analysis in which the result of the analysis is described vividly. From the description, it will show patriarchal ideology which places man as the powerful figure is replaced by a woman who is strong and smart.

Abstract

This study examines Pantun Batobo, Kampar oral literature using ecocritical and semiotic theories. Pantun Batobo is a poem sung by batobo actors (mutual cooperation in farming) in the cultural areas of Kampar, Kuantan Singgigi, and Inderagiri. This pantun is intended as a remedy for fatigue because batobo actors work from morning to evening. This pantun can be classified into the cultural products of an agrarian society. To study the pantun, ecocritical and semiotic theories are used. Methods used interview techniques and literature while for data analysis used descriptive analysis methods. The results of this study are found the concept of harmony between humans and nature in the Pantun Batobo.

Abstract

This analysis analyzes the Malay kitab entitled “Risalah” which is transcribed into Jawi by Ahmad bin Sulaiman Kamal from the original writing in Arabic written by Alim Ad-Dahri. The focus of this analysis is women’s characters found in the text. The text conveys ten women characters likened to animals. The knowledge about these women characters assists men to judge before marrying the women since a wife plays important role in determining a good marriage. This analysis qualitative descriptive analysis started with the process of translation from Jawi to the Latin alphabet. This analysis will contribute a lot in choosing a spouse to avoid failure in a marriage. Thus, it is needed to be socialized with the public.
