The Traditional Village of Jorong Padang Ranah and Tanah Bato Nagari Sijunjung still maintain 76 rumah gadang which have been designated as Cultural Conservation Areas. The gadang houses in this traditional village are made entirely of wood and are susceptible to weathering and damage to building elements. This study aims to analyze the condition of the damage to the rumah gadang building through the field observation method. The identification of damage to the rumah gadang building is one of the stages of activities that must be carried out in an overall restoration process. The method used is the field observation method through observing the condition of the elements of the rumah gadang building. Observations were made on the existing condition of damaged building elements, type of damage, level of damage and plans for its handling. Each damage condition is informed in detail accompanied by photos, pictures and required information. Management plans in the form of architectural restoration and structural repairs are also informed in detail along with photos, drawings and required information. The results of the identification will be used as a model of the damage identification document which is used as the basis for technical planning for the preservation of the rumah gadang in the future.

Children are individuals who will experience growth and development. Every child has the potential and talent in him if he gets learning both in terms of knowledge and creativity. In the city of Palembang, there are many homeless children, beggar children and underprivileged street children. This makes the current state of the covid-19 pandemic even more dangerous for children, because they are afraid that many children will be exposed to the covid-19 virus. Therefore, the existence of a children's social institution building can help street children to get a decent life by providing a sense of comfort with a recreational atmosphere and various self-skill facilities to be able to provide a more secure future. The design of children’s social homes will go through design methods with behavioral architecture. The architecture approach of behavior is driven by how activity or behavior of any child is subsequently incorporated into the design of the building, so the design of a child’s orphanage building has the character of every room that matches that of the child’s behavior. This design will also apply a lifecycle theme related to the life cycle that continues to change in growth. The design of the children's social home is expected to be a forum in helping children to get a prosperous life, work and achieve.

The facade is the most important part of a building, because the facade of the building is the first thing that is often seen and shows a style at that time and the identity of the home owner. The use of local architectural elements in several cities in Indonesia is widely used in public buildings, government buildings and even residential houses. The use of these elements can be seen from the shape of the roof, walls which of course have the meaning or philosophy of a local architectural element. The application of these local architectural elements is used in the appearance of the building as the identity of a region. For this reason, this study aims to determine the application of local architectural elements to the building, especially on Jalan Captain A. Rivai Palembang. This study uses a descriptive analysis method through an exploratory approach. Data were obtained by conducting field observations, literature studies and interviews. The use of these elements is widely used in government buildings. The elements that are often used are tanjak, Palembang songket and carvings typical of the local area.

Limited land area and increasing population have made housing prices in big cities expensive, so the provision of subsidized housing has also expanded. The problem that often occurs in subsidized housing is the design of housing that does not take into account the needs of the occupants. Subsidized houses that are not in accordance with the wishes can affect the occupants' perception of comfort towards the available subsidized houses. This study aims to determine the perceptions of residents in Makassar City on the available subsidized housing depending on the desired needs. The research method used is quantitative using a questionnaire to determine the comfort perception of the architectural elements of subsidized houses by questioning several aspects that can be seen from the characteristics of the occupants and then analyzed using a Likert scale with cross tabulation (SPSS) which is associated with the characteristics of the occupants. The results of research are cross-tabulated occupant perceptions and associated with occupant characteristics indicating that the perceptions and occupant profiles in Makassar City on average feel comfortable with the space available for their activities. But there are also those who are uncomfortable so that they may need to add or expand space and change the function of space to support their daily needs.

Rawa Buaya Lokbin flats are buildings with commercial and residential functions. Two activities which different nature. That is why it is interesting to observe the infringements there. According to Hillier and Hanson, the basic concept of space syntax analysis consists of 3 types, namely Connectivity, Integration, and Intelligibility. Spaces with high connectivity level are the most potential for infringements compared with other with lower connectivity levels. This research aims to compare the connectivity level mapping (by space syntax method) with the compiling of the infringements mapping (through observation, literature study and in-depth interviews) on each floor. Based on the comparison, there is a discrepancy between predictions from Space syntax and empirical conditions. The red area (which is predicted to be the most frequent place of infringements) has little or hardly even infringements and conversely the blue area (which is predicted to be safe) actually has several infringements. There are several causes for this to happen, namely the intervention from the flat management to anticipate these conditions, lack of knowledge of the rule violators of some regulations, lack of facilities and the awareness of building users to comply with regulations is low.

The groin is a building construction located on the shore with an orientation that points perpendicularly to the sea. The function of the groin is as a barrier from sediments that move along the coastline and a medium for wave dampening. Changes in coastal areas caused by nature or normal marine activities make coastal areas need to be considered more deeply. The groin construction process that does not apply structural and architectural science or analysis causes the building to be unstable and easily destroyed by large waves. The decline of the coastline in Kampung Tua Nongsa from 1995 to 2022 as far as 30 meters resulted in residential settlements experiencing continuous land shifts. The research method uses descriptive qualitative through interview, observation, and documentation approaches. This research aims to obtain the results of the effectiveness of groins on the coast of Kampung Tua Nongsa by looking at the distribution pattern, structure, material, and architecture. The research results show that groins that are effective for the beach conditions of Kampung Tua Nongsa should be natural stone material with groin lengths of 50 cm - 60 cm and groin heights between 0.5 - 1.0 m.

A great pedestrian facility is one that could satisfy everyone's desire for walking by giving them a sense of security and comfort. A good sidewalk could encourage a sustainable environment and needs to conform to the requirements for size and supporting infrastructure. Similar to Palembang City, the sidewalk is located alongside Sudirman Walk can be considered as a pilot project since it already satisfies requirements for size, material use, and amenities that promote pedestrian safety and comfort. The aim of this research is to review the pedestrian amenities Sudirman Walk using qualitative descriptive methods through field observations, literature reviews, and comparisons. The Boston Transportation Department and The KEMENPUPR constitute the framework for the indicators used to evaluate the sidewalk's comfort and safety aspects. According to the the results, the sidewalk along the Sudirman road already has a feature that can help pedestrians feel safe and at comfort, especially considering the flow of traffic. However, due to its material use, this walkway is not completely safe for pedestrians, as it still has a risk to cause slips.

In the architectural education curriculum, the acquisition of student competencies is facilitated through the engagement in architectural design studio courses. These courses are structured in a sequential manner over the study period. The architectural design studio, constituting a fundamental component of the curriculum, imparts design lessons through practical application, addressing varying project scales and complexities in each semester progressively. Given its central role, the architectural design studio course carries a substantial credit load, surpassing that of other courses in Architectural Education. Consequently, architectural students allocate a significant portion of their study period to studio-based activities. Recognizing the diversity in the scale and complexity of these studios, students encounter a spectrum of experiences and challenges throughout the studio process. This paper aims to identify common problem factors experienced by architecture students during the execution of architectural design studio projects. The insights gathered from this research serve as valuable input for refining the organization and structure of architecture studios. Employing a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research methods, data was collected through online surveys utilizing both open-ended and closed-ended questionnaires. The analysis of the results illuminates the recurring challenges faced by students at different semester levels in completing studio assignments, accompanied by discussions on strategies to address these challenges.
