Abstract

Economic crisis that hit Indonesia in mid-1997 resulted in Indonesian debt , both government debt and private sector due to the weakening rupiah soaring . As a result of the crisis , since 1998 , the government has shaped domestic debt bonds . The debt was used to finance the dam restruktrisasi banking recapitula-tion almost bangkrut.Dalam this case , the IMF emerged a hero who will be the savior of the Indonesian economy in the form of loans . Through its lending , the IMF actually just adds to the burden of debt to support the balance of payments position . Therefore , the recovery was apparent because the IMF is not the result of an increase in private capital flows and increase net exports . The emergence of dependency theory as the impact of economic policies from the IMF have led to changes in the economy in Indonesian society , both positive and negative . This is consistent with the existence of two views of the dependency theory expressed by Sztompka (2008 ) , the outlook is pessimistic ( Andre Gunder Frank , 1969) and the outlook is rather optimistic ( F Cardoso and E. Falet , 1964) . Symptoms of social change arising from both dependency theory .

Abstract

This paper is about how blonde women are represented in blonde jokes. Throughout times, blondes are portrayed in two stereotypes: a) they are described as physically and sexually attractive, and b) they are described as brainless, su-perficial, and use looks over brain. The latter description is especially exploited through Blonde jokes. Blonde jokes tend to ridicule women by exposing how unin-telligent they are. This paper then tries to: a) uncover the structure of text of blonde jokes to see how blondes are represented, and in relation with general perception about blondes, b) see how stereotype is built in society. Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis theory will be used to see the relation be-tween text, interpretation, and context. J.M. Suls’s two stage model of infor-mation-processing analysis in jokes will be used to discover the structure of the jokes, and Stuart Hall’s representation theory will be used to see how stereotype is built in society.

Abstract

Autistic people might suffer from misconceptions in communication when they reach adolescent or as puberty affects their hormonal balance. To show their feelings to the opposite sex, autistics teenagers might communicate with each other by exchanging non-verbal symbols. Such condition occurred at the London School Beyond Academy (LSBA) Jakarta skills training institute. The present study aims to investigate non-verbal communications among young people with autism which take place when they are attracted to the opposite sex in LSBA. To investigate the matter, descriptive qualitative method was applied. Data is collected through interviews and observations. The results suggest non-verbal communication is not only understood by two teenagers who are attracted to each other, but also by their friends. The results show that non-verbal communications through symbols are common things among adolescents with special needs and such communication can be interpreted easily. The simplicity of perceived symbols and direct meaning from their friends make it easier for teenagers with special needs to express their feelings. Parents need to provide their supports by giving normative familial boundaries. In addition, educators can get involved by providing understanding of psychological stages of autistic teenagers. However, educators still need to give boundaries to those teenagers such as forbidding them from doing direct contact when no one is watching. under

Abstract

Communities in particular cities cannot survive without taking care of their members’ welfares. Therefore, the community’s social workers in several cities have made various efforts to overcome social problems such as the low levels of children's education and the problem of aging society. Some communities, particularly in urban areas, are founded to empower their people. One of urban cities in Indonesia which actively empower its people is Bandung. Relying on professional systems, Bandung strengthens the empowerment of local communities based on the values of togetherness, social moral/ethics, honesty, and mutual trust as well as highlighting its culture. This togetherness value is called in Indonesian as gotong royong. Similar idea has been used by a city in Japan, Kobe. Using a term called sougo fujo, it comprises the idea of togetherness to empower Japanese society. This research aims to compare the ideas of gotong royong and sougo fujo. By comparing social empowerment systems in developed countries like Japan, it will broaden the horizons of value orientation in our country. Similar to communities in Bandung, Kobe communities use their local wisdom to solve their social problems and empower their people. These ideas show that communities’ empowerment can be conducted by engaging the value of togetherness from their members.
