Abstract

Hizbut-Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) is a community organization that was born from the resistance of the Islamic community against Western occupation. Western values that hegemony national and state life are currently considered by HTI to be highly irrelevant to Islamic values. In addition, deteriorating national political conditions are perceived by HTI as a result of the failure of the Western system in Indonesia, so to resolve the issue there needs efforts to return Muslims to an Islamic system based on the Qur'an and Sunnah. By the Indonesian government, the ideas and solutions envisioned by HTI are considered to threaten national security which is referenced to Pancasila as the idea of state and community harmonization as the physical base of state. HTI construction as a threat that led to the dissolution of HTI on July 19, 2017 is a form of securitization carried out by the Indonesian government. This paper tries to explain how and why the securitization process was carried out and what the impact of HTI securitization itself was in Indonesian politics. This study seeks to fill the gap that previous research regarding how non-state actors play a major role in the HTI securitization process and how HTI securitization is a turning point for efforts to politicize and securitize other Indonesia's so-called radical communities after the PERPPU ORMAS.

Abstract

This paper aims to understand why similar efforts of state intervention can generate different economic outcomes. It argues that the different economic outcomes of state intervention can be traced back to the different processes of class struggle. Mobilizing Marxist view, it suggests that the state role in the economy should be understood as inseparable from capitalist development. That is, economic development is the terrain for class struggle between capital and labor. Although the contradictory relation between capital and labor is universal and global in capitalism, the form of contradiction will always be different across societies. That is the case because the form of class struggle depends on the specific development of the configuration of class power that has developed historically in each country alongside with its international process due to the expansive nature of capitalism itself.

Abstract

This article discusses why the failure to fulfill indigenous peoples' rights in managing natural resources in Riau Province will pose a threat to democracy. The empirical phenomenon in Riau Province showed that even though regulations in recognition and protection existed, conflicts in forest management and land belonging to indigenous peoples continued to occur. This study uses qualitative research methods by collecting data through interviews and documents. The results show that the non-fulfillment of indigenous peoples' rights in managing natural resources will lead to injustice, discrimination, and economic inequality. It will ultimately have implications for the decline in the quality of democracy and the government regime's legitimacy. The implementation of indigenous peoples' rights in managing natural resources in Riau Province is limited to democratic rhetoric. The conclusion in this study is that violations of indigenous peoples' rights will contribute to democratic de-consolidation.

Abstract

In spite of the fact that Islamic identity politics is not a new theme in Indonesia, this phenomenon is increasing in the public sphere after the 1998 reform. This is marked by the frequent use of religious issues in the political contestations such as the 2017 DKI Jakarta Gubernatorial election and the 2019 Presidential election. In the DKI election, certain Islamic groups demanded Basuki Tjahaya Purnama, who from the double minority group, as a subject due to blasphemy issue. However, in 2019 Presidential election which Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto rematched for the second candidacy, religious issues were also raising. Political contestation continued despite the fact that the two presidential candidates are Muslim. This interesting fact certainly raises the question of the phenomenon of national politics which leads not only to the strengthening of Islamic identity politics but also the identity politicsbetween Islamic groups in Indonesia. Based on field studies, literatures and interviews, this study will discuss the construction process of the identity politics of Islamic groups against social and political reality nowadays, moreover in the 2019 Presidential Election. In contrast to the other researches that still focuses on why identity politics arises, this research will examine the construction process, moreover in the 2019 Presidential election.
