Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in eastern regions such as Bulukumba District, South Sulawesi. Inadequate dietary diversity, household food insecurity, and suboptimal feeding practices are widely recognized as key contributors to chronic undernutrition among children under five years of age. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the association between dietary diversity, household food insecurity, feeding practices, and stunting among children aged 0–59 months in Bulukumba District. Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted with total of 228 mother–child pairs were selected through two-stage cluster sampling. Child anthropometric measurements were collected to determine stunting status based on height-for-age z-scores. Dietary diversity was assessed using the Household Dietary Diversity Score (HDDS), while household food insecurity was measured using the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multivariable logistic regression. Results: The mean dietary diversity score indicated moderate food diversity. Most children had received exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding. However, logistic regression analysis showed that child sex, age, exclusive breastfeeding, and complementary feeding practices were not significantly associated with stunting (p > 0.05). Complementary feeding exhibited the highest odds ratio (OR = 2.01) but did not reach statistical significance. The regression model demonstrated good fit, although its explanatory power was low (Nagelkerke R² = 0.023). Conclusion: Stunting in Bulukumba is likely influenced by complex and multifactorial determinants. Strengthening dietary diversity, improving household food security, and promoting optimal feeding practices through integrated nutrition and social protection interventions are essential to reduce stunting prevalence.

Abstract

Objective: Hypertension is a condition of persistently elevated arterial blood pressure and continues to be a major global health problem. The WHO estimates that by 2025, 1.5 billion people will suffer from hypertension, and 10.44 million people are predicted to die from hypertension and its complications each year. The role of the family is crucial in managing hypertension. Families play a crucial role as caregivers in improving the health status of their sick family members, as they play a crucial role in maintaining the health of those with hypertension. This study aimed analyzing the role of family in caring for elderly hypertension on blood pressure Methods: This research is a correlational study with a cross-sectional design using purposive sampling. The subjects were 46 elderly people with hypertension in Puton Village, Diwek District, Jombang Regency, according to the inclusion criteria for the 2025 study. The instruments used were the role of the family in caring for elderly people with hypertension using questionnaires and interviews (food selection, physical activity, stress management, referral to health facilities), and blood pressure measurements. Data were analyzed using coding, editing, tabulation, and scoring, and statistical tests were performed using the Chi Square test. Results: Based on the research results, it was shown that out of 47 respondents, 26 (55.3%) respondents had a not good family role in caring for elderly people with hypertension. Classification of hypertension based on blood pressure values, namely the majority (63.84) in the grade 2 hypertension category. Chi Square test for using SPSS yielded a p value of 0.02 less than 0.05 indicating correlation between the role of family in caring for elderly hypertension on blood pressure Conclusion: The role of the family in motivating the elderly with hypertension through exercise, regulating diet, encouraging them to control their blood pressure and taking medication, and regularly visiting health services can control blood pressure. The greater the role of the family, the better the quality of life of the elderly, which can be seen from the number of elderly whose blood pressure is controlled.

Abstract

Background:Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are a major cause of disability and are often accompanied by depression and anxiety, which may worsen pain and limit rehabilitation outcomes. Yoga, as a mind–body intervention, may provide both physical and psychological benefits; however, evidence regarding its effectiveness in MSD populations remains inconsistent. Methods:This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Randomized controlled trials evaluating the effects of yoga on depression and/or anxiety in adults with musculoskeletal disorders were identified from PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and CINAHL (January 2012–December 2025). A random-effects model was applied, and effect sizes were reported as mean differences or standardized mean differences with 95% confidence intervals. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. Results:Ten RCTs involving 1.063 participants were included. Yoga significantly improved depressive symptoms compared with control groups (MD = 1.19; 95% CI: 0.26–2.13; p = 0.01; I² = 61%) and significantly reduced anxiety (MD = 4.09; 95% CI: 0.64–7.54; p = 0.02; I² = 96%). Overall study quality ranged from low to moderate, mainly due to limited blinding. Conclusions:Yoga is associated with significant reductions in depression and anxiety among patients with musculoskeletal disorders. Despite substantial heterogeneity, yoga may be considered a complementary intervention within holistic musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Further high-quality trials with standardized protocols are required.

Abstract

Background: Arterial tourniquets are used in extremity surgical procedures to create a bloodless surgical field. In Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) there is redistribution of intravascular volume to the ischemic lower extremity, bleeding, and vasodilation, thereby potentially reducing arterial blood pressure. Objective: to analyze the differences in blood pressure reduction in TKA patients after direct and gradual tourniquet deflation. Methods: Using the Quasy experiment, the population was TKA surgery patients in the Central Surgery Room at Dr. RSUD. Soedono, East Java Province in January – March 2024. Using Simple Random Sampling techniques, it was found that n=24 respondents were divided into intervention group n=12 and control group n=12. Data analysis used the independent T-test. Results: There was no significant difference in pre-intervention systolic and diastolic blood pressure between the gradual and direct groups (p=0.055, p=0.451), there was no significant difference in post-intervention systolic blood pressure between the gradual and direct groups (p=0.578) and there was a significant difference diastolic blood pressure at post intervention between the gradual and immediate groups (p=0.032). The mean difference between pre and post systolic blood pressure in the gradual deflation group was 4.08 mmHg and Dyastole was 6.17 mmHg. Meanwhile, the difference in the mean value of pre and post Systole blood pressure in the direct deflation group was 19.31 mmHg and Dyastole was 10.55. The decrease in blood pressure in both systole and diastole in the gradual deflation group was smaller than in the immediate deflation group. Conclusion: Gradual tourniquet deflation allows for a smaller risk of lowering blood pressure than directly so it can be considered as an alternative method of tourniquet deflation after TKA surgery
