Abstract

Objective: Diarrhea is a common health issue in children that may cause dehydration and growth disturbances. This study aimed to determine the effect of pure honey on bowel movement frequency and stool consistency in children with diarrhea. Methods: This quasy experiment study used a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 20 children selected through purposive sampling. Data collection tools included observation sheets and the Bristol Stool Chart. The intervention was conducted over several days following the research protocol.. Results: The average frequency of bowel movements decreased from 5.90 to 2.20 times per day, while stool consistency improved from types 6–7 to types 3–4. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed significant results, with a p-value of 0.000 for both variables. Conclusion: The antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, osmotic, and enzymatic properties of pure honey, such as flavonoids and glucose oxidase, contribute to digestive recovery. Pure honey can be considered an effective non-pharmacological intervention to reduce symptoms of diarrhea in children.

Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood, marked by various complex physical and emotional changes, including behaviors such as attraction to the opposite sex, which then triggers sexual urges. Sexual behavior refers to all actions driven by sexual desire towards the opposite sex. Parenting patterns within the family hold a strategic value in shaping a child's personality and play a very important role in adolescent development. Objective: To examine the relationship between parenting patterns and sexual behavior among adolescent congregants in the city of Malang. Methods: This study used an analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study consisted of 100 individuals, using total sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. Results: Univariate analysis showed that nearly half (49%) of adolescents in one community at a house of worship in the City of Malang had democratic parenting from their parents. Furthermore, more than half (51%) of adolescents in the same community exhibited risky sexual behavior. Bivariate analysis found a significant relationship between parenting patterns and sexual behavior among adolescents, with a p-value = 0.000. Conclusion: Adolescents who receive permissive and authoritarian parenting tend to have riskier sexual behavior compared to those who receive democratic parenting. Parenting patterns are influenced by parental education; the higher the parents' education level, the better the type of parenting provided to their children.

Abstract

Anxiety during pregnancy is a common psychological condition, especially among high-risk pregnant women. Excessive anxiety may negatively impact both maternal and fetal health. This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal age, parity, and social support with anxiety levels in high-risk pregnant women at RS Arsy Paciran. A correlational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted on 35 respondents selected using consecutive sampling. Anxiety levels were measured using the DASS-42 questionnaire, and social support was assessed using the Maternity Social Support Scale (MSSS). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results revealed that maternal age (p=0.022), parity (p=0.009), and social support (p=0.001) had significant correlations with anxiety levels. Women who were younger or older than the ideal reproductive age range, had higher parity, or received low levels of social support experienced greater anxiety. Among the three variables, social support showed the strongest negative correlation with anxiety (rs = -0.615). This study concludes that maternal age, parity, and social support are dominant factors influencing anxiety in high-risk pregnancies. Healthcare professionals are encouraged to provide targeted education and consistent support to pregnant women, particularly those identified as high risk, to promote mental well-being during pregnancy.

Abstract

Objective: Anaemia is a common health problem in society, especially among adolescents, and is often found in developing countries, including Indonesia. Anaemia in adolescents is caused by lifestyle factors, namely the habit of drinking coffee, sleep patterns, eating habits, and a lack of knowledge regarding the consumption of Iron Folic Acid (IFA) supplements. This study aimed to identify the behaviours of adolescents at risk of experiencing anaemia. Methods: This was qualitative research with a narrative approach. The data collection technique used was in-depth interviews with participant selection through purposive sampling, resulting in 6 participants who met the inclusion criteria. Data validation was conducted using member checking, and the data were analyzed using Burke's pentadic dramatism. Results: The results of the study found that most female adolescents had a lack of knowledge about anaemia. The factors causing anaemia included a lack of understanding of the benefits of consuming iron supplements, poor eating habits, inadequate sleep patterns, and heavy menstruation. The school's support in reducing the risk of anaemia includes the routine distribution of iron supplements every Friday through the active role of the Youth Red Cross (YRC) students. Support from family and peers is a driving factor in reducing the risk of anaemia. Conclusion: Female adolescents can be more diligent in taking iron supplements, checking their health, and adopting a healthier lifestyle to prevent anaemia.

Abstract

Objective: Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV) is a common complication in patients undergoing spinal anesthesia. One of the interventions to reduce PONV is the application of a 30° head-up position, while maintaining patients in the supine position after spinal anesthesia may lead to high spinal block. The head-up position utilizes gravity to suppress the gastroesophageal reflex that triggers PONV. This study aims to analyze the effect of a 30° head-up position on the reduction of PONV. Methods: The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest–posttest control group approach. The sample was obtained using a non-probability purposive sampling technique, involving 32 respondents divided into three groups. The inclusion criteria were postoperative spinal anesthesia patients experiencing moderate to severe PONV. The independent variable in this study was the 30° head-up position, while the dependent variable was the level of PONV. Data were collected using the RINVR observation sheet and analyzed with a paired-sample t-test. Ethical approval for this study was obtained from Mardi Waluyo General Hospital, Blitar. Results: The results of the paired t-test showed a decrease in the mean PONV scores between the pretest and posttest in the control group, from 3.55 to 1.88. In the 30° head-up intervention group, the mean PONV scores decreased from 6.13 to 1.25 between the pretest and posttest. Conclusion: The paired t-test analysis revealed that both groups demonstrated a significant difference between pretest and posttest PONV scores. The control group showed a reduction in mean PONV scores from 3.55 to 1.88, while the 30° head-up intervention group demonstrated a greater reduction, from 6.13 to 1.25. Both groups obtained a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant effect of the intervention. Accordingly, the research hypothesis (H1) was accepted.

Abstract

Objective: The largest healthcare workforce (nurses) has a significant impact on efforts to maintain and improve the quality of healthcare services. Nurses' behavior in providing services impacts healthcare services. Information suggests that there are still complaints about nurses' ethical behavior and caring attitudes toward patients. The purpose of this study was to analyze ethical behavior and caring among nurses in hospitals in Bandung Regency. Method: Quantitative research method, descriptive correlation type, cross-sectional approach. The population was 369 nurses, the sample calculation was determined using the Lameshaw formula of 44 nurses selected by stratified random sampling. Data collection (primary) used the distribution of nurse ethical behavior questionnaires (Cronbach Alpha value 0.996) and nurse caring questionnaires (Cronbach Alpha value 0.981). The research data used univariate analysis (frequency distribution calculation) and bivariate analysis using chi-square. Results: The majority (63.6%) of nurses exhibited poor ethical behavior, while nearly half (34.4%) exhibited moderately good ethical behavior. Most (63.6%) of nurses exhibited moderately good caring behavior, while a small proportion (20.5%) exhibited poor caring behavior. There was a significant relationship (p-value 0.000) between ethical behavior and caring behavior in nurses. The better the ethical behavior of nurses, the better their caring behavior. Conclusion: It is crucial for hospitals and nursing institutions to create a conducive work environment that supports the implementation of ethics, inseparable from caring behavior. Training for nurses is needed to improve understanding of ethical and caring behavior in daily practice, as well as further research to explore effective strategies for enhancing ethical and caring behavior in nurses to improve service quality as a culture of nursing care.
