This paper aims to discuss Indonesian Qualification Frameworks (IQFs) holistically. Today, we are being exposed to the discussions on IQFs through many socialization programs and government publications. As education practitioners, we have to be familiar with universal concepts of National Qualifications Framework (NQF) which most pioneers of NQF hold. It is not enough only having that, moreover, this paper presents other essential points about NQF and, specifically for Indonesian context, those are the potential benefits, the reasons of formulating IQFs, NQFs across countries, and further issues. I realize that this paper has not successfully contextualized into ELT as IQFs has recently been developed. However, this paper is significant engagement to IQFs for successful implementation.

Curriculum development as the guide to instructional implementation should be able to ‘bridge the gaps’ of the needs among the parties in teaching learning process. Needs analysis is then a crucial step in curriculum development. It includes the needs of the intitution, the target needs, and for the most, the learners’ needs. Indonesian curriculum may change as the result of the current situation or policy, yet the concern remain the same, that is to identify needs and accomodate those needs. Introduction on curriculum development, a brief review on ESP, discussion on needs analysis, and reflection of the curriculum development in Indonesia related to needs analysis would be delivered in this article.

This paper overviews the use of portfolios as potential “source” in publishing journal applied in Academic Writing course. The first part presents the idea behind the use the students’ Academic Writing’s portfolio in preparing the students’ publication. The students work with their portfolio project, meanwhile the teacher takes part as the editor who asses and evaluate the students’ best portfolio. The second part, the project is initiated by stating the objective of the project where the students are to produce one good article at the end of the Academic Writing course as the final product. Both teacher and the students are engaged that the main purpose of the course is to produce an academic article, therefore during the teaching and learning process, the students are given an intense and comprehensive discussion about academic writing as the core subject as well as the practicing and revising the students’ work as the feedback. The students practice on quoting, paraphrasing, referencing, and summarizing in their writing. Finally, the teacher revises the students’work in every meeting until the final draft. An important aspect to do is also dealing with ISBN (International standard book number) procedures as one of requirement in publishing a book. Unfortunately, the recent online procedure of ISBN was very helpful which enables the teacher to publish the edited students’ portfolio in to a book.

Besides the Law number 12/2012 article 1, the higher education curriculum for study program is also mentioned in Presidential Decree No. 8/2012 about Indonesian Qualification Framework (IQF) and Permendikbud Number 73/2013. It brings some impacts on several areas of education system, including curriculum in higher education, standard of workers’ competences and also the wage system. For LPTK, the level 6 of IQF which describes the generic competences in detail as learning outcome (LO) can be a guide for the institution in redeveloping curriculum. Clearly mentioned that study program must design, implement and evaluate the curriculum based on IQF. The problem is IQF is still oriented mostly on recognition of qualifications meanwhile the requirements in designing academic oriented curriculum is still referred to Kepmendikbud No. 232 Tahun 2000 dan No. 045 Tahun 2002. therefore, implementing IQF in redeveloping curriculum for teachers education programs needs time to adapt curricula towards learning outcomes.

This study aims to reveal the kinship relationship of Javanese and Gayo languages seen from some vocabulary similarities, as well as estimate the time separation with the run of error. The method used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative with the techniques refer to note. This research data is a vocabulary in BJ and BG obtained from various written sources and informant interview. From 200 words Swadesh to BJ and BG there are 13% ie 25 words pairs of relatives. These data provide evidence that BJ and BG are not close relatives because the core vocabulary equation is less than 36% or part of sub-grouping. But the language of both comes from the same pilum or stock. Both languages have identical word pairs that are all similar phonemes of 16 relatives couples; 12 relatives couples have a phonemic correspondence; 9 relatives couples who are phonetically similar; and 13 relatives couples who have a different phoneme. The time of split of both languages was 3,393 thousands of years ago. It is thought that this second language was a single language about 3.4 thousands years ago and is thought to have begun to separate from a proto language about the 5th century BC. It is estimated that the age of both languages is a single language on 4,712 + 335 years ago and at 5,047+335 years ago.

The present study aims to seek the stages of how young learners forming their questions. It is believed that in making the questions, learners are going trough several developments until they can create the question perfectly. Stages from Pienemann, Johnston & Brindley (1988) were used as the developmental classification of question formation. While Richards’ (1973) Errors stages were used in analyzing the errors of question formation. Two students with different genders were taken as the participants with narration manuscripts as the data collection. The results were very surprising; both learners could perform complex question formations with only few errors. Though they are young learners, structuring a complex question seemed not difficult for them. However, the more difficult the question formats, the more errors the students made. They students commonly simplified the questions format, which made the formats sometimes, went wrong. From this interesting result, It is expected that this study can be an initial effort to conduct bigger and wider area of research in the future.
