Abstract

Analysis of Risk Factors of Neonatal Asphyxia in Labuang Baji Hospital, Makassar, 2021. Asphyxia was the second leading cause of neonatal death in Indonesia in 2019, with 5,464 cases reported. Asphyxia occurs due to inadequate blood flow or gas exchange to or from the fetus in newborns. If not promptly and adequately addressed, this condition can damage vital organs. This study aims to identify the risk factors influencing the incidence of neonatal asphyxia at RSUD Labuang Baji Makassar. The research design employed is an observational analytic approach with a case-control method. Sampling was conducted using purposive sampling techniques with secondary data from patient medical records. The sample consisted of 47 cases and 47 controls, and analysis was performed using chi-square tests and odds ratios. The study found a p-value <0.05 for the association between asphyxia and maternal anemia, premature rupture of membranes (PROM), and low birth weight (LBW), with odds ratios of 3.410, 3.872, 7.451, and 7.765, respectively. The p-value >0.05 indicated no significant association between asphyxia and maternal age, preeclampsia, parity, and mode of delivery. This study concludes that maternal anemia, premature rupture of membranes (PROM), low birth weight (LBW), and gestational age are risk factors for neonatal asphyxia at RSUD Labuang Baji Makassar in 2021.

Abstract

Diaphyseal fractures of the tibia and fibula often occur due to traffic accidents. Bone fractures can heal well with proper treatment. However, many cases that are neglected lead to complications such as malunion, particularly in developing countries. Malunion occurs when a fractured bone heals with the fragments in improper positions. Malunion in bone fractures can lead to complications such as decreased bone or limb function, deformities, pain, non-union, avascular necrosis, and limb shortening. This case study reports on a 29-year-old woman with malunion in the tibia and fibula due to a neglected bone fracture for eight months. Symptoms include pain, deformities, and limb shortening. The management involved open osteotomy and ORIF (open reduction with internal fixation), demonstrating that ORIF and osteotomy are successful surgical techniques for correcting malunion in this case. The goals of surgical treatment for malunion are to restore function, reduce discomfort, and correct visually apparent abnormalities.

Abstract

The use of drugs during pregnancy can cause problems for the fetus. Prolonged use of synthetic drugs and herbal products risks causing accumulation in the fetus, while the fetus does not yet have a perfectly functioning metabolic system, which has the potential to cause teratogenic effects. Beligo (Benincasa hispida (Thunb.) Cogn.) is a plant that has the potential to be developed as a herbal medicine. This study aims to determine the teratogenic effect of ethanol extract of beligo fruit on the fetuses of female mice. The method included extraction by maceration and teratogenic effect testing using 16 mice, which were divided into four treatment groups—group I was given Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (Na-CMC) 1% and groups II, III, and IV were given ethanol extract of beligo fruit flesh at doses of 140 mg, 280 mg, and 560 mg/kg BW, respectively, orally. The results showed that the ethanol extract of beligo fruit flesh at 140 mg, 280 mg and 560 mg/kgBW in mouse fetuses was 100% complete same with Na-CMC 1% as a negative control. In conclusion, the ethanol extract of beligo fruit at 140 mg, 280 and 560 mg/kgBW had no teratogenic effect.

Abstract

The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), as a predictor of inflammation obtained from the results between absolute neutrophils and absolute lymphocytes, shows an increased level in various diseases that trigger inflammation, especially in pneumonia with complications and a higher mortality rate. This study aimed to analyze NLR levels in children (aged 12-59 months) with pneumonia and non-pneumonia (upper respiratory tract infection/URTI) at Ananda’s Mother and Child Hospital in Makassar City. This study used an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 139 samples from children (aged 12-59 months), divided into pneumonia and non-pneumonia (URTI) samples. These samples had routine blood test results and complete medical record data. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate tests (Independent T Test). In this study, the average NLR in pneumonia samples was lower than non-pneumonia (URTI), and there was also no significant difference between NLR levels in pneumonia and non-pneumonia (URTI). Therefore, this study's conclusion shows no significant increase in NLR levels of children (aged 12-59 months) with pneumonia.

Abstract

Modern lifestyles, which tend towards instant satisfaction, have significantly influenced society, leading to an increasing trend toward unhealthy lifestyles. This research aimed to find out the relationship between screen time and sleep quality with cardiorespiratory fitness in medical students at UIN Alauddin Makassar. The research design in this study was quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was preclinic medical education students at UIN Alauddin Makassar. The samples were chosen with the purposive sampling technique with 140 samples. Data was collected by filling out a form in the Questionnaire Screen Time of Adolescents (QueST) for screen time, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire for sleep quality and cardiorespiratory fitness measured by carrying out the Harvard Step Test. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate tests and the Spearman rho test in the SPSS application. The results of bivariate analysis between the variables screen time and sleep quality showed that screen time had a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and sleep quality had a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). In conclusion, there was a significant relationship between screen time, sleep quality and cardiorespiratory fitness in medical students at UIN Alauddin Makassar.

Abstract

The School Health Program policy was initiated by the Indonesian government in 2014. However, by 2021, student health service coverage was still suboptimal. The Healthy Schools Campaign Program was introduced in 2022 as an alternative policy to revitalize the School Health Programme. The study aimed to analyze the Healthy School Campaign Program using the health policy triangle framework, which includes actors, content, process, and context. This research uses qualitative methods with secondary data sourced from electronic document searches. The main actors in this policy involve official government institutions, supported by collaboration with non-government partners. Policy selection is based on situational, structural, cultural and international contextual factors. The program content focuses on physical health, healthy nutrition, and student immunization. The conclusion is that the selection of content is influenced by how actors identify health problems in the early stages of policy preparation. Implementation of this program requires a clear collaboration system as a reference for its implementation in educational units. Teacher and parent involvement is also very important to increase the effectiveness and sustainability of the program.
