Abstract

Background: Ultrasonography (USG) radiological examination can be an early detection of breast tumors before they develop into malignancy. The aim of our study was to determine the accuracy of USG examination in diagnosing breast cancer at Prima Medika Hospital. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study from January to December 2021 at Prima Medika Hospital Denpasar in patients who had symptoms of breast cancer had breast USG examinations and biopsy examinations of 51 samples. We collected data by tracing medical records and in descriptive analysis and cross-tabulation analysis to determine the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive values and negative predictive values. Results: 72.5% of 51 patients were over 36 years old, 47.1% symptoms of a lump in their left breast. USG examination in detecting breast cancer has a sensitivity of 90.9%, a specificity of 93.1% then a positive predictive value of 92.9% and a negative predictive value of 90.1%.Conclusion: USG examination has a high accuracy in diagnosing breast cancer. Radiology specialists are expected to use USG examination as an early detection tool before conducting a histopathological gold standard examination.

Abstract

Background: Slaughterhouse workers have a risk of contracting leptospirosis because of daily contact with animal blood and urine. The purpose of the study was to describe the incidence of leptospirosis and measure the level of knowledge of workers and examine the relationship between demographic characteristics, the knowledge and the prevention behavior of leptospirosis. Methods: All technical staff of Slaughterhouse at Salatiga (30 people) were selected as participants. Data was collected in July 2016 through structured interviews. Microscopic Agglutination Test (MAT) was used to test the workers serum for leptospirosis. Data were analyzed using the Fisher-exact test.  Result: According to the findings, most respondents were male, between the ages of 26 and 50, and had low education background. Most respondents are unaware that leptospirosis is a serious disease and 73.3 percent of respondents had never heard of leptospirosis. The majority of participants reported negative MAT values. The majority of Slaughterhouse workers have never heard of leptospirosis and have little awareness of leptospirosis preventive methods, so they may be at risk of having the infection. Conclusion: There is no leptospirosis incidence in Slaughterhouse Salatiga, however, one worker had a history of leptospirosis exposure. There was no significant relationship between age, gender, and education level with knowledge and behavior, but the knowledge was significantly correlated with leptospirosis prevention behavior. Slaughterhouse officers are advised to receive health education about leptospirosis prevention to increase awareness of the need for self-protection in the workplace.

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of death among people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide. Despite the availability of highly effective treatment for decades, Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major health problem in Nigeria due to the increasing association between HIV and TB observed over the past three decades when HIV was discovered. However, the proportion of TB and or TB/HIV co-infected patients who have successful TB treatment outcome is not well known. This study determined the treatment outcome of TB/HIV co-infected patients with HIV negative patients at Federal Medical Centre Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. Methods: A retrospective study that used secondary data from Directly Observed Treatment Short (DOTS) course center (APIN Unit). 268 cases were considered and the period under review covers from January, 2019 to December, 2021. Results: Out of the total 268 TB cases reviewed, the HIV prevalence rate was 28.7 %. More than two-third (78.4%) of HIV-negative patients had successful treatment compared to 68.9% of HIV positive patients that were treated successful.  Out of the 77 HIV co-infected patients, 10.4% defaulted, 14.2% had died, and 6.5% failed treatment compared to HIV-negative patients amongst whom 15.2% defaulted, 4.8% died and 1.6% failed treatment. TB/HIV co-infection was significantly associated with poor treatment outcome (AOR: 1.158; 95 % CI 0.617-2.173; p = 0.648).Conclusion: The favorable treatment outcome of HIV-negative patients is more than that of HIV-positive patients and the most probable predictable factor responsible is the CD4 count of patient; indicating that TB/HIV co-infection has remained a major public health problem in Benue state. Therefore, there is the need for sustained strengthening and expansion of the national TB/HIV programmes.

Abstract

Background: Nutritional adequacy is one of the factors that affect the health of pregnant women and fetuses. Objective to describe the nutritional adequacy of adolescent pregnant women in Salatiga City. Methods: this study uses a mix method. The study population was all teenage pregnant women in Salatiga City. The sample is all pregnant women aged 12-16 years through total sampling technique. The instruments used were food records 2x24 hours and the SQ-FFQ form last one month for quantitative research, pens, recording tools and qualitative research log books. Quantitative data were analyzed using NutriSurvey 2007 software, qualitative data were analyzed through coding.Result: The level of macronutrient adequacy of adolescent pregnant women in Salatiga City mostly has a deficit of weight and more, namely carbohydrates (57.14%) and fat (85.71%). Most of the micronutrient adequacy levels are deficits, namely potassium (85.71%), calcium (100%), zinc (100%), iron (85.71%), folate (85.71%), vitamin B1 (100%) and vitamin E (57.14%).Conclusion: Research on the level of macronutrients adequacy of adolescent pregnant women in Salatiga City is mostly in the category of heavy and overweight deficits, namely carbohydrates and fats above 50%. The level of micronutrients adequacy in most of the deficit categories, namely potassium, calcium, zinc, iron, folate, vitamin B1 and vitamin E is above 50%. This is influenced by the imbalance of food intake consumed during pregnancy. This also results in weight gain of pregnant women not being ideal for weight gain during pregnancy, even though they have good nutritional status.
