Abstract

Introduction: University X is one of the institutions where tobacco-free areas are required in a university setting where teaching and learning activities are highly regulated. However, the implementation of tobacco-free was only implemented in a few faculties, and, the whole academic community of University X has not entirely complied with the regulation. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of Tobacco-Free Areas at University X.Methods: This study used a qualitative research method to examine the implementation of smoke-free areas at University X. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, observations, and other supporting documentation. There were 13 research informants, including Deans/Vice Deans from four faculties, the Academic Director of Student Affairs, alumni, lecturers, and students of University X. This study examined communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic organization policies. Results: This study found that university administrators never communicated directly or indirectly regarding Tobacco-Free Areas regulation. It is still neither excellent nor adequate, based on the resources available for human resource compliance and infrastructure availability. In terms of disposition, numerous parties fully support the execution of the smoke-free policy. However, the implementing officers/supervisors of the smoke-free areas at University X were less steadfast. This is demonstrated by the absence of a bureaucratic framework at University X in implementing and supervising Tobacco-Free compliances. Conclusion: Tobacco-free areas had been implemented at University X although they were not yet complete and optimal. It is possible to infer that this was not a priority at University X because conflicts of interest might hamper this regulation, resulting in lacking clarity, and sustainability.

Abstract

Introduction: Shifts in disease patterns are a double burden on world health, such as breast cancer in young women < 40 years old with an Age-Standardized Incidence Rate reaching 8.2 or 100,000 world population. Breast Self Examination (BSE) has a meaningful role in the initial detection of breast cancer, so it can prevent cancer from delayed detection and increase women's life expectancy as a risk group. BSE practice should have been routinely implemented at the age of female students. This research aims to determine related factors to BSE practices in female undergraduate students aged 18-24 in Tembalang Subdistrict. Methods: This observational analytic research uses a cross-sectional approach with female undergraduate students aged 18-24 years in Tembalang Subdistrict as a population. There were 200 samples with a 1:1 ratio of groups that do BSE and those that do not. This research used a questionnaire with online data collection via Google Forms, then imposed univariate and bivariate analysis with a chi-square test. Results: Family history of breast cancer (ρ=0.001), information exposure (ρ=0.000), and awareness (ρ=0.007) were related to BSE practice in female undergraduate students aged 18-24 years. Conclusion: It is essential to provide a valid source of information on social media as the most frequently used information exposure media about breast cancer and ways of initial detection, so every woman can have awareness, whether she has a family history of breast cancer or not.

Abstract

Introduction: Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The prevalence of pulmonary TB is increasing every year. The previous studies found that knowledge, physical condition of the house, gender and education level are the well-known of factors associated with the TB cases. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of Pulmonary TB at Puskesmas Maja, Lebak Regency, Banten Province, Indonesia. Methods: Case control study design was used in this study. Total 20 cases and controls were recruited. Cases are individuals aged over 15 years with pulmonary tuberculosis who were confirmed by sputum examination with acid-fast staining (BTA+) showing the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Controls were individuals with negative sputum examination results. A purposive sampling technique was used to find the defined-case and control groups. A study questionnaire was used to collect the determinant factors and house condition parameter was measured directly. The chi-square test was used to determine the association of each variable related to TB incidence. Results: The demographic data showed that the majority of TB patients in Puskesmas Maja were male who had an elementary to high school education level and had a low level of knowledge and unhealthy physical conditions of the house. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between gender, education level, knowledge, and physical condition of the house with the incidence of pulmonary TB at Puskesmas Maja, Lebak Regency. Conclusion: This study concludes that all four variables have a significant relationship with the occurrence of Pulmonary TB at Puskesmas Maja, Lebak Regency. The results of this study can be a source of reference for further research and also become the basis for overcoming pulmonary TB in Banten Province in particular and in Indonesia
