Abstract

Tuberculosis is one of the top 10 leading causes of death in the world. In 2017 an estimated 10.4 million people suffered from TB and 1.3 million people died of the disease. TB is a disease based on the region that has a spatial dependence (correlation between geographic regions), therefore its restraint must also consider the spatial distribution patterns of the case that can be learned through spatial analysis. The purpose of this research was to analyze spatially the distribution of BTA positive pulmonary TB cases based on population density, coverage of healthy houses, altitude, and the number of poor families in Kota Kupang 2018. The type of research used in this study was quantitative descriptive with Geographic Information System (GIS) approach. The sample in this study consisted of all new cases of BTA positive pulmonary TB in 2018 amounted to 451 cases. Spatial analysis showed that the BTA positive pulmonary TB cases distributed to spread the subdistricts in Kota Kupang which was a region of low altitude (<150 masl) with the highest distribution in the areas with high population density, high coverage of the healthy house, and the high number of poor families. It calls for networking between the government and the community in the prevention of BTA positive pulmonary TB.

Abstract

This study aims to map the spread of stunting cases based on the availability of clean water. This study used descriptive method to see the frequency of disease by place using Geographic Information System (GIS). The population in this study was children under five years diagnosed with stunting. All population was sampled (total sampling) with a total of 119 cases. The results showed that stunting spread throughout the work area of Bati Primary Health Care (PHC) with the availability of 67 water sources. Most widely used sources were wells (46 in total) and located in areas with an altitude of >1000 meters above sea level. Intensive government stunting efforts are necessary as stunting is a nutritional health issue prioritized in the National Medium-Term Development Plan period 2019-2024. Improving the education of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) for the community and strengthening commitment and cooperation with relevant parties are required to address the problem of adequate nutrition intake, and water supply in the community.

Abstract

Sanitation and personal hygiene in the preparation and distribution of food are essential to food traders in order to avoid causing the contamination of microorganisms in food. One cause of food insecurity is the contamination of food with toxins produced by the fungus Aspergillus flavus. Meatballs are a popular food in the Indonesian community and are always served together with tomato sauce. Those who often pay no attention to personal hygiene, merchandise, tools, and their surroundings can potentially be contaminated by the fungus Aspergillus flavus. The study was to identify the sanitation and personal hygiene of the workers and the properties of the fungus Aspergillus flavus on the meaty tomato sauce used in the Oebobo District of Kupang City. This study aims to determine the description of the sanitation and personal hygiene of the handlers and the content of Aspergillus flavus in tomato sauce for meatball trade in Oebobo District, Kupang City. This study used a descriptive research method with a cross-sectional design. The sample of this study consisted of 10 meatball traders and 10 tomato sauce for meatball merchants in Oebobo District, Kupang City. The results of the study most of the respondents had poor hygiene, namely 5 respondents. A total of 4 respondents had good sanitation equipment and 4 respondents had poor sanitation in the premises. From the results of laboratory tests, there were 2 samples of tomato sauce containing the fungus Aspergillus flavus. The conclusion from the results of this study there were 2 positive samples of the Aspergillus flavus fungus. This is most likely because the two respondents have poor hygiene, equipment sanitation, and sanitary premises that do not meet health requirements.

Abstract

Treatment of leprosy sufferers aims to break the chain of leprosy transmission. The success of leprosy treatment depends on early detections of the patient, adherence to medication, community stigma and the role of health workers. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between medication adherence, community stigma and the role of health workers in the successful treatment of leprosy patients at the Maubesi Public Health Center, North Central Timor Regency, in 2019. This research is a qualitative research. The research informants were 13 people consisting of 5 key informants and 8 supporting informants. Data processing and analysis techniques use thematic analysis. The results of the research at Maubesi Public Health Center show that the informants comply with every rule of leprosy treatment management, both short term for PB leprosy and long term for MB leprosy. Although there is a stigma and negative treatment from the community towards people with leprosy, such as the assumption that leprosy cannot be curred and the community is afraid to shake hands with people with leprosy, it does not interfere with the patient to be afraid and retreat in undergoing leprosy treatment. This is supported by the role of health workers in the discovery and treatment of leprosy patients. Patients with good support from health workers are more obedient in taking treatment. Suggestion for the Health Center to increase education about leprosy to reduce stigma in the community.

Abstract

One of the populations at risk of HIV-AIDS is Men Sex with Men (MSM) because of unsafe sexual behavior, namely through anal and oral sex. One of the preventions of HIV-AIDS in MSM is the consistent use of condoms every time they have sex. There are various factors that influence the use of condom. This study aims to analyze various factors associated with condom use in MSM in the IMOF Community to prevent HIV-AIDS in 2020. The research’s design is a quantitative with a cross-sectional study design. The sampling method was carried out by simple random sampling technique and the sample size was 96 MSM with a questionnaire as the instrument. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square. The results showed that there was a relationship between knowledge (ρ = 0.002), attitude (ρ=0.000), information exposure (ρ=0.042), availability of condoms (ρ=0.022), partner support (ρ=0.000) and support from friends in the community (ρ=0.009) with the use of a condom. From this study, it can conclude that knowledge, attitudes, information exposure, availability of condoms, support from partners, and support from friends in the community are a factor that influences condom use among MSM in the IMOF Community in Kupang City in preventing HIV-AIDS. It hoped that MSM could maintain and increase their knowledge, actively seek information about HIV-AIDS, independently provide condoms to be used, strengthen relationships with partners and friends in the community to help in HIV-AIDS prevention efforts.

This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge and perception with stigma perceived by adolescents toward people living with HIV/AIDS or PLWHA. This type of research was an observational study with a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted in Aesesa Sub-district including Tedamude, Tedakisa, Dhawe, Nggolombay, Towak, Nggolonio, Waekokak, Mbay II, Mbay I, Tonggurambang, Marapokot, Danga, Lape, Labolewa, Olaia, Ngegedhawe, Aeramo, and Nangadhero Villages. Data collection was carried out in April - May 2021. The population of this study was 4,122 adolescents aged 15 to 19 years. The sample size was 96 people selected by using simple random sampling. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. Hypothesis testing used chi-square with a significance level of =0.05. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge and stigma (p=0.003<0.05). Meanwhile, perception was not related to stigma (p-value=0,231>0,05). There is a need for collaboration between educational institutions and the health office in improving reproductive health education, especially related to sexually transmitted diseases.
