Abstract

Lower back pain felt by pregnant women as gestational age increases is physiological. The back pain that mothers feel is caused by pressure due to the growth of the uterus which causes changes in the pregnant woman's body posture, resulting in pressure on the curvature of the spine. Using a gymball during pregnancy will stimulate postural reflexes and maintain the muscles that support the spine. This woody tree plant has a very important genus, namely Cinnamomum or cinnamon. Cinnamon contains essential oils (cinnamylaldehyde, eugenol, terpenes), fatty starches, and tannic substances. Likewise with one of the derivatives of the eugenol compound, namely isoeugenol, which can be used as a raw material for antiseptic and analgesic drugs. This case study uses the form of a case study with SOAP method documentation. The subjects of this case study were 3 pregnant women and 3 postpartum mothers in the Gisting work area, Tanggamus Regency providing continuous midwifery care. The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of the gymball technique for treating back pain in pregnant women and administering herbal cinnamon decoction for healing perineal wounds in postpartum women. The results of this research have a quite significant influence.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby's life is the main recommendation of WHO to support optimal infant growth and maternal-child health. However, the success rate still varies, especially between urban and rural areas. One of the main factors influencing the success of exclusive breastfeeding is the husband's support in the form of emotional, informational, and practical support. Research shows that mothers who receive active support from their husbands are more likely to succeed in exclusive breastfeeding. Social, economic, and cultural differences influence the pattern of this support across regions. In addition, factors such as education level, maternal employment status, and cultural norms contribute to the low prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding in developing countries. Mothers who work in the formal sector face greater challenges in maintaining exclusive breastfeeding due to limited maternity leave and lactation facilities. Therefore, the involvement of husbands is not only important in supporting mothers at home, but also in policy advocacy at the workplace. This study aims to analyze the role of husbands in supporting the success of exclusive breastfeeding and the differences in support between urban and rural areas. The results of the study are expected to be the basis for health policies and family-based education programs to increase the success rate of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Antenatal depression is a common mental health problem among pregnant women and can negatively impact both the mother and the fetus. One protective factor believed to reduce the risk of depression is prenatal attachment, the emotional bond between mother and fetus during pregnancy. At the Sungai Jingah Community Health Center, a study found that some pregnant women complained of anxiety, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, and excessive worry regarding the condition of the fetus and the delivery process. Ten respondents admitted to frequently feeling anxious and demotivated, having experienced sleep disturbances and prolonged feelings of sadness. This study aimed to determine the relationship between prenatal attachment and the risk of antenatal depression among pregnant women in the Sungai Jingah Community Health Center's work area. The study used a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 30 pregnant women was selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were the Prenatal Attachment Inventory (PAI) to measure maternal attachment to the fetus and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) to measure the risk of depression. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a moderate prenatal attachment category (60%). The risk of antenatal depression was found to be 70% non-risk. Chi-square analysis showed a significant association between prenatal attachment and the risk of antenatal depression (p < 0.05). Prenatal attachment is associated with the risk of antenatal depression. Mothers with low prenatal attachment are at higher risk of depression during pregnancy. Interventions to improve prenatal attachment are needed during pregnancy to prevent antenatal depression.

Abstract

Emotional development is a crucial aspect of child growth that determines long-term mental health, social competence, and academic achievement. Screen exposure and nutritional status are key modifiable factors that may influence children’s socio-emotional outcomes, yet limited evidence exists regarding their combined effects in urban Indonesian settings. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Padang City, Indonesia, from January to July 2025, involving 56 children aged 5–10 years. Emotional development was assessed using a validated questionnaire (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.87). Screen exposure was categorized as ?2 hours/day or >2 hours/day based on caregiver reports. Height-for-age and weight-for-age were measured using WHO Anthro software. Data were analyzed with Chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression to identify predictors of emotional development. Among the participants, 67.9% had screen exposure >2 hours/day, 26.8% had abnormal height-for-age, and 32.1% had abnormal weight-for-age. Overall, 30.4% demonstrated poor emotional development. Multivariate analysis showed that screen exposure >2 hours/day was significantly associated with poor emotional development (AOR = 4.84; 95% CI: 1.37–17.14; p = 0.014). Abnormal height-for-age (AOR = 3.76; 95% CI: 1.04–13.53; p = 0.043) and abnormal weight-for-age (AOR = 3.42; 95% CI: 1.02–11.42; p = 0.048) were also independent predictors. Sex was not significantly associated. Excessive screen exposure and abnormal nutritional status were significant determinants of poor emotional development among children in Padang City. Interventions should prioritize parental regulation of screen use, promotion of interactive play, and nutritional improvement strategies. Collaborative efforts between families, schools, health professionals, and policymakers are essential to enhance children’s socio-emotional well-being.
