Abstract

Any curriculum for any level of educational program should be based upon national standards. It is in order to educate students to be good citizens as it is for early childhood education. Besides, the development of a curriculum should pay attention to political ideology, philosophy of knowledge, social context and learning models as well. So, will the curriculum of playgroup apply those aspects. In particular, it should also emphasize psychological aspects or stages of a child development. Criteria for a curriculum development are content, process, competencies, quality of teachers, and resources for learning.

Abstract

The growing problems in human life have changed the living value. The education institutions are expected to equip the student with life skills relevant to their daily problems. This article puts forward the importance of the life skills and discusses how the life skills should be developed for elementary school student. Further, the role of Elementary School Teacher Program (PGSD) in training and preparing the elementary school teacher candidates is also discussed.

Abstract

Nonformal education plays equal roles in educating people. However, in practice more attention and efforts are given to the formal education. This article discusses how to strengthen the role of non-formal education by enhancing communities’ participation. This could be successfully done if the personnel of nonformal institutions are dedicated, honest, innovative, dilligent, and intelligent. The empowerement of communities to support the non-formal education activities will improve the effectiveness and the efficiency of non-formal education programs.

Abstract

The environmental problems become interesting issues in Indonesia nowadays. A lot of recent natura environmental dangers have worried the government and the people. This article discusses the roles of education, particularly out of school; education, in educating people to be alert of these environmental problems and actively participates in protecting the natural environment. Out of school education is considered effective in shifting the paradigm of Indonesia citizens about the natural environmental and changing the destructive attitude to be constructive behavior.

Abstract

Many kinds of traditional value in Indonesia are useful for human life and some of the local traditional value can be adopted at national level. This article describes how PIIL Pesenggiri as a local value in Lampung could disseminate and only in Lampung itself but it can be adopted and developed in other regions. PIIL Pesenggiri will be taken as a way of life to create peaceful societies. Based on the experiences, PIIL Pesenggiri can be diffused widely through non formal education.

Abstract

To succeed the national development to achieve its goal, the community participation plays a very strategic role. This article discusses a number of models, methods, and techniques how to motivate the communities as human resources to take part in the development. The models introduced and discussed include Laku and SL-PHT. The strength and the weakness of each model are described thoroughly considering andragogy and continuous learning are the principles in community development.

Abstract

Based on the 1945 Constitution, the government is obliged to provide annual budget for conducting national education at amount of 20% from APBN and APBD. The implementation of this regulation is controversial and has not been done fully. This article discusses the provision of education budget by reviewing the rule of region in contributing there local budget for education development in their regions. It is concluded that in general the contribution of each region is still low. The article suggests that the local governments should improve their policy in allocating their budget for education development to improve the quality as well as the quantity of education in their own regions.

Abstract

As global social, economic and politic competition grows sharper, education becomes an important source of competitive advantage. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is one of the main part for learning process improvement in Indonesia. Getting the best from ICT depends on several variables, including the appropriate design of hard technology, soft technology, and content; the training and attitude of instructors; and the realization that different students have different requirements. But we must respond critically and wisely. ICT is produced by some countries with several goals to get advantages from developing countries which have placed ICT as an important factor for human welfare improvement, closely linking with educational system. A decision made to use ICT in learning system must consider several factors consciously, such as socio-cultural and economic capabilities of our society. That is an approach to maintain our goals as free as developed countries in using ICT for education.

Abstract

This research was intended to find out what and how the independent learning competency of the students of State University of Jakarta. Data were collected by using questionnaires. The scope of study was limited to the students of School of Education, State University of Jakarta. Samples were chosen by using purposive sampling technique. Research findings show that: (1) based on independent learning method, all students of State University of Jakarta can implement independent learning, (2) based on the goals of independent learning the students are expected to have responsibility to themselves and the implementation of independent learning. Further, this research gives some suggestions such as: (1) university, especially School of Education should provide infrastructure, trainings, and compatible components; (2) the lectures should have appropriate knowledge and concept in independent learning; and (3) the students should practice constructivism and active learning as well as to learn without depending on other people.
