Abstract

Nowdays, we have a lot of corruption, proverty, injustice, and bribery in our county. These symptoms show the attitude of our society which tend to be selfish so that they less pay attention to their surroundings, whereas our country known as prosperous country and the people are friendly and polite. Youth as a part of society who will be the next leader of this country, their nationalism should be awaken in order that their enthusiasm of nationally is strong. If it is not anticipated, that condition will make their enthusiasm of nationaly annihilated. Meanwhile, it will be needed a leader which have perception of nationally leadership to build perception of nationality which empty into national integration. It means that how important it is to strenghten enthusiasm of nationality to youth because they are the hope of nation and state to continue estafette of nation leadership. One of the ways to plant enthusiasm of nationality is through literary learning with nationalism theme. Literary teaching at school can be mean to make enthusiasm of nationality better by introducing and conveying masterpiece in Indonesia literary words to students. So, this paper will also see literary words which choosen in literature handbooks whether nationalism topic have an attention.

Abstract

This paper focuses on analyzing the novel entitled Anna and the King using the feminist cultural deconstructive approach. The purposes to dig out the hidden meaning contained in the novel through deconstructive approach from a feminist perspective about two different cultures (British and Siam) that interact for a long time. The result shours that each side -Anna the British woman and King Maha Mongkut of Siam- deconstructs and is deconstructed in the process of interaction. Both, in the long run, have a blend of cultures for their own betterment and for the betterment of the people around them.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the values of multiculturalism and social identity that is reflected in the Putri Cina novel by Sindhunata. The results show that the multicultural values appeared to start sowing by the author. Nevertheless, the people of Indonesia can’t be said as a multicultural society, because there are many cultural praxis that are not based on tolerance and equality. In addition, even during a binary opposition between the dominant and minority. In the Putri Cina novel reflected how the severity of the identity problem of discrimination in Indonesia, namely the Chinese in front of the Javanese. Sindhunata relatively cautious in criticizing the racial issue, through reflection the main character, so that dialogue is the projection of the embryo as well as the spirit of multiculturalism should not be done aloud. Nevertheless, the Putri Cina novel contains the embryo to criticize racial discrimination, with orientation on the fulfillment of the political attitude of the authorities and communities to adopt the attitude of equality. Abstract

Komunitas Melayu di Stabat adalah komunitas yang hidup berdampingan dengan berbagai komunitas lainnya. Kondisi ini menyebabkan beragamnya penggunaan bahasa dalam satu kawasan. Pada komunitas yang beragam akan terjadi peristiwa alih kode dan campur kode. Melalui metode pengamatan berpartisipasi terhadap penutur remaja diperoleh data kualitatif yang dapat menggambarkan ekspresi lingual penutur remaja dalam peristiwa alih kode dan campur kode. Alih kode yang terjadi dalam peristiwa komunikasi komunitas remaja adalah alih kode antarkalimat dan alih kode intrakalimat. Pada peristiwa campur kode muncul bentuk-bentuk campuran antara bahasa Melayu Langkat (BML) dan bahasa Indonesia (BI). Bentuk-bentuk yang bercampur itu cenderung disebabkan oleh kemiripan struktur fonologis dan morfologisnya. Bentuk-bentuk lingual yang tampak dalam interaksi komunikasi verbal remaja dengan berbagai interlokutor menunjukkan adanya bentuk-bentuk bahasa campuran, baik dalam-ranah keluarga, tetangga, maupun kekariban. Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the problems of Cinderella Complex in Lily Bart, the young and single woman character in Edith Wharton’s The House of Mirth. The concepts used in the paper are Dowling’s concept of Cinderella Complex and Wolf’s concept of Victim Feminism. The result shows that it is difficult for a young, single, orphanated, penniless woman who has been internalized by Cinderella Complex to stand on her own and free herself from the snares of the high class life style which has been her little world so far. Abstract

Woman Struggling to reach patriarchal hegemony does not happen in reality but it is happened in Indonesian literatures. One of them is Perempuan Berkalung Sorban, a novel written by Abidah El Khalieqy. The general aim of the research was described how a woman struggles patriarchal hegemony in novel. The result of research shows that Anisa, as the main character in novel, struggles to reach patriarchal hegemony in the community of a moslem boarding school (pesantren) community that place women inferiority.
