Abstract

This study explores the sustainability of the Langkat Malay Language (Bahasa MelayuLangkat abbreviated as BML) spoken by the speech community of young people based on languagechoice, language attitude, language dynamics and influential socio- cultural and socio-ecologicalfactors. 230 (two hundred and thirty) young people were used as the samples in this study. The dataneeded were obtained by documentation, survey, interview, and participatory observation methods.The findings show that there was a shift from BML to Indonesian language (BahasaIndonesia abbreviated as BI) in every domain of use and in various situations of communication.As far as BML is concerned, some internal shifts were also found. The intention to adjust the BMLforms to the forms and meanings of BI in phonological, lexical and grammatical levels wasresponsible for this. Both the internal and external factors led to the shifts of BML to BI. Theinfluential internal factors included (1) high tolerance of other ethnic groups; (2) high socialmobility of the young people; (3) the decrease in cultural traditional activities; (4) the decrease inthe concept of Mel ecology; (5) the attitude of not being observant to BML, and (6) no simultaneitybetween traditional processions and the BNL use. The external factors included (1) the new comingethnic groups, especially the ethnic group of Eja, were getting more dominant; (2) the residingpattern was getting mixed; (3) as the National Language, BI was more widely used, understood bybilinguals, gave prestige in social intercourse; and (4) there was a high interaction between thecommunity of young people and the other communities coming from different ethnic groups andspeaking different languages. Ecologically, the domains of meanings referring to particularreferents in BML went down as far as the concepts of its speakers are concerned. Such a fallresulted from (1) the limited interaction between the community of young people and the Melecology-featured entities; (2) the entities were so scarce that they were not included in the speakers’minds; (3) and the lexical concepts internalized by the speakers, as far as those entities areconcerned, were excluded in BML but included in the other languages. The shift from BML to BImade by the young speakers made BML get highly less sustainable. By referring to the criteriaintroduced by Wurm (in Crystal, 2000: 20) concerning the extinction of languages, it may be statedthat BML is already in stadium 2, that is, a language which is almost getting extinct.

Abstract

Bahasa dan adat istiadat adalah dua unsur penting penanda identitas suatu etnik. Kedua unsur ini muncul dalam sistem kekerabatan. Pada komunitas Melayu Langkat, sistem kekerabatan mengacu pada garis keturunan ibu dan garis keturunan ayah. Sistem kekerabatan dapat dibedakan berdasarkan (1) lapisan sosial dan (2) lapisan keluarga. Panggilan kekerabatan pada lapisan sosial adalah tengku, wan, datuk, aja dan orang kaya, serta encek dan tuan. Pada lapisan keluarga, komunitas Melayu memiliki 8 panggilan (sapaan) kekeluargaan sesuai dengan urutan kelahiran yaitu ulong/yong, ngah, alang, uteh, andak, oda/uda, etam, dan suncu. Hasil pengujian terhadap 230 responden membuktikan bahwa sebagian komunitas remaja tidak memahami dan tidak lagi menggunakan sapaan ini.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaanmodel Quantum Teaching terhadap kemampuan memberikan kritik pada artikel siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Morawa Tahun Pembelajaran 2015/2016. Populasi penelitian ini berjumlah 375 siswa.Dari 375 siswa tersebut, ditetapkan sampel sebanyak 39 siswa yang diambil menggunakan Purposive sampel. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimen One group pre-test post-test design. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk menjaring data adalah tes uraian.Pengujian hipotesis dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji “t”.Data yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan memberikan kritik pada artikel siswa sebelum menggunakan model Quantum Teaching tergolong dalam kategori cukup dengan nilai rata-rata (mean) yang diperoleh siswa adalah 63,90, sedangkan kemampuan memberikan kritik pada artikel siswa setelah menggunakan model Quantum Teaching tergolong baik dengan rata-rata (mean) yang diperoleh siswa 77,20. Selanjutnya uji hipotesis menunjukkan dan 6,61  2,045  pada taraf signifikan α = 0,05. Dengan demikian berarti H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima, artinya ada pengaruh model Quantum Teaching terhadap kemampuan memberikan kritik pada artikel siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Morawa Tahun Pembelajaran 2015/2016. Berdasarkan analisis data di atas dapat disimpulkanhasil pembelajaran memberikan kritik pada artikel siswa setelah menggunakan model Quantum Teaching lebih baik daripada hasil pembelajaran sebelum menggunakan model Quantum Teaching, dan proses pembelajaran setelah menggunakan model Quantum Teaching berpengaruh positif terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam memberikan kritik pada artikel.   Kata Kunci:Model Quantum Teaching, Kritik Artikel

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) Analyze how effective the use of teaching materials is based on folktales assisted with serial images. (2) Analyze how the feasibility of teaching materials based on folklore based on serial images developed to improve learning outcomes. This research uses Borg & Gel development research. Based on the results of the validity of material experts 85.42%, 85.7% design experts, and 94.44% linguists. From the results of the validation of teaching materials developed, the teaching materials based on folklore with serial images are included in the very good criteria and are declared to be effective and appropriate for use. Based on the completeness data of student learning outcomes before using the average value obtained reached 62, while after using individual completeness and classical average reached 85 with a gain score of 0.70 into the high category. And the questionnaire responses of students about the effectiveness of teaching materials reached 88% of 25 students. Based on this data teaching material based on rocky folktales is said to be effectively used in learning with the assumption that Indonesian students score higher when using material.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the development of HOTS (High Order Thinking Skill) based news text assessment instruments for for 7th Grade Students in SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Medan. The study was conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Medan. This research was conducted in the even semester of the 2018/2019 school year. This type of research is research and development or Research and Development (R&D). This research is called R&D, by adopting eight steps of R&D research according to Sugiyono (2014: 137). The results of this study indicate that students' high-level thinking skills obtained an average score of 51.42. This value is in the medium category because the standard value is met 40 <x total score ≤ 60. The measurement results of the assessment instrument based on Higher Order Thinking Skill in the dimensions of students' persuasive text knowledge obtained superior conceptual ability results with a percentage of 76% in the sufficient category, followed by factual abilities with the percentage of 60% is in the sufficient category, students 'procedural knowledge is 58% with low category, and students' knowledge that is metacognitive there are 59% with enough category. Thus, it can be stated that the eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Medan have advantages in the conceptual dimension of knowledge and the ability to think at a high level with a medium category, ie students must be accustomed to working on questions based on Higher Order Thinking Skills so that students' abilities increase.

Abstract

This study aims to develop teaching materials for writing short stories based on experience to facilitate students in writing short text. The learning approach offered by researchers is considered appropriate for writing short text material because it can help students to easily express their ideas in writing short stories by linking the material with the context of their daily lives. In addition, experience is the best teacher because from experience one can learn. Experience is a memory that is recorded and stored as a story that forms a filter of perception that ultimately guides behavior. The results of this study indicate that the effectiveness of teaching short story writing lessons based on experiences developed for 7th grade student of junior high school 2 Kejuruan Muda was stated to be more effective than student handbooks. The results of the acquisition of student learning outcomes before and after using teaching materials have increased quite significantly by 8.28. The average score of students before (pretest) using teaching materials learning experiences writing short stories based on experience 74.43 and the average value of post (testing) using teaching materials learning writing short stories based on experience 82.71.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of a review text assessment model with authentic assessment in 11th grade students of Senior high school 1 Dolok Batunanggar Simalungun Regency. The subjects of this study were 11th grade students of Senior high school Negeri 1 Dolok Batunanggar, Simalungun Regency, and product validator experts totaling 4 people who had criteria as Indonesian Language material experts and assessment experts, namely authentic assessment. The results of this study indicate that the effectiveness of the authentic text assessment instrument review text obtained an average of 80.97%. The lowest student score is 70 and the highest is 98. This shows that student learning outcomes are better when compared to without the teacher using an authentic text review assessment tool. Based on the average value of students' posttest data it can be concluded that the ability of students has increased significantly high and reached KKM (72) as expected. It was concluded that the authentic assessment text review instrument developed was effectively used in learning.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) Analyze the level of effectiveness of Macromedia Flash-assisted interactive learning media in story text learning that will be developed at SD60606 Public Elementary School Medan Perjuangan. (2) Analyzing how the level of interactive learning media assisted by Macromedia Flash on story text learning will be developed in SD60606 Public Elementary School Medan Perjuangan. This study uses the Borg & Gall development research. Based on the analysis of Macromedia Flash assisted learning media products from the experts, it was declared very effective and feasible to use with criteria of the validity of the material experts 85.42%, the design expert 91.00%, and the linguist 85.00%. Based on the completeness data of student learning outcomes before using interactive learning media assisted by Macromedia Flash obtained an average value of 62 while using a large scale completeness reached an average of 90 with a gain score of 0.74 into the high category. And the student questionnaire responses to the effectiveness of Macromedia Flash-assisted interactive learning media reached 90% of 30 students. Based on this data Macromedia Flash-assisted interactive learning media are said to be effectively used in learning with the assumption that students' understanding of story text is higher when using Macromedia Flash-assisted interactive learning media.

Abstract

The development of connectionism represents a paradigm shift in science. Connectionism has its root in cognitive and computational neuroscience. Likening the brain to a computer, connectionism tries to describe human mental abilities in terms of artificial neural networks. A neural network consists of a large number of nodes and units which are joined together to form an interconnection network. Within these interconnections, knowledge is distributed. Therefore learning is a processing by-product. This article is about the concept of connectionism, what it accounts for and what it doesn't take into account.  Finally, different approaches to connectionism are discussed.
