Abstract

This research is motivated by the limited studies on the transdisciplinary approach in teaching Wahdatul Ulum at UIN Sumatera Utara Medan, even though it has a significant impact on UIN Sumatera Utara as a state Islamic university (PTKIN) with strategic potential to implement this approach. However, limitations are still found in its implementation. This study aims to examine the practice of implementing the transdisciplinary approach in teaching the Wahdatul Ulum course, especially in the Islamic religious education (PAI) study program at UIN North Sumatra. This study used a phenomenological qualitative design to understand students' experiences regarding the implementation of a transdisciplinary approach in the Wahdatul Ulum course at UIN North Sumatra. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and documentation. Analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions within the framework of phenomenological analysis. Data validity was strengthened through source triangulation and member checking. All procedures adhered to research ethics, including participation consent and identity confidentiality. The findings imply that lecturers need to enhance their role as facilitators capable of managing cross-disciplinary learning and providing examples of real knowledge integration. At the PAI study program curriculum level, it is necessary to strengthen designs based on learning outcomes that support scientific synthesis, including the provision of modules and collaborative learning scheme.

Abstract

Contemporary Islamic Studies faces a methodhological crisis rooted in the epistemological dichotomy between the religious sciences and the general sciences. This crisis has resulted in a troubled relationship, hindering the relevance of Islamic scholarship in responding to contemporary challenges. This article aims to explore methodological renewal through pluridisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approaches as a coherent epistemological solution. This study employs a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach. The analysis focuses on the key works of M. Amin Abdullah, Mulyadhi Kartanegara, Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Ziauddin Sardar, Ian G. Barbour, Jasser Auda, and Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir. The findings indicate that effective renewal is not merely an addition of disciplines but a complete, four-layered epistemological reconstruction. First, the adoption of the "Three Keys" (Semipermeable, Intersubjective Testability, Creative Imagination) as a philosophical prerequisite for dialogue. Second, a structural paradigm shift from the hierarchical "Tree of Knowledge" model to the interconnective "Spider-Web of Knowledge". Third, a methodological evolution in fiqh through the Maqashid al-Syari’ah paradigm, shifting from "protection" (hifz) to "development" (tanmiyah). Fourth, methodological innovation in tafsir through contextual-progressive approaches such as semantics and qira’ah mubadalah. This renewal offers a vital integrative-interconnective framework for the relevance of Islamic Higher Education Institutions (IHEI) in the contemporary era.

Abstract

The industrial era brought profound transformations in the social, economic, and educational order, while presenting serious challenges to the formation of character and morals. The dominance of the logic of efficiency, instantaneousness, and individualism has the potential to erode the foundations of moral values that are transcendent and require a long-term internalization process. This research aims to analyze the impact of changes in industrial civilization on the construction of moral values, identify the basic principles of Islamic education in character formation, and explore its role as a mechanism of social transformation in the midst of secular paradigm hegemony. Using the library research method, this study analyzes primary sources of classical Islam—such as the thought of Ibn Miskawaih and al-Ghazali—as well as secondary sources in the form of scientific journals and contemporary studies. The findings show that Islamic education offers a holistic framework that places morality as the main axis of tarbiyah, not just a curricular complement. Principles such as tazkiyat al-nafs, uswah hasanah, and the integration of knowledge-charity-morals remain relevant when reinterpreted contextually in the digital ecosystem. More than that, Islamic education has the potential to be a balancing force that reconstructs the relationship between technology, ethics, and social responsibility, thus ensuring that the progress of civilization remains on the side of a whole humanity

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing religious values through the semi-pesantren madrasah culture at MA Al Islamiyah as a response to the phenomenon of moral decadence among the younger generation in the era of globalization and digitalization. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with primary data sources in the form of the head of the madrasah, Islamic Education teachers, and students, as well as secondary data in the form of program documents and madrasah rules and regulations. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing with triangulation validity testing of sources and methods. The results show that the semi-pesantren madrasah culture at MA Al Islamiyah is implemented through structured religious programs such as congregational prayers, tahfidz, muhadharah, and the BENYAMIN S (Clean, Comfortable, Beautiful, and Polite) program, which is oriented towards the formation of social ethics. The internalization process takes place through habituation, teacher role modeling, and persuasive guidance so that religious values are not only understood cognitively but also internalized and practiced in daily life. The impact is seen in increased religious discipline, respect for teachers, and students' social responsibility. This study confirms that the semi-pesantren madrasah culture functions as an effective hidden curriculum in building religious character and akhlakul karimah (good character) and serves as a preventive strategy against moral crises in the digital age.

Abstract

This study examines the views of judges at the Religious Court of Medan regarding the concept of shared parenting after divorce. The issue arises because a sole custody pattern often leads one parent to evade responsibility, thereby disadvantaging the child. The objective of this research is to determine whether shared parenting can serve as a more appropriate alternative in ensuring the best interests of the child. The study employs a normative–empirical method with approaches drawn from sociology of law, legal psychology, and legal studies. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with judges of the Religious Court of Medan, while secondary data were derived from statutory regulations, the Compilation of Islamic Law, court decisions, and relevant legal literature. Data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that judges generally consider shared parenting to be consistent with the principles of justice and the best interests of the child, as it allows the involvement of both parents. However, its implementation remains limited due to the absence of explicit normative regulation, resulting in reliance on judicial discretion or the agreement of the parties. In conclusion, shared parenting has gained substantive acceptance among judges and holds potential for further development within Islamic family law in Indonesia, supported by regulatory frameworks or technical guidelines.
