Abstract

During the reign of the fifth ruler of Banten, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa, the Sultanate of Banten reached its era of glory. One of the factors that supported Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa's achievements was his economic trade policy. His policies were considered to be in conflict with his hatred towards one of the European nations, the Dutch. Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa disliked the Dutch for destroying Banten's political system and trying to monopolize trade. Based on the Dutch attitude towards Banten, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa should have been more cautious towards foreigners. At the beginning of his reign, he reopened the free trade system and allowed foreigners to settle in Banten. The purpose of this study is to analyze the economic policy of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa and its impact on the improvement of the trade economy in the Sultanate of Banten. This research is a literature study that uses literature as a source. This research is also classified as a type of descriptive research using the historical method. The references used in this research are sourced from various literatures, such as books, articles, and final assignments. The result of the analysis of this research is that the economic policy implemented by Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa was carried out by putting aside his worries about Europeans. The policy was implemented by reopening the free trade system, allowing the Chinese to settle in Banten, and building Chinatown. Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa's policy was able to increase revenue for the Sultanate of Banten. In addition, this policy made Banten's harbor more crowded by traders with more and more partners

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries that has many diverse traditions and cultures. The Baritan tradition or sea alms is one of the traditions carried out by the Javanese community. As a form of culture, of course the Baritan tradition has a meaning in it. Meaning contains a message or mandate, main thought or idea, information, intention, or concept. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to know and understand what is contained in the Baritan tradition in Asemdoyong Village, Pemalang. The research method used in this research is qualitative, and the research approach used is using a folklore approach. The folklore method is used with the working steps of data collection, classification and analysis. The process of collecting data on the baritan tradition is carried out through direct observation or observation and not. journal articles and documents, and strengthened through interviews with sources or informants. The results of this study indicate that the Baritan tradition originated from the residents of Pemalang who were attacked by an outbreak of disease and believed to be a punishment for not giving honor to the ruler of the north coast. Baritan tradition also has values in it, namely religious value as gratitude to God, social value in the form of mutual cooperation, economic value in the form of economic improvement, and education in the form of knowledge in preserving culture. It is hoped that this research can help in maintaining Indonesia's cultural identity and local wisdom, as well as increasing public awareness about the importance of preserving and protecting culture as part of the national heritage.

Abstract

This research is based on the local wisdom of almsgiving to the earth which is always carried out by the people of Dusun Nyurungan, Menduran Village, Grobogan Regency every year. The aim of this research is to find out what almsgiving is and how it is implemented in society. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of interviews with community leaders, documentation and literature study. The results of the research show that in this earth alms tradition the buffalo is used as a medium. This animal is later slaughtered in one of the residents' houses and then the meat is distributed to the village community. Earth almsgiving is also carried out as a form of gratitude to Allah SWT for all his abundance. Apart from that, earth almsgiving itself has the values of mutual cooperation, faith, kinship, justice, friendship and the value of prayer.  Obstacles in implementation can occur due to internal and external factors. This shows that giving earth alms has been a tradition in Dusun Nyurungan since time immemorial and will not be replaced as time goes by.

Abstract

This research examines the role of ulama in education in three salafiyah Islamic boarding schools in Madura: Al-Is'af, Assadad, and Al-Usymuni. The main objective of this research is to analyze the works of ulama that are still used as the main literature in these pesantrens and to investigate how salafiyah pesantrens maintain the quality of traditional religious education while adopting the modern classical education system. The methodology used includes exploration to identify and inventory the works of scholars, as well as content analysis to reveal important information such as author, field of study, and book title. The study found that although salafiyah pesantren have incorporated non-yellow literature into their curriculum, they still maintain a focus on deep religious understanding (tafaqquh fiddin) through the teaching of classical books. The works of ulama are still the main reference in pesantren education, proving the important role of ulama in maintaining the Islamic scientific tradition in Indonesia.

Abstract

In many myths and legends, Nyai Roro Kidul is believed to be a semi-divine being or a beautiful princess with mystical qualities. Known as the Queen of the Southern Sea (Indian Ocean), she embodies a unique fusion of local spiritual beliefs, Hindu-Buddhist influences, and, later, Islamic cultural integration. Her narrative not only reflects the Javanese people’s interaction with nature and the supernatural world but also encapsulates deeper meanings related to power, gender, and the relationship between humans and the divine. Those who seek wealth often glorify Nyai Roro Kidul, even if it means promising the souls of family members as an offering. The story of Nyai Roro Kidul, believed by many traditional Javanese, remains controversial today. Some believe in her and even claim to have encountered her, while many others consider it just folklore. In reality, belief in Nyai Roro Kidul is not confined to indigenous communities but also extends to modern intellectuals, especially Javanese mystics. Fisher and Rinehart discuss important aspects of cultural diversity leading to syncretism in detail, such as the reliance on oral traditions among the people. Likewise, the mythology of Nyai Roro Kidul has been passed down orally through various stories, making her narrative widespread and a common feature of the belief systems among communities along Java’s southern coast as part of a "living religion" from the perspective of indigenous sacred ways.

Abstract

The Aksara Incung is an old Kerinci script that is threatened with extinction because it is no longer known by the Kerinci community. The Kerinci script is a cultural heritage of Kerinci and a source of pride for the Kerinci community. However, with the emergence of Islamic civilization and the Dutch colonial period, many Kerinci people began to be introduced to new cultures, resulting in fewer and fewer people studying, teaching and implementing the existence of the incung script in everyday life. The objectives of the study were (1) to explain the development of the Kerinci Incung script batik motif, (2) to express ideas derived from the Kerinci Incung script in the creation of craft works of art in the form of stamped batik motifs and (3) to understand and explore the meaning contained in the Kerinci Incung script as a cultural product of the community in the past. The research method used a qualitative approach. with observation, documentation and interviews with batik craftsmen and activists. Data collection was carried out using the purposive sampling method and the research location was Kerinci Regency and Sungai Penuh City. The method of creating Incung script motifs includes three stages, namely the exploration stage, the design/motif making process stage and the realization process. The Incung script revitalization strategy in the community is one way to reintroduce and preserve the Incung script. through painting media starting from motifs on Kerinci batik, motifs on musical instruments, establishing an Incung script school, bringing up Incung on every place name, street name, office name in the Kerinci area, and teaching school children by bringing up additional subjects. So that all of this can facilitate the effort to introduce the Incung script to the community.
