Abstract

Indonesia's multicultural society consists of various religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, requiring economic ethics that can harmoniously accommodate diversity. Religious leaders have a strategic role in developing economic ethics based on moderate and inclusive religious moral and spiritual values. This study examines economic ethics from an interfaith perspective and the role of religious leaders in applying economic ethics to their congregations. The informants for this study were ten religious leaders from Islam, Catholicism, Protestantism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach. The results of this study indicate that economic ethics from an interfaith perspective are conveyed through teaching, guidance, and example. Religious leaders play a role in instilling the principles of honesty, justice, responsibility, and solidarity in the economic activities of the community. In addition, religious leaders also play a role in facilitating interfaith dialogue to strengthen tolerance and economic cooperation across communities. This approach not only maintains social harmony but also encourages fair and sustainable economic empowerment, where religious leaders can become effective agents of social change in building economic ethics that support harmony and mutual prosperity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of disaster mitigation strategies implemented by Mitra Bentala in Maja Village, South Lampung Regency, and to examine the social transformation that occurred in the community following the intervention. The strategies included disaster education, evacuation simulations, the formation of Disaster Resilient Villages (Destana), the construction of evacuation routes, and environmental empowerment programs such as waste banks and seed nurseries. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted inductively using Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of social practice, incorporating the concepts of habitus, capital, and field. The findings indicate that the strategies fostered the emergence of a new habitus within the community a collective disposition toward risk awareness and preparedness. The interaction between the community's habitus, various forms of capital (social, symbolic, economic), and the village as a field of practice produced a social transformation reflected in increased disaster readiness, collective awareness, and strengthened community structures. These results demonstrate that community-based mitigation strategies can effectively generate adaptive and sustainable social change within disaster-prone rural contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the practice of multiculturalism in the Three-Level Competition (LT 3) of the Sidoarjo Scout Movement, focusing on cross-cultural interactions, the role of mentors, and participant dynamics. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis involving 13 participants, including scouts, mentors, and organizers. Mentors and organizers played a pivotal role in instilling multicultural values, such as accommodating prayer times and promoting respectful communication. Additionally, cultural integration through traditional dances and games enriched participants' understanding of Indonesia's diversity. The study highlights the potential of scouting activities as a platform for multicultural education, offering practical recommendations for fostering inclusive youth development.

Abstract

The wrist-pulling tradition is a social exchange practice based on a reciprocal system. The research aims to analyze the mechanisms of social exchange in the wrist-pulling tradition in Punggulan village using George C. Homans' theoretical framework. This research uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic method conducted in Punggulan Village, Air Joman District, Asahan Regency, for two months. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with 6 informants (Mrs. Pawit, Sari Rahayu, Mrs. Ayat, and 3 other residents) selected through purposive sampling, as well as documentation. The analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model integrated with seven propositions from Homans' theory. The results of this study indicate that the traditional practice of "narik wirit" is triggered by economic factors and social norms. This tradition also provides financial benefits, social support, and a mechanism for reproducing solidarity through "rewang" (mutual aid). Nevertheless, there is social pressure to reciprocate invitations when pulling rank, even though the economy is struggling. Economically, the benefits felt by the community when pulling wirit are greater than the costs incurred. Additionally, the community also views pulling the wirit as a symbol of social solidarity among residents. Then, intergenerational value differences were found, where the older generation viewed tradition as an obligation of solidarity, while the younger generation saw it as a social debt. The tradition of "narik wirit" demonstrates a balance between economic rationality and social solidarity, with value adaptations aligned with modernization.

Nevertheless, several challenges were identified during the implementation, including variations in children’s developmental stages, inconsistencies between parenting at home and at school, as well as the influence of the child’s social environment.
