Abstract

Abstract: This study examines the development of Hadith studies in Indonesia during the period 2014–2024 by analyzing doctoral dissertations from three prominent institutions: UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, UIN Sumatera Utara, and UIN Alauddin Makassar. Historically, these universities have been among the earliest providers of doctoral programs in Islamic studies and have played a significant role in shaping the production of Islamic knowledge in Indonesia. The research aims to map the typologies of Hadith studies, the issues addressed, and the methodologies employed. Data were collected through higher education repositories, from which relevant dissertations were identified, cataloged, and analyzed. The findings reveal that, within the studied period, there were 78 dissertations covering diverse topics. The typology shows that 37 dissertations (47.43%) focused on character-based studies, followed by 23 (29.48%) thematic Hadith studies, 10 (12.82%) studies on ‘Ulūm al-Hadīth, and 8 (10.26%) studies on the application of Hadith in everyday life. This distribution reflects the methodological development within the field, although the discourse remains dominated by intellectual-historical approaches and thematic Hadith studies. Keywords: Islamic knowledge, hadith studies, dissertations, State Islamic Universities

Abstract

This study examines the reorientation of waqf utilization from a traditional social charity approach toward strategic investment from maqâsid al-shari'ah perspective. The transformation of contemporary waqf reflects a shift from charity-oriented practices to an investment-driven model. This research employs a qualitative field method, with data collected through interviews and participatory observation. Data analysis is conducted using As-Syatibi's maqâsid al-shari'ah framework. The findings reveal that the five pillars of maqâsid al-shari'ah provide an effective framework for assessing the productivity and socio-economic impact of waqf utilization. The maqâsid-based approach enables the integration of Islamic spiritual values with community economic empowerment. This study concludes that incorporating maqasid principles into waqf management can optimize the potential of national waqf assets as a driver of sustainable economic development. Therefore, the development of productive waqf models oriented toward strategic investment while maintaining Sharia values is strongly recommended. Keywords: Islamic economics, maqâsid al-shari'ah, productive waqf, strategic investment, sustainable development

Abstract

Abstract: This study examines the relationship between self-esteem, gratitude, and the subjective well-being of students at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK), State Islamic University of North Sumatra. Employing a quantitative research design, the study utilizes both simple and multiple correlation analyses. The results indicate a significant correlation between self-esteem and subjective well-being (r = 0.878), as well as between gratitude and subjective well-being (r = 0.899), demonstrating strong associations in both cases. Furthermore, the multiple correlation analysis yields a combined correlation coefficient (R) of 0.911, suggesting that self-esteem and gratitude jointly account for 91.1% of the variance in students' subjective well-being. These findings indicate that both factors contribute substantially to enhancing students' overall psychological well-being. Consequently, programs designed to foster self-esteem and gratitude may have a positive impact on students' mental health and emotional resilience. Keywords: Gratitude, self-esteem, subjective well being

Abstract

The phenomenon of sound horeg, characterized by the use of high-powered sound systems in public entertainment, has become widespread in Indonesia, particularly in East Java. While it is often perceived as a form of cultural expression and community entertainment, it also raises social concerns due to noise disturbances. This study examines sound horeg from social and cultural perspectives using the framework of Religious Moderation. Employing a library research method, this study analyzes academic literature, news reports, and relevant documents. The findings indicate that Religious Moderation offers a balanced analytical framework; the principle of justice requires equal treatment of all forms of public entertainment; and the principle of balance is essential to harmonize cultural values, economic interests, environmental sustainability, public health, and religious considerations. Properly managed, sound horeg has the potential to strengthen social cohesion and preserve local wisdom without falling into extremes. Keywords: Sound horeg, religious moderation, society, culture

Abstract

This study examines the discursive contestation surrounding the hadith al-Ḥamw al-Mawt (The in-law is Death) within Indonesian digital Islam. Drawing on Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis approach and Campbell's theory of Digital Religion, the study analyzes the Instagram-based da‘wah content produced by the account @ismaelkholilie as a site where religious meaning and authority are actively constructed and contested. It argues that the hadith is recontextualized from a classical moral injunction into a digital narrative addressing infidelity, family ethics, and mahram boundaries in contemporary Muslim households. The findings demonstrate that social media functions not merely as a medium of religious dissemination but as a discursive arena in religious authority negotiated and reconfigured through digital credibility, algorithmic visibility, and audience interactivity. By situating Indonesia as a critical site of digital religious practice, this article contributes to broader debates on religious authority and meaning-making in Digital Islam. Keywords: Digital hadith, infidelity, al-Ḥamw al-Mawt, religious authority, digital religion

Abstract

This qualitative case study explores Bintang Lhee, a traditional Acehnese astronomical method for determining the qibla direction through naked-eye observation of three aligned stars (Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka). The study highlights its technical characteristics and its cultural-religious significance as a form of local wisdom integrating astronomy, faith, and Acehnese identity. Despite its observational limitations, Bintang Lhee represents valuable indigenous knowledge. This study suggests that incorporating such traditional methods into contemporary scholarship can enrich interdisciplinary research in cultural astronomy and indigenous knowledge systems. Abstract

Corruption and socio-political conflict remain major challenges in many Muslim-majority societies. This study examines the relationship between corruption and conflict intensity through a cross-national empirical analysis of 20 Muslim-majority countries. Using data from the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) and the Global Peace Index (GPI), Pearson's correlation analysis identifies a strong negative association (r = −0.769), indicating that higher perceived corruption is closely linked to greater conflict intensity. The findings suggest that corruption undermines institutional legitimacy, weakens governance capacity, and intensifies structural vulnerabilities that fuel instability. Despite Islamic normative frameworks emphasizing justice and accountability, persistent corruption reflects a significant gap between ethical ideals and institutional practice across diverse contexts. This study conceptualizes corruption not merely as an administrative failure but as a central driver of conflict dynamics. Addressing the corruption-conflict nexus requires integrated strategies that combine institutional reform, strengthened governance accountability, and context-sensitive ethical approaches to enhance political stability in contemporary Muslim societies. Keywords: Corruption, Conflict, Muslim-Majority Societies, Governance, Political Stability

Abstract

This study examines how these creators actively negotiate religious identity within the algorithmic and performative structure of TikTok. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through documentation of video content, captions, user comments, and online news, then analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that identity negotiation occurs through the strategic blending of Islamic markers such as hijab styles, Qur'anic phrases, modest aesthetics with local Acehnese cultural cues and popular TikTok formats including lipsync, short skits, and reflective storytelling. These dynamics highlight that religious identity online is co-constructed between creators and viewers. The study calls for strengthening digital religious literacy and encourages further research on gendered ethics and visual politics in contemporary Islamic expression. Keywords: Acehnese Muslimah, Digital Communication, Hijab Representation, Religious Identity, TikTok Narratives

Abstract

This study examines the multicultural attitudes of university students in North Sumatra, Indonesia, and explores their implications for advancing multicultural education in higher education. Using a phenomenological case study approach, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with fifteen students representing diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. The findings indicate that students consistently demonstrated tolerance, empathy, and appreciation of cultural diversity, but also faced challenges in intercultural communication, particularly due to language differences. These results underscore the urgent need for universities to strengthen multicultural education by addressing linguistic diversity and implementing inclusive pedagogical practices. The novelty of this study lies in its contextual evidence from North Sumatra, which enriches the discourse on multicultural education that has often been dominated by theoretical discussions. Accordingly, this research provides both empirical and practical insights that can inform the development of more inclusive policies and practices in Indonesian higher education. Keywords: Multicultural attitudes, multicultural education, diversity, tolerance
