Abstract

Oral tradition is an important part of intangible cultural heritage that has educational and social functions within society. In the context of the Simalungun ethnic community, oral traditions such as Umpasa and social practices like Marhobas and Marharoan Bolon not only strengthen cultural identity but also transmit values of hard work and mutual assistance across generations. This research employs a qualitative approach using interviews, observation, and documentation techniques. The results indicate that oral traditions serve as an effective character education tool, despite facing challenges from modernization. Preservation efforts such as digitalization and education based on local wisdom are crucial for maintaining the existence of this culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential and utilizationof the historical site of the Mahligai Tomb in Barus as a learningresource in Social Sciences (IPS) learning. The Mahligai Tomb is one of the important sites in the history of the entry of Islam into the archipelago which has high educational value. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews with IPS teachers, traditional figures, local historians, students, and local residents. The results of the study indicate that the Mahligai Tomb site has historical, cultural, and religious values   that can enrich students’ understanding of Islamic history and local culture.In addition, its utilization In IPS learning has been proven to increase students’ interest in learning, strengthen cultural identity, and build awareness of preserving historical heritage. However, the utilization of this site still faces several challenges, such as the lack of integration in the curriculum and limited support for educational facilities. This study recommends the development of a more systematic and collaborative historical site-based learning strategy between schools, communities, and the government.

Abstract

This study explores the strategies and challenges in applying Islamic values to build the character of the young generation with noble character. Using the library research method, data was collected from various relevant academic literatures. The research findings show that the implementation of Islamic values can be done effectively through an integrated curriculum, daily activities, and the central role of teachers as behavioural models. The urgency of this implementation lies in its ability to strengthen students' moral and social foundations, which are much needed in the modern era. Nonetheless, there are some significant obstacles, including variations in students' backgrounds, limited time allocation in the curriculum, and the impact of the external environment. Synergy between educational institutions, parents and communities is needed to overcome these challenges and create a holistic educational environment.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the value of togetherness contained in cimpa in the work year activities of the Karo tribe. Data collection in this study used a qualitative method with an Ethnographic approach. Data collection techniques in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques in this study were data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. This study examines the value of togetherness contained in cimpa in the Kerja Tahun activities of the Karo tribe. The purpose of this study was to obtain information about how the Kerja Tahun tradition activities are in Karo Regency, Tiga Panah District, in Suka Village along with the values of togetherness contained in cimpa (a typical Karo tribe food). The results of this study indicate that Kerja Tahun is a traditional tradition celebrated by the Karo Community which is carried out in all areas in Karo Regency. The Kerja Tahun tradition teaches the values of togetherness contained in it. In each process of the Kerja Tahun tradition activity has its own meaning, the togetherness in question is that families who are outside the area will gather in one house to follow the Kerja Tahun tradition
