Abstract

PM 10 Pollutant is an air particulate that cannot be detected by a nose hair. It contains carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic chemical components. This study, therefore, aims to quantify the concentration of PM 10 and identify the risks of the non-carcinogenic type’s exposure to the public’s health in the commercial area of Pasar Jambi sub-district. Measurement of PM  concentration was performed on Sunday (weekend) and Monday (weekday) using high volume air sampler (HVAS). Furthermore, questionnaire and interviewing were implemented on 95 people amounting to 12% of the total population. The result shows that PM 10  concentrations were observed to have exceeded ambient air quality standards of 196.9 µg/m3 on weekend and 2.094 µg/m3 weekday. Further- more, the average concentration of Al and Mn in PM 10  were 1.69384 µg/m3 and 0.04191 µg/m3 respectively. Although the public health activity was already at the risk of PM10 non-carcinogenic exposure in the commercial district (i.e RQ 1), there has notbeen any environmental health risks for the non-carcinogenic metals (Al and Mn) to the society. Therefore, risk management is carried out to protect the population from PM risks. Risk management comprises calculating the safe concentration, duration, frequency, and time of exposure on these weekend and weekday

Abstract

The industrial wastewater load pollutant caused without treatment. This study uses a simple technology to reduce the levels of COD, BOD5, and Nitrite by using coffee husk to minimized waters pollution or environmental damage. Adsorbents are activated by HCl 0.1 N and carbonized with muffle furnance to enlarge the surface area of the sorbent and to absorb the contaminants in the effluent of tofu industry. Tofu wastes containing COD, BOD5 and Nitrite contacted with activated carbon with varying weight of 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 gr and different  stirring times 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 minutes and 125 rpm stirring speed with biosorbent size 80-100 mesh. The stirring time 10-30 minutes with the average concentration absorbed for BOD5 180 mg/l, COD 650 mg/l  and NO2- 20 mg/l and increasing the mass of biosorbent can increase the concentrasion of adsorption. The  efficiency absorption of wastewater absorbs more BOD5 than COD and Nitrite with BOD5 absorption efficiency is 85.38%. Adsorption of BOD5, COD and Nitrite follows Langmuir’s isotherm equation with R2 value is 0,8104 for BOD5, 0,7121 for COD and 0,7467 for nitrite

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study the recycling potency of food waste from restaurants in Padang City by  measuring the food waste generation and its composition. Sampling and analysis were carried out based on SNI 19-3964-1994. It was performed for eight consecutive days at fifteen different sampling locations which include restaurants, cafes, fast food, and food courts. The result of this research showed that the average generation unit of restaurant food waste in the city of Padang was 0.105 kg/cap/day in weight units or 0.955 liters/cap/day in unit volume. The total generation of restaurant food waste was 132 liters/day which consists of organic waste (food scraps, leaves, fruit skin, vegetables, eggshells, bones), plastic (plastic bottles, packaging, bags, straws, and spoons), paper  (tissue, packaging paper, paper containers, cartons), and others (styrofoam, broken glass, smoked cigarette remains, cans, glass bottles). Organic waste has the largest percentage by the composition of 70.69%, and that of plastic was at 11.35%. The study further showed that the recycling potency of restaurant food waste in Padang City was made up of 7.65% paper, 51.32% plastic, 59.86% glass, 100% nonferrous metal and 91.71% organic waste. Conclusively, recycling and composting method were recommended to process the restaurant food waste.

Abstract

Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) in the shopping center is planned to cater for its constantly changing concept. The centre was to initially provide electronic services, however, it is currently providing food and beverage services. The changes will affect the amount of wastewater and the characteristics produced. Wastewater discharge is calculated from 80% of the 83.73m  of clean water needed per day. The concentration of the wastewater characteristics obtained for parameters BOD, COD, TSS, oil and fat were 182.67 mg/l, 328.50 mg/l, 255.92 mg/l, 47.93 mg/l respectively. The selection of the processing alternatives is based on the descriptive method which uses a series of selected alternative unit screens, grease traps, equalization tanks, activated sludge, settling tanks and chlorination. The dimensions of the processing unit are calculated based on the selected alternatives. And the land requirements needed to build a WWTP at X Mall amounts to 80m2

Abstract

Organic waste can be treated through anaerobic digestion in a bioplant facility. Different management  attern of bioplant has different consequences to each criterion affecting the sustainability of the bioplant. The study aims to apply multicriteria analysis using Analytic Network Process (ANP) method to alternatives of the bioplant management available in Bandung City as a case study. Multicriteria developed in the study, namely Technical, Environment, Social, and Economic, have their respective subcriterions to be analyzed further through interview to related stakeholders. The result revealed that the following subcriterions had the highest driving power and dependency: construction and operational, pretreatment, and availability of infrastructure  (Technical criterion), amount of labor required, readiness of community for waste segregation (Social), and  investment and operational costs (Economic). All subcriterions in criterion of Environment were deemed not so important. The best alternative choosen was a bioplant with waste segregation by generator at source and supported with waste bank
