Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was initiated by the ineffectiveness and inefficiency of the media used by the teacher in Atomic Theory class. As a result, proper media such as flash media-based snakes and ladders game is urgently needed. Thus, this study aimed at developing a practical, valid, effective, and applicable flash media -based snakes and ladders game on Atomic Theory for grade X students of SMA Negeri 2 Pontianak. A 3D (Define, Design, and Develop) development model suggested by Thiagarajan was carried out in this study. The data collection technique used were indirect communication, and measurement. While the instruments used were pre-test and post test questions, and the test sheets of learning outcomes. The study revealed that flash media-based snakes and ladders game was considered valid (3,52) and attracted positive response from both students and teachers with the practicality score of 85,78 % and 75 %. This media has fulfilled the effectiveness aspect, as well, as there were significant difference of before and after the media used (<0,05). Based on the results of data analysis, flash media-based snakes and ladders game is applicable to be used as the teaching materials in learning process.Keywords: flash media-based game, atomic theory, snakes and ladders

Abstract

Students’ understanding towards learning materials is generally influenced by the learning sources used. Lack of analytical skills and reasoning of the material taught especially stoichiometric material leads to a lack of interest in students' learning, students do not have a handbook but while learning takes place students use an inadequate number of textbooks in addition to covering only one or two representations. This study aimed to develop a learning module of multiple representation-based Stoichimetry concept. This study was a R &D method which adopting development of Brog & Gall. Sampling used purposive sampling. Subject in this research were students of class X IPA 2 as many as 9 students at initial field trials and 30 students of X IPA 1 at main field trials. Data collecting technique used were questionnaire and test. The data was analyzed by using Likert scale. The study revealed that the material validity by the material expert was 91,5%, and the validity by the media expert was 92,5%. The responses from the questionnaire on the practicality of the module were 88,17% and 86,89%. The effectiveness of the module could be seen from the students’ learning mastery value by 80,4%. In conclusion, the module that has been developed is considered feasible, practical, and effective to be used for both teachers and students in teaching learning process.Keywords: Stoichimetry Concept, Learning Module, Multiple Representation, Research and Development

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aimed to describe the students’ psychomotor skills in Biochemistry Lab of Lipid Determination of Saponification Number in even semester in Academic Year 2014/2014. Using descriptive method, this study employed the entire students who took Biochemistry Lab course. The instruments used were observation and psychomotor-based interview. The study revealed that the students’ average score of each psychomotor aspect was 85.2%, the practical tool usage aspect was 83.93%, the practical tools stringing aspect was 92.56%, the experimental treatment observation aspect was 86.36%, and the phasic experimental performance aspect was 86.36%. As a result, it can be concluded that that the students of Chemistry Education have excellent psychomotor skills with the overall average score of psychomotor aspect of 86.27%.Keywords: descriptive, psychomotor skills, Biochemistry experimental

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe low students’ learning outcomes and the failure in achieving the maximum mastery standard in Buffer Solutions material are caused by the students’ inability in understanding the questions. Students tend to merely pay attention on the Buffer Solutions material when the learning process takes place. However, they face confusion when they have to answer the questions of the task and the test. This study aimed at discovering the difficulties and the factors related to the students’ difficulties on Buffer Solutions material at XI IPA 1 class of MAN 2 Pontianak. Using case study descriptive method and qualitative approach, this study employed 29 students as the samples. The data collection technique used were indirect communication (questionnaires), direct communication (interview), and documentation techniques. While the data collection tools used were achievement test, questionnaires and interview. The data analysis results indicated that 68.3% students had difficulties on pH and pOH Buffer Solutions. On the other hand, the internal factorsthat affected the student learning difficulties were motivation aspect, that is, the students 'attention to the Buffer Solutions (54.31%), and talent aspect that influenced the student’s learning difficulties, that is, the students’ ability in recognizing numbers and figures respectively (48,6%) and talent aspect that influenced the student’s learning difficulties in Buffer Solutions materials (47%). In addition, the external factor that affected the student learning difficulties were family as the place to study (56%), and school as the facilitator (56,56%). Thereby, students are expected to further enhance the knowledge on the Buffer Solutions and have a discussion with both teachers and peers to cope with their learning difficulties.Keywords: Analysis, Students’ Learning Difficulties, Buffer Solutions

Abstract

ABSTRACTOne of the ways to increase the students activities and achievement in learning is to apply student’s oriented learning design. Therefore, this research used cooperative learning type TAI as well as evaluated its influence towards the student’s activities and achievement in learning. This research used Nonequivalent Control group design. The data was collected by using purposive sampling where XI MIPA 1 took as an experimental class and XI MIPA 3 as a controlling class. The data collected trough the use of measurement and observation techniques and the tools to collected the data was the essay and observation sheets. Based on analysis of the data which used non parametric U- Mann Whitney test showed that there was the difference on students activities and achievement in learning. The used of TAI in learning was affective to increased students activities which was 27,34% considered as moderate and the students achievement was 30,78% which was considered as high.Keywords: learning activities, learning achievement, and TAI learning model

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research had the purpose to find out the difference between the students’ learning outcomes which were taught by using NHT type of Cooperative Learning Method Assisted Video as Media and Lectures Method Assisted Video as Media as well as to find out how large the effect of NHT type of Cooperative Learning Method Assisted Video as Media in XI IPA class of SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Ambawang. This research was Quasi Experimental Research Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sampling technique was saturated sample based on the students’ daily tests scores. The techniques of data collection used measurement, indirect observation and direct communication techniques. The data analysis result showed that the mean score of experimental class (72.50) was higher compared to the mean score of control class which was 60.50. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test resultsshowed that one class did not distribute normally so that it was done the statistical analysis using U-mannwhitneytest which obtained 0.028. This result was smaller than α(0.05) which meant that there was difference between experimental and control class. The calculation of effect size showed the value of 0.54 in moderate category and referred to the table Z which obtained 20.54% value. It showed that NHT type of Cooperative Learning Method Assisted Video as Media gave effect on students’ learning outcomes.Keywords : Learning Outcomes, The Reaction Rate, Numbered Heads Together (NHT)

Abstract

ABSTRACTPremna Serratifolia Linn is believed to reduce cholesterol and as an alternative herbal medicine solution among the cost of medicine and the side effects caused by synthetic drugs. This study was conducted in several phases by using Premna Serratifolia Linn which was drained, mashed, and macerated using ethanol, choloform, and n-heksane. Extract obtained from evaporation, then whighed, and stored in a desiccators. Anti-cholesterol activity was tested test by using in vitro : began with determination of the maximum wavelength of the cholesterol standard solution with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and continued by manufacturing the standard curve with the cholesterol concentration of 0.5; 0.75; 1; 1.25; and 1.5 mL and 1000 ppm cholesterol solution. Furthermore, maximum absorbance wavelength was measured in order to obtain the maximum wavelength of the cholesterol. The study reveled that the solvent extraction of ethanol produced the largest  rendement. The extract Premna Serratifolia Linn is functioned as an anti-cholesterol. In addition,  the absorbed reduction of 100 ppm cholesterol standard solution found in the addition of 0.5 mL choloform extract.Keywords: Anti-cholesterol, Premna Serratifolia Linn, In Vitro

Abstract

The background of this research was the lack of student’s learning to the eleventh grade student’s of IPA 2 of SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak in chemistry especially molecule form material based on theory hybridization. Therefore, it was needed the method of learning to increase the student’s comprehension about appropriate concept with characteristic both of the subject and student. The aim of this research was to know the differences of student’s learning result between student’s which was taught by using TTW learning method in assist of question card media with the student’s which was taught by using lecture method in molecule form material based on theory hybridization. The kind of this research wascontrol grouppretest-posttest design. The technique and the instrument to collect the data were using student’s learning test, observation, and interview. The result of data analysis showed the mean score of control class pretest was 36,91 and the mean score of posttest was 41,15 while the mean score of experiment class pretest was 31,46 and the mean score of posttest was 66,58. The statistic result of U Mann- Whitneyshowed that the score was 0,00 less than α (0,00<0,05) which meanth the differences of student’s learning result which was taught by using TTW learning method in assist of question card media with the student’s which taught by using lecture method. The increasement of student’s learning result was known by counting the effect sizescore 1,06 in high score categorize. In this case, the learning method TTW with question card can be used in molecule form material based on theory hybridization to increase the student’s learning result.Keywords: Molecule From Based on Theory Hybridization, Question Card, Think Talk Write (TTW)

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research aimed to find out the difference between learning result of the students who were taught by learning cycle model 5 E and those who were taught by conventional learning model as well as to know the effect of learning cycle model 5 E towards learning result of the eleventh grade students in the Coloid experiment at SMA Negeri Pontianak. The sampling system was purposive sampling which XI MIA 3 was choosen as experimental class and XI MIA 2 was choosen as control class. The instruments used were the test of learning result and observation sheets to measure the learning result of the affective and students’ psychomotor. The result of this research showed that the students who were taught by learning cycle model 5 E had the mean score of cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning results were 86,84; 52,63 and 63,15 respectively. Meanwhile the students who were taught by conventional learning model had the mean score of cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning results were 78,94; 42,10 and 52,63 respectively. Hence, it could be concluded that learning cycle model 5E affected on the improvement of students’ learning result which was 28,52 %.Keywords : Learning result, Coloid experiment, learning cycle model 5 E

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the symbolic, the microscopic, and the macroscopic levels of multi representation skills on Reaction Rate class among Science students of the eleventh grade of SMA Muhammadiyah Ketapang. The subjects of this study were 30 eleventh grade Science students of SMA Muhammadiyah ketapang. The data collection techniques were interview and test. The study reveals a number of findings. First, the symbolic level of multi representation skills of the first question was 86,5% (excellent), the second question was 59,22% (average), and the third question was 66% ( good). In other words, the students’ skill on symbolic level of multi representation is considered good by 70,57%. Second, the students’ skill on macroscopic level of multi representation on question number four is considered excellent by 83,86%, question number five is considered average by 68,57%, and question number six is considered very good by 77,14%. Overall, the students’ skill on macroscopic level of multi representation is very good by 76,52%. Last, the students’ skill on microscopic level of multi representation on question number seven is considered average by 52,86%, question number eight is considered poor by 36,14%, and question number nine is considered poor by 34,71%. In conclusion, the students’ skill on microscopic level of multi representation is below average by 41,25%.Keywords: Description, Multi Representation Skills, Reaction Rate
