Abstract

ABSTRACTThe results and retention of student learning is still low in learning the concept of mole due to the difficulties of students to understand the concept and the lack of ability to resolve the matter of calculation. This study aimed to determine the differences in the results and retention of learning between the students who were taught with and without using mind-map media based on tier training method in the material of mole concept, knowing the great effectiveness of mind-map media based tier training method toward the results and retention of students in the material of mole concept at X grade students of SMAN 8 Pontianak. This research used Quasi Experimental Research with control group design. This research used purposive sampling with X MIA 4 as the experimental class and X MIA 3 as the control class. The techniques of collecting data used measurement techniques, observation and interviews, while the data collection tools used the test results and retention of learning, observation sheet and questionnaire. Mann-Whitney U test as the data analysis showed that there were some differences in learning while the t-test showed that there were differences in retention of learning. The results of the data showed that there were differences in learning outcomes and retention between the students who were taught with and without mindmap media based on tiered training method. Learning by using mind-map media gave effectiveness to the result of students learning outcomes which 24,86% categorized as medium category, the retention of student learning for 8 days was 28,52% categorized as medium category.Keywords: learning outcomes, tier training method, mind-map, retention

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe complex and abstract characteristics of Chemical materials requires students to have higher thinking skills to learn. Relationship of students' thinking skills and the ability to learn chemistry indicates the need of formal thinking skills in learning chemistry. This study aimed at describing the grade X students’ thinking skills and learning outcomes, and finding the correlation of grade X students’ learning outcomes and their formal thinking skills. The results of analysis revealed that as many as 7 students were able to correctly answer the burney test questions and achieved value range of 17-24. This value was included in the criteria of formal thinking. In addition, the preferred correct answers were the correlation a land combinatorial reasoning. A total of 10 students of grade XD, SMA Negeri 9 Pontianak obtained test results of chemistry achievement at ≥ 65, while 26 students scored completeness at ≤ 65. The data obtained showed the positive correlation between formal thinking skills and learning outcomes with correlation coefficient sof 0.514 or 51.4%. Hence, it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship of formal thinking skills and students’ learning outcomes in learning chemistry.Keywords : Students’ learning outcomes, The ability of Formal thinking, Learning Chemistry

Abstract

ABSTRACT Learning chemistry is a combination of theories with calculation that require good mathematical abillity in solving problems. This research was investigate and examined the student’s mathematic skill and correlation of the results class X MIPA SMA Negeri 4 Pontianak. This research was a correlation study. The selected samples consisted of 69 students in the class X MIPA 3 and MIPA 4 used Random Sampling technique. The data ware obtained using mathematical skill tests, documentation of the value of the results of class X student second semester of 2015/2016 and interview. This research was indicates that students with high math skills, students achievment chemical is no longer influenced by mathematical abilities. Data were analyzed with a nonparametric test (Spearman Rank test) showed there is no significant correlation between the skill of mathematics to chemistry student learning achievment at 0.236 and correlation coefficient of 0.145 including very low category. The skill of Mathematics class X SMAN 4 Pontianak totaling 69 students were good to excellent category the percentage of students 53.6%, 40.5% good category, the category was sufficient 4.5%, 1.4% less category.Keywords: Corellation, Mathmatics skill, Student’s learning achievement chemistry

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aimed at finding out not only the difference of students’ learning outcomes taught by using peer tutor remedial teaching method and lecturing remedial teaching method on Atomic Structure class at grade XI IPA SMA Negeri I Sanggau but also the influence of the peer tutor remedial teaching methodon Atomic Structure class. Using quasi experimental and Nonequivalent Control Group Designs, this study employed 2 classes as the samples; grade XI IPA 2 class as the experiment group and grade XI IPA I class as the control group. The data collection technique used were measurement, observation, interview, and documentation. While the instruments used were Atomic Structure essay test and remedial test. The results of U Mann Whitneydata analysis  obtained  level of 5%, and probability score of Pvalue (0,043) < (0,05), so that the Ho was rejected dan and the Ha was accepted. In other words, there were significant differences of experiment and control groups. It could be seen from the Effect Size (ES) count of 0,66which considered in average category and Z table which indicated the significant effect to the students’ learning achievement (24,54%) to learning outcomes.Keywords: Remedial Teaching, Peer Tutor Method and Learning Outcomes

Abstract

 The students’ average score on Chemistry subject has still low. This has caused not only by the level of the difficulty but also the low of the students’ self-efficacy and motivation.  This  study  aimed  at  finding  out  the  students’  self-efficacy, motivation,  and the  correlation  of  self-efficacy  and  achievement  motivation  among  the  ninth  grade Science  class  students  of  SMA  Negeri  3  Pontianak.  Using  descriptive  correlational design,  as  many  as  66  students  of  the  ninth  grade  Science  class  participated  in  this study. The self-efficacy measurement was conducted by using self-efficacy scale which was adopted from the Bandura scale  with a reliability coefficient of 0.86, whereas, the achievement  motivation  measurement  conducted  by  using  achievement  motivation scale  based  on  The  Mehrabian  Achieving  Tendency  from  Mehrabian  1993  with  a consistency  internal  reliability  of  0.92.  The  study  reveals  that  53,03%  of  students obtained    medium    self-efficacy,  and  60,61%  of  students  students  had  average achievement  motivation.  The  Pearson  Product  Moment  correlation  test  indicated  that there was a positive and significant correlation between self-efficacy and achievement motivation by 0,278 which was considered into low category with  sig value (2-tailed) of 0.024. Keywords: Chemistry, Correlation, Achievement Motivation, Self-efficacy

Abstract

Students’ difficulties in understanding the Extraction and Isolation of secondary metabolite compound of (Premna serratifolia Linn) are mainly caused by the improper learning media used by the teacher. By far, the media used in learning hasn’t met the students’ needs as it didn’t present the real process of Extraction and Isolation. This study aimed at developing a valid and a practical learning media. Using 3-D (Define, Design, Develop) model, this study employed questionnaire, interview, direct communication, and measurement as the data collection techniques. The data collection tools were interview guidance, observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet. The results of the validation from material, media, and language experts showed 93,9% valid. Whereas, the results of the practicality from individual try-out was 95,33%, and from small group try-out was 86,39%, and it’s regarded practical. In conclusion, the learning video of Extraction and Isolation of secondary metabolite compound of (Premna serratifolia Linn) is considered valid and practical. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the effect of booklet-based on PQ4R learning method. Using quasi experimental method, as well as nonequivalent control group design, this study employed students of grade X as the samples (Grade XA as the control group and grade XB as the experiment group). They were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The data collection tools used were essay and interview. While the data collection technique employed were measurement and direct communication. The study revealed that the average posttest score of the experiment group was 83,68, while the average posttest score of the experiment group was 83,68. Hence the experiment group was distributively considered normal. The homogeneity test indicated that both groups were homogenous (sig value 0,0522>0,05). However, the hypothetical test of t independent sample with α=0,05 discovered T account of 2,960>560. This value indicated that there was a significant difference of students’ learning achievement by using booklet based PQ4R method and lecturing method in chemical bonding class at grade X of SMA Negeri 1 Pengkadan. Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was initiated by the students’ low learning outcomes on Chemistry subject and the teachers’ preference in using lecture method in teaching learning process.This study aimed at 1) finding out the differences of students’ learning outcomes between the use of flash media-assisted practical method and lecture method on hydrocarbon class at grade XI MIA of SMA Muhammadiyah I Pontianak. Using quasi experimental design and Control Group Posttes Design, this study employed the students of grade XI MIA 2 as the samples of experiment group, andthe students of grade XI MIA 2 as the samples of control group. The data collection techniques used were measurement and observation. While the instruments employed were observation sheet and essay. TheU-Mann Whitneytest revealed that the post test score of 0,0140< 0,05 Ho was rejected, while the Ha one was accepted. It means that there was correlation of students’ learning outcomes between the experiment and the control groups. In addition, the effect size result was 1,086 > 0,8 and considered high which indicated the positive effect of flash media-assisted practical method in enhancing students’ learning achievement.Keywords: flash, learning outcomes, hydrocarbon, practical method

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aimed to describe the student misconceptions and find out the cause of misconceptions MIPA class X SMAN 1 Pontianak. The method used is descriptive qualitative approach. The technique of taking informants using purposive sampling techniques so that the informant obtained, namely class X MIPA 5 and 6. The data collection techniques such as measurement results of diagnostic tests and interviews. Data collection tools in the form of Multiple Choice Tests using Certainty Of Response Index (CRI), which consists of 10 items with five alternative answers and guidance interview. Based on the analysis of research data shows there are misconceptions students. The results showed the highest percentage of misconceptions in the amount of 63.93% on indicators to distinguish the concept of oxidation and reduction in terms of incorporation and release of oxygen and misconceptions lowest percentage that is equal to 4.92% on the indicator to distinguish the concept of oxidation and reduction in terms of release and acceptance of electrons. The cause of the misconceptions of students caused by the fault of students that includes associative thinking students, preconception or early concept is wrong, intuition is wrong, and the ability of students but it is also caused by the teaching methods are boring and less varied and selfconfidence of students is too great when filling criteria CRI.Keywords: student misconceptions, misconceptions cause, reaction oxidation reduction

Abstract

ABSTRACT Chemistry is characterized by abstract concepts and theories which is rather difficult and requires formal thinking skill. This research was aimed to describe student’s formal thinking skill, student’s learning achievement, and the correlation between of them. Students of XI IPA were used as population of this research, while 29 students from XI IPA 1 were chosen as samples. The sampling used purposive sampling technichuques. Student’s formal thinking skill data were collected using Test of Logical Thinking (Tobin and Capie, 1981). The results showed that 72,41% students were in formal thinking stage, while 24,14%, and 3,45% students were in transitional stage and concrete stage, respectively. Student’s learning achievement data were analyzed from student’s semester test and it was found that student average score was 70,86. Correlation between student’s formal thinking and student’s learning achievment was analyzed using pearson product moment. It was concluded that ‘formal thinking ability’ affected student achievement by 0,527 in coefficient correlation, and 0,2774 in coefficient determination.Keywords: learning results, formal thinking skill, chemistry learning, Test of Logical Thinking
