Abstract

This article aims to examine the role and purpose of the philosophy of education while identifying the unique dynamics of its association with educational practice and pedagogical science. Within the realm of education, philosophy of education and pedagogy explore distinct facets of the same subject matter. Rather than acting as competitors, these disciplines, with diverse research functions, possess the potential for mutual complementarity and reciprocal enhancement of their cognitive capacities. The outcomes reveal that as a branch of applied philosophy, philosophy of education does not serve as a direct tool for influencing educational practice. Instead, its primary purpose lies in facilitating comprehension and understanding of crucial issues in the theory and practice of education. In this relationship, pedagogy acts as a mediator, playing a crucial role. In conclusion, the most productive form of the relationship between the philosophy of education and pedagogical science is one of interaction. This interaction fosters mutual enrichment, strengthens their research capabilities, and allows for the fullest realization of their distinct functions. Pedagogy, in particular, has the flexibility to choose from philosophical and educational concepts to develop theories, which are validated through experimentation and directly applied in practice. Philosophy of education, meanwhile, realizes its theoretical functions across all stages of educational activity.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The syntactic complexities of English sentence structures induced the EFL students’ sentence-level accuracies senseless. The Sentence’s Boundary Errors were, therefore, the major essences of this study. This study aimed at diagnosing the 2nd-year PNP ED students’ SBEs as the writers of English Paragraph Writing at the Writing II course. Qualitatively, both observation and documentation were the instruments of collecting the data while the 1984 Miles & Huberman’s Model and the 1973 Corder’s Clinical Elicitation were employed to analyse the data as regards the SBEs produced by the students. The findings designated that the major sources of the students’ SBEs were the subordinating clauses (noun, adverb and relative clauses), that-clauses, participle phrases, infinitive phrases, lonely verb phrases, afterthought, appositive fragments, fused sentences and comma splices. As a result, the SBEs flopped to communicate complete thoughts because they were grammatically incorrect; lacked a subject, a verb; the independent clauses ran together without properly using punctuation marks, conjunctions or transitions; and two or more independent clauses were purely joined by commas but failed to consider using conjunctions. In conclusion, the success of the EFL students in constructing sentences rests upon the knowledge of complex syntactic structures through transformational grammar. Keywords: SBEs; diagnosing; EFL students; sentence-level inaccuracies

Abstract

This study explores the perceptions of students towards blended learning using YouTube as a teaching tool. Blended learning, which combines traditional face-to-face teaching with online methods, has emerged as a promising approach to address these challenges. Blended learning allows students to access course materials and engage in activities both in the classroom and through digital platforms like YouTube. This study, conducted at Ekasakti University with 54 students divided into three groups, employed questionnaires, interviews, and observations to gather comprehensive data. The findings indicate a generally positive perception among students towards the use of YouTube in blended learning. Students recognize the benefits of YouTube in enhancing language learning experiences, as evidenced by high mean scores for statements emphasizing its effectiveness. However, concerns were raised regarding certain aspects of using YouTube, reflected in consistently low mean scores for specific statements across all groups. Addressing these concerns is crucial for optimizing the effectiveness of blended learning with YouTube and ensuring its successful integration into educational practices. Overall, while students largely appreciate the benefits of blended learning with YouTube, addressing their concerns is essential to further enhance its effectiveness and promote student engagement and learning outcomes.
