Abstract

This research focuses on the main character, Violet, as well as the factors that influence her personality. To gain insight into Violet's soul as depicted in the novel All The Bright Places, this research aims to learn from Violet's failures in saving Finch, so that they do not happen again in the future.Researchers use observational methods in data collection based on Kothari. (2004). The data collection technique used for this research is reading and noting the instances of Violet's failures in saving Finch from suicide in the novel All The Bright Places and identifying Violet's personality traits found within the novel. The theoretical framework used in this research is Carl Jung's personality theory (2008), which specifically examines archetypes such as Anima, Animus, and Self. The researcher employs descriptive and qualitative methods in this study. According to research findings in the novel All The Bright Places, Violet's personality is greatly influenced by the Anima, Animus, and Self within her, which results in Violet's lack of sensitivity towards Finch, who desperately needs attention and support to avoid struggling with past trauma, as explained in the novel All The Bright Places.

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of language change in the communication patterns of Generation Z, a demographic cohort born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, known for their deep integration with digital technology and social media. The research investigates how linguistic shifts—such as the emergence of new slang, abbreviations, code-switching, and emotive expressions—reflect the values, identity, and communication preferences of this generation. Utilizing a qualitative-descriptive approach, the data was collected through observations of online conversations, social media interactions, and informal interviews with Gen Z participants. The findings reveal that language change among Gen Z is significantly influenced by digital platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and messaging apps, where brevity, creativity, and speed of communication are prioritized. Additionally, the blending of English with native languages, frequent use of memes, emojis, and internet-born expressions are indicative of their unique linguistic landscape. These changes not only reflect evolving communication norms but also challenge traditional views of grammar, vocabulary, and language usage. The study highlights the need for educators and linguists to acknowledge and adapt to these changes in order to remain relevant and effective in language teaching and sociolinguistic analysis.

Abstract

This This research compares the Goiso Oinan and Masi dialects, which are part of the Mentawai language in the Mentawai Islands. The research aims to analyze the linguistic similarities and differences, particularly in the aspects of phonology, morphology, and lexicon between these two dialects. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, with data collected through direct interviews with native speakers of both dialects in the Goiso Oinan area located in the Sipora Utara District and the Masi area in the Siberut Barat Daya District. The data were analyzed using systematic techniques of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that there are words with similar phonemic forms and meanings in both dialects. However, morphological changes also occur through the addition, deletion, and substitution of phonemes in various word positions. Furthermore, there are dialectal variations with different word forms but the same meanings, reflecting the complexity and dynamic evolution of dialects influenced by geographical, social, and economic factors. The research also found that the Goiso Oinan dialect is the dominant dialect, while the Masi dialect serves as a contributing dialect. Approximately 60 percent of the lexical items share the same forms and meanings, while 40 percent differ in form but retain the same meanings. This study makes a significant contribution to the documentation and preservation of local dialects as part of the cultural heritage of Mentawai, as well as to the development of dialectology and Austronesian linguistics.
