Abstract

With the application of supply chain strategy, retailers can make a wise decision to increase supply chain performance. This study is one of the novelties in supply chain management research because it aimed at empirically analyzing the influence of supply chain strategies as the determinants of retail supply chain performance. For the purpose of the study, data were collected with a structured questionnaire from 115 mangers of some selected retail chain stores in Bangladesh. Collected data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares method with smart PLS software version 2.0M3. The present study has shown some meaningful findings regarding the determinants of retail supply chain performance. Firstly, it is found in the study that agile supply chain strategy is the most pivotal factor influencing retail supply chain performance. The lean strategy was also found to be a contributor to the retail supply chain performance while hybrid strategy was found to exhort very weak influence in increasing the performance of retail supply chain. The findings of this study can benefit the supply chain managers involved in retailing. From this study retail managers can know which strategy they should adopt to bring forth substantial advantage for the companies by maintaining their supply chain in a better way.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the critical factors of Total Quality Management (TQM) as Supply Chain Management (SCM) practices in the healthcare sector and to measure the effect of those factors on business performance of hospitals in Turkey. Performance of the hospitals was measured using subjective measures based on the hospitals administrators’ perception of how their organization performed relative to the competition. The technique of Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis is employed to investigate the relationship between TQM practices and business performance. Analysis of the data from 50 hospitals revealed that TQM practices in the healthcare SCM influence financial performance indirectly by influencing non-financial performance. The results of the study provide strategic information about the importance of TQM factors such as supplier quality, service design, process management, employee relations, training, role of top management, and data and reporting for the successful healthcare SCM.

Abstract

Information sharing in supply chain management has been studied extensively during the past several years. Many scholars agree that shared information will lead to significant cost savings through inventory and batch size reductions, productivity gains, and other measurables. The purpose of this paper is to review the information sharing related studies in supply chain management research, identify core issues, and offer suggestions for future research. Fifty-five articles were collected from the premier refereed journals in the fields of Supply Chain Management and Operations Management. Classification of the articles based on four common information sharing themes is presented in the paper. A majority of the articles included in this review concentrate on an element of information sharing that leads to strategic changes at the manufacturers and suppliers. Potential future research ideas include additional empirical work and investigation into the leakage effect.

Abstract

Abstract: Purpose: This case study explores the bullwhip effect phenomenon and mitigation in supply chain process at Transborder Logistic Canada. Problem statement: Despite being one of the largest logistic chains of Canada, Transborder for two years was facing challenges and problem in shape of bullwhip effects. To add further to the firm's problem there is no owned-warehouse to manage its inventories. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical framework for present case study is based on the theory of Lee (1977) to overcome the problems in the supply chain process. Moreover, the steps of Hussain and Drake (2011) are considered to overcome the bullwhip effects, challenges of cost control, response time, risk management, and effective warehouse management. Methodology: "Realism" is the research philosophy undertaken to develop a cross-sectional research design to investigate the research problem at hand. Hypothetico-inductive-deductive model is used to explore research variables. Moreover, researcher used mixed method approach by circulating matrix based semi-structured survey questionnaire in different interlinked departments of Transborder Agency. The questionnaire is based on LIKERT Scale (1-to5) rating. In addition to that, open-ended interviews with the head and subordinates of various departments were commenced to explore qualitative aspects related to research problem. Findings and Implications: results revealed that logistic firm rely heavily on demand-forecasting information through customers. There was fluctuation in demand order along with order batching, demand forecast updating, rationing and shortage game, and price fluctuation. The Polar diamond approach is considered by Transborder to effectively and efficiently deal with problem at hand and challenges that are hindering the supply chain process. Moreover, VMI, EDI, and POS are tools and techniques used to resolve different types of challenges and find a long term proper rational solution to bullwhip effect (problem at hand). Moreover, findings revealed that However, there is still need for effective warehouse management which can be done through developing strategic alliance with various partners across the globe and undertaking the software inventory system to manage things in correct manner. Research Value: The present research contributes to dynamic field of supply chain through providing new insight dimension of bullwhip effect in logistic business and enhancing the body of knowledge. The results could facilitate logistic supply chain's parties to avoid similar type of problems so that competitiveness is enhanced. Moreover, it contributes towards empirical research as there is very limited work available on Canada's logistic industry. Conclusion: Logistic supply chain inefficiency is mainly caused by bullwhip effect. The rational adoption of model can assist supply chain managers to be proactive in approach. Moreover, the rational decision can help in identification of problem at early stage and help the firm to efficiently overcome the problem.

Abstract

This study proposes a supply chain model for the Excecutive Development Center of Universiti Utara Malaysia (EDC-UUM) to enhance the usability and the visibility of EDC-UUM, thus increasing the demand for EDC-UUM services and indirectly, the profit as well. Specifically, this study embarks on two objectives which are to determine the resources available and opportunities that can be grabbed to strengthen the functions and usability of EDC-UUM and to develop a supply chain model for EDC-UUM that will incorporate all the resources and opportunities so that the demand for and the utilization of the training/seminar rooms and hotel rooms increases. To achieve the first objective, a SWOT analysis was conducted by assessing the current practice and future plans of EDC-UUM. The second objective was achieved by studying the characteristic of a hotel supply chain, and then mapping the supply chain to suit the characteristics of EDC-UUM. In this report, the supply chain model focuses only on the first tier for EDC-UUM's product development that directly involves the use of local community members.
