Abstract

The high quality of a product is much demanded by consumers today. However, it is difficult to understand the perceptions of consumers towards product quality. Thus, this study intends to identify the relationships between brand and nine product quality dimensions as well as to compare the difference in quality perception between Malaysian and Non-Malaysian electrical appliances amongst Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia students. This is a quantitative study. Nine research hypotheses were examined while considering the nine dimensions of product quality (performance, features, conformance, durability, reliability, serviceability, aesthetics, perceived quality, and environmentally friendly) which were believed to affect the consumers' perceptions of product quality. In this study, the respondents were students from the Faculty of Technology Management and Business, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. The data were analysed by using SPSS software. The result reveals that only two quality dimensions, i.e. feature and serviceability were significantly correlated with the brand. Besides that, four quality dimensions, i.e. performance, features, aesthetics, and perceived quality had a significant difference in quality perceptions between Malaysian and Non-Malaysian electrical appliances. The result of this study will help to provide guidance and information for future research in the field of electronics.

Abstract

Owning a home at a bad location is detrimental to its market value. Besides, demographic forces have influenced the demand for housing over the past decades. This study identifies the type of location attributes and demographic characteristics influences on housing purchase decisions of home buyers in Iskandar Malaysia. This research intends to collect data through questionnaire. The respondents are the house owners of Taman Nusa Sentral. The data is then analysed with correlation to study the relationship between demographic and location variables. Most of the demographic characteristics, except Gender and Income, have significant influences on location facilities and services when it comes to house purchase decision. This study is able to overcome the problems of low house owning rate and oversupply and provides preferable location attributes to the housing developers.

Abstract

Total Quality Management (TQM) is an important management tool for continuous improvement in an organization for enhancing their performance. TQM tools are very essential in supporting TQM activities. However, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have inadequate resources and awareness of motivation for implementing TQM tools in their companies. Hence, the purpose of this study is to identify the extent level of TQM tools and to examine the relationship between TQM tools and organisational performance. Hypotheses have been developed by identifying twenty TQM tools which considered vital in TQM implementation. 400 questionnaires have been distributed through random sampling in final study. Finally, 80 questionnaires were received or 25.0% response rate for final study. The study result shows that the extent level in TQM tools is in high and moderate level. Furthermore, there is a significant relationship between TQM tools and organisational performance in SMEs. However, the relationships are in moderate and low level. The study is important for SMEs to gain insight on the effect of TQM practices towards TQM tools in organizational performance and identify the most important tools and techniques for their companies in future implementation

Abstract

With the current advances in network activities, there appears to be wide needs for Quality of Services (QoS) and fairness among flows. As such, the links are also forced as a result in order to effectively perform in congestion control and avoidance. For this reason, active queue management algorithms were proposed in order to handle QoS issues. This study will examine the unique the performance effeteness of three AQM algorithms namely REM, AQV, and CoDel due to the little evidence found in literature about their performance. The performance above mentioned algorithms will be evaluate via simulation tool (NS2) in terms of response time, throughput and packet loss in single link network . The throughput result showed that REM performed best, closely followed by CoDel and AVQ. REM has the faster response time, followed by CoDel , with AVQ performing worst overall by a significant margin. the packet loss showed AVQ, and CoDel algorithms to do equally, and seem REM performs very poorly. The performance result of REM, AVQ, and CoDel showed different performance results in which REM and CoDel mechanisms helped control the amount of bandwidth shared within a network.

Abstract

The implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to surge the performance has induced various organizations towards its adoption. Even though the government may perhaps strive for enhancements from ERP adoption, however, the organizations may experience adverse effects. The aim of this study is to investigate the challenges in implementing the ERP system on public sector organizations. This study was conducted using questionnaires survey with 52 local authorities in Malaysia which have implemented the system. It is found that that the main challenge to implement ERP in public sector organization is due to the complexity of existing working structure (i.e. protocols, bureaucracy, etc.) in meeting ERP requirements. It is followed by the difficulties in adapting to the change brought by this system where its change the way people work, and lack of experience and appropriate skills in implementing this complex system.

Abstract

Agile Kanban method recently is gaining increasing attention and popularity in software development organizations (SDOs). This method has numerous advantages that make it performs better than other Agile methods in terms of managing software projects. However, different studies revealed that this method has significant challenges that negatively impact the scheduling of the development process. Therefore, late delivery of software projects may occur, thus the rate of projects failures will be increased. In response, this paper aims to explicate the current challenges in progress monitoring task of Agile Kanban method. Accordingly, the results gave insights to bridge that gap by developing an improved software project monitoring task model of Agile Kanban method. To do so, we identified the components and criteria that affect software project monitoring task, and then an initial model has proposed. The initial model consists of three main components, which are (1) extending progress tracking, (2) generating optimum WIP limits, and (3) visualizing useful insights for workflow. Further research can be focused on developing and evaluating the proposed model through discussion with the knowledge and domain experts.

Abstract

A worldwide market inventory is one of the biggest and most significant resources of a manufacturing industry. ABC analysis is one of the techniques used comprehensively in manufacturing industries for inventory classification. The ABC inventory classification technique has an efficient control on a huge amount of inventory items. The ABC inventory classification approach categorizes inventory items as A, B and C classes according to their annual consumption value. To direct and control the inventory items more proficiently the inventory managers regularly classify and group all the inventory items. Thus, in this paper, we concentrate on inventory management in a healthcare product manufacturing company in Kedah, Malaysia. A case study approach is used to make a preliminary inventory assessment through ABC analysis in order to control the inventory items more efficiently.

Abstract

Product innovations success at research and development level, does not guarantee that it will lead to the success in commercialization stage. Despite the enormous research efforts, the commercialization rates of product innovation are still at an alarming level in many countries including Malaysia. While collaboration has been acknowledged as pertinent to the success of innovation product commercialization, the collaborative effort between innovation recipient firm and the innovators remains limited. Besides, one of the central questions is how and under what condition the two parties are more likely to engage in a resilient collaborative effort, from the perspective of innovation recipient firms remain unclear. This new perspective requires an understanding of the relationship between collaboration and commercialization performance and the moderating effect of TC from firms perspective. Based on the response of 104 product innovation recipient firms, the findings show that collaboration positively affects firms market performance and innovation survival. In addition, transactional capacity gives medium effect to collaboration, leading to better firms innovation survival. This study contributes to the literature by exploring how close collaboration between firm and innovator initiates to enhance the firms market performance and innovation survival. It also increases our understanding of how TC relate to collaboration and market performance and innovation survival.

Abstract

The main aim of this study is to develop a process model for decision making in the planning phase of housing development in Malaysia. This paper identifies the decision making practiced among Malaysian housing developers at planning phase and examines the three main parts in making decisions which are methods, tools, and information. The paper then investigates whether the three main parts (methods, tools, and information) are strongly related to the decision making process. This paper involves the development of a theoretical model by integrates the models developed by numerous authors and researchers on the subject of decision making. The descriptive statistical technique is conducted and the regression analysis is organize using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with AMOS to see the relationship between the three main parts (methods, tools, and information) in making the decision. Thus, this paper is beneficial as a guide for housing developers and governments in making a decision at planning phase for housing development.

Abstract

Incomplete communication between decision maker, proposer, and secretariat happened due to time constraint and distance's factor among them in the decision-making process for housing development project. Consequently, the convenience of information becomes limited due to the restricted amount of data given by the developer. The problem is to make the best decision in construction; it must come from various information sources and specialists, especially in housing where the sector is near to the public (social) objective. Due to these decision-making problems, the developer faces a late delivery and sick housing project conflict. This paper aims to identify the technical decision making information for housing development at the initiation phase in Malaysia. Delphi method is employed by using questionnaire survey which involved 50 private developers for the first round of data collection. However, only 34 developers contributed to the second round of the data collection process. At the last round, only 12 developers were finalized as the main contributor in the final process. As a result, the findings are work schedule, location and size of project are most necessary information in technical information part which are required for decision making for housing development among Malaysian developers. Moreover, the advancement of skill must be improved and developers should not be easily pleased with their achievement as the information technology advances at a pace we can hardly keep up with.
