Abstract

In establishing a successful Halal supply chain, Syariah compliancy has emerged as a key issue. Halal transport and Halal warehouse play a significant role in maintaining the integrity of the Halal products from point of origin to end of consumption. The escalating demand for halal food has encouraged warehouse operators to devise a new business plan to cater to the present business trend. Warehousing or storage is a critical factor where cross-contamination may occur. As such, this study explored the Halal warehouse compliance from the perspective of regulators. This study adopted the qualitative approach by carrying out interview sessions, document review, and observation as the primary methods for data collection. The outcomes pointed out eight main factors that ascertain Halal warehouse compliance from the perspective of regulator, which are: management member, comprehensive training, Halal standard adoption, supplier, standard operating procedure (SOP), internal halal committee, documentation, and knowledge. This study appears to be a pioneer that probes into Halal warehouse compliance in Malaysia.

Abstract

Abstract The aims of this paper is to investigate supplier management in Halal food supply chain in according with an existing framework of supplier management and to explore how the size of enterprises influences supplier management in Halal food supply chain. In this study, the researcher adopted case study research method and collected the data from one small and medium-sized enterprise and one multinational enterprise producing Halal foods in Malaysia with Malaysia Halal certification. The findings showed specific risk consequences, supply risk sources, risk drivers and risk mitigating strategies in Halal food supply chain based on the framework of supplier management. By comparing the constructs of the framework, differences in the cases emerged: the type of risk mitigating strategies and the range of monitoring. Therefore, it is assumed that bargaining power and resources based on the size of enterprises influenced the type of risk mitigating strategies and the range of monitoring in Halal food supply chain. For future research, the researcher needs to take not only the size of enterprises but also other contextual factors into consideration for a wholesome approach in understanding each firms characteristics and how the supply chain system is affected.

Abstract

House of risk framework had been applied widely for identify root cause of problem in supply chain. However, house of risk framework usage to mitigate problem in spare part stocks are still limited. In this paper we employ house of risk Framework to identify root cause of problem in spare parts stock (dead stock). The result of this research could be used as comparison of house of risk framework in spare parts stocks. With a eminent confidence, house of risk framework suggest several factor that contribute to dead stock namely: spare part user, time limit in inventory, mismatch inventory data. House of risk also suggest corrective action needed to resolve this problem, such as promoting regulation conformity for spare part usage and inventory, and assign budget for each stock users to track and control spare part consumption for each users.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the determinants of capital structure for Malaysian manufacturing companies. The studied subjects were 174 Malaysia manufacturing companies listed on Bursa Malaysia from year 2011 to year 2014. Firm fixed-effect with robust standard was used in data analysis to address the potential heterogeneity and endogeneity that arise from panel data. The analysis shows that firm profitability and non-debt tax shield are negatively related to firm leverage. On the other hand, several corporate governance mechanisms, namely, ownership concentration, separation of CEO-chairs, board independence, are not related to firm leverage. Liquidity, firm size and asset structure are also not related to firm leverage of manufacturing firms.

Abstract

This paper aims to identify the effects of digital economy on students entrepreneurial traits and entrepreneurship as career choices, comparatively between Malaysia and Indonesia. A sample of students was randomly selected from public universities and private universities in each country. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), which is the foundation of structural equation modeling (SEM), has been used. The results evidenced that the digital economy in both countries significantly influencing the entrepreneurial characteristics of the students. However, in Indonesia, the results are significant for all four dimensions of digital economy, while in Malaysia, only two dimensions are found to be significant namely social and cultural environment and the consumer and business adoption. Not only that, despite the entrepreneurial traits the students in Malaysia possessed, in contrast with Indonesian university students, it is discovered that they are reluctant to become entrepreneurs in future. Hence, both Malaysian and Indonesian governments need to keep on supporting the development of digital economy to foster the entrepreneurial traits among students. Plus, the lessons on entrepreneurship can be introduced as important subjects in universities in both countries, especially in Malaysia, to boost students entrepreneurial interest.

Abstract

Due to the environmental impacts and economic benefits, establishment of business strategies for sustainable development is getting increasing attention both in industry as well as in academia. In order to improve the coporate social responsibility (CSR), we develop an Extend Producer Responsibility (EPR) model which refers to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) takeback in a closed-loop supply chain system under incentive-dependent demand and return. The performance analysis of the system dynamics simulation model will indicate that the inclusion of incentive offer enhances the demand, collection and remanufacturing process. A numerical example and sensitivity analysis on the optimal results are presented to validate the proposed model.

Whereas, supply chain management approaches have determined the performance in various industries and in various regions. The aim of this study to explore the potential benefits of supply chain management approaches toward attaining supply chain performance. This is an empirical investigation conducting among members of oil and gas supply chain in Iraq. Data were collected from 260 members of thesupply chain that include drilling, processing, distribution areas of Iraq. Factor analysis and multiple regressions through SPSS have been used for data analysis. The finding of this study reveals that all three supply chain management approaches information sharing (IS), joint decision making (JDM) and risk and reward sharing (RRS) positively and significantly affect the supply chain performance.

Abstract

Nowadays, the business environment has provided causes of emerging a high level of uncertainty and turbulent behavior in supply chains. In most cases, suppliers are considered as the main sources of external risks which provide causes of emerging wide levels of disruptions in supply chains; therefore, choosing the appropriate and also resilient suppliers can greatly reduce purchasing costs and delay times and also increase the ability to maintain business in the case of disruption, competitiveness of the company and satisfaction of customers. This study is aimed to identify and investigate the attributes for evaluating the suppliers resilience from the two aspects, the importance and effectiveness of choosing the resilient suppliers in Iran electronic industries. In this regard, screening, dematel, analytic network process and goal programming have been used that they were performed in the fuzzy environment due to the uncertainty of the nature of all researches. Results showed that some attributes including, human resource management, visibility, and financial strength are the most influential factors. In terms of importance, agility, adaptability, and vulnerability are also the most important factors. At the end, while presenting a case study of the industry and applying goal programming, the ability of the proposed combined model in solving the real-world problems is shown.
