Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) by using factor analysis (exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis). Using a survey questionnaire, data were collected 230 respondents from private hospitals in Malaysia. The findings found that the factor analysis for SSCM model was fit and acceptable with four dimensions (environment, information and communications technology, culture change, and risk management). Regarding this, SSCM model provides a useful guide for Malaysian private hospitals to implement supply chain in terms of SSCM dimensions. Thus, SSCM practices implementation can improve the supply chain and performance in Malaysian private hospitals.

Abstract

This paper explores the green supply chain management practices adoption among Malaysian ISO 14001 certified manufacturing companies. The green practices that are measured in this research are eco-design, green purchasing and reverse logistics. This study used survey to collect responses from 616 manufacturing companies, with a response rate of 24.68%. The findings provided evidence that the level of green supply chain management practices has been implemented to a greater extent among responding firms. Specifically, the results have empirically proven that eco-design was the most highly adopted green practices among these manufacturing firms. In view of these findings, green supply chain management practices that involve external relationship with suppliers and customers (green purchasing and reverse logistics) have comparatively lower adoption than internally-focused green supply chain management practices (eco-design), which involves fewer external relationships. This paper provides the possible reasons for eco-design being the most adopted green practise among Malaysian ISO 14001 certified manufacturing companies and provides suggestions for firms in view of enhancing their sustainable performance through promoting eco-design in their green practices.

Abstract

Abstract— In theory, the integration of Kano Model and SERVQUAL into Quality Function Deployment is to remove the assumption of linear and to offer innovative input. Kano Model characterizes attributes for product or services based on the level of customer satisfaction towards the attributes. Indirectly it can facilitate SEVQUAL to determine level of priority to the improvement process required by the organisation based on certain categories requested, in which this is going towards into the improvement of customer satisfaction. Kano Model also enables SERVQUAL to focus on interesting attributes and it is popular in the service innovation process. According to the theory, the process of the integration of Kano Model and SERVQUAL into QFD will allow us to construct a model of service quality for the tourism sector which can satisfy customer’s needs and wants. This will grant a high level of customer satisfaction. This study can determine attributes according to the categories of basic needs, performance needs and excellence needs. By doing so, we eventually will be able to determine basic elements, performance elements and the excellent elements for the service quality for the tourism sector. These dimensions can be a reference to organisations when they plan their activities for their activities related to the service quality in the future. Keywords— Kano Model, SERVQUAL, Quality Function Deployment, Tourism Sector.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to examine the factors that influence the implementation of Industry 4.0 among Malaysian and Nigerian Small and Medium Enterprises. The Questionnaires were distributed to SMEs operators in both countries while analysis was done with 74 and 95 responses from Malaysia and Nigeria respectively using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM 3). Based on the findings from Malaysian data, information access, cost reduction, and efforts coordination significantly and positively influence the implementation of IR 4.0 while reluctance behaviour is not significant. For Nigerian data, information access, reluctance behaviour and effort coordination significantly and positively influence implementation of Industry 4.0 while effort coordination is not significant. The implications for both academia, practitioners, and policy makers are highlighted.

Abstract

The effectiveness of corporate governance provides a promising value creation to firm even during implementation of new policy for example during Goods & Services Tax (GST) implementation in year 2015. By embracing agency theory, this paper investigates five corporate governance variables relationship with operating performance (sales growth and current ratio) during and after GST implementation. This study examines 265 Malaysian listed firms for year 2015 (during) and 2016 (after) GST implementation period. The OLS regression results report that there is significant relationship of corporate governance in firm operating performance particularly during and after GST implementation. Board independent, CEO age and family CEO have positively contribute to sales growth during and after GST implementation. For working capital effectiveness during and after GST implementation, the CEO age and family CEO delineate significant positive association with operating performance (current ratio). This displays on the governance effectives in discharging their roles to strengthen operating performance particularly during a new financial or tax policy implementation that requires necessary changes in business processes. It uncovers the transparency of Malaysian corporate governance commitment and acceptance to GST for firm and country sustainable development. In sum, an effective governance system that supports the firm operating performance makes GST as a business friendly tax system.

Abstract

Industrialised Building System (IBS) was first implemented in Malaysia during the year 1960s and since then it has shed light on the many advantages this system has to offer such as having a systematic and efficient deliverable of fabricated factory-made products, reduced construction period, improved safety on site and many more. Nevertheless, despite the benefits, the level of uptake till today is still way lower than expectation and one of the main contributors to this dilemma is the payment issues that surround projects that uses IBS system. Due to the different nature of work between IBS and conventional in-situ construction, there is a need for proper handling of payment mechanisms so as to not cause burden to any party which would contribute to poor IBS adoption rate. This paper therefore explores the risks associated with IBS uptake, the payment issues surrounding its projects in Malaysia, the way forward and to propose other payment method that suits Malaysia. Besides performing extensive literature reviews, expert opinion was also obtained by interviewing four (4) Malaysian construction industry practitioners from different supply chains of an IBS project with each of them possessing a minimum of 25 years of working experience. Their vast experience was important in getting an insight on the real-world scenario of the subject matter. In the end, it was found that IBS adoption in Malaysia is generally still at far from convincing and poor payment mechanism was a major contributor to this scenario thus, to improve the situation, initiatives should come not only from the government bodies but also from financial institutions; and attention should be placed from both technical and procurement aspects if any improvement on IBS uptake are to be expected.

Abstract

The last few years have seen an exponential increase in the significance of the environmental agenda at the global level. Despite decades of research, the motivations that drive managers to engage in sustainable green practices remained uncertain. This study examines the degree to which value-belief-norm framework in explaining engagement in sustainable green practices. The data for this study was collected from 260 manufacturing SMEs and was analyzed by employing Structural Equation Modelling. The results indicated that environmental beliefs have a significant positive effect on SME's sustainable green practices, but these effects have not been demonstrated by environmental norms and environmental values. In view of these results, the findings have both policy and education implications as it is believed that a behaviour which encourages manufacturing SMEs to adopt green practices with respect to environmental concerns.

Abstract

Oversupply and overhang among the high-cost housing type has become a blazing field that is often discussed in the press due to the failure in getting a balance of construction demand and supply unit. The basic purpose of the research is to develop a prediction modelling for high-cost housing supply based on the macroeconomic factors. The investigation involved the improvement of the analytical framework by synthesizing the models and framework advanced by a past analyst on the housing supply market framework. As initial, macroeconomic data of MHPI, GDP, BLR, CPI, population size, PCI, CBI, housing demand rate and housing stock index from 2007 to 2017 are collected from National Property and Information Centre (NAPIC) and Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) website. The prediction of the housing supply is investigated using Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA). Based on these problem, the investigation contended that the housing supply prediction model will be accomplish using experimental data from economic data with supported from macroeconomic factors such as world borrowing cost, outflows of foreign capital, subprime crisis, population characteristics, migration, urbanization, stamp duty exemption, moratorium, RPGT, and also microeconomic factors such as location and accessibility, basic and public facility, financial loan, location and placement, credit facility, construction cost, development approval, price and rental and housing stock.
